UPDATED: Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that ex-Smallville‘s evildoer Sam Witwer (a.k.a. Read the full post.

Not only is Sam Witwer totally wrong for the part of Mitchell, but Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath are all wrong as well!!! The success of the British show is the likability of the three main characters. Not only is Mitchell a truly good person but he is adorably handsome. He is just beautiful! It is a delight to watch him act. Then there is George. His boyishly innocence is absolutely precious! And beautiful Annie is so motherly and endearingly sweet, but more importantly, these three lost souls truly love and need each other in a raw, nonsexual refreshingly honest way. These vital qualities will never work with the three American actors that have been chosen!!!! What are you thinking??????????????????

Horrible casting. Witwer is an OK actor, but definitely does not have the chops to tackle the “Mitchell” character. The other two are just zeros. And it’s obvious the US version will never be as dark and thoughtful as the UK version – it will be dumbed down and cleaned up for squeamish Americans. The beauty of the UK show was in the moral ambiguity of their situations (two supernatural killers and a ghost who flits in and out of human sight) and the desperate loyalty and love the three main characters had for each other. An American version will just make it about romantic relationships and sex. Boring. Stick with the great UK version!

In the article, did they mean “vampire Mitchell?” because I’m quite sure Aidan was the actor’s name. Regardless, I loved Being Human, but I’m not so psyched about the US version. I’ll give it a try, and whether I stick with it will depend on the final product, I suppose. Definitely doing it for Crashdown, but hoping the American networks will spit up something new soon!

Bad casting on all counts! I will continue to watch the British version of Being Human. Like the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

  • mandy

Why not just air the UK Being Human episodes and stop remaking stuff???

  • Abbey

The British version is wonderful; I do not see why we cannot simply leave it be. Why do we have to have a U.S. version when there’s a perfectly good British version showing on BBCAmerica?

  • Trynn

Can’t wait to see Sam Witwer as a vampire. He’s gorgeous, he’s a great actor, & what a body! He was so chilling as Marrow in Dark Angel, & now he gets to play a real vampire!

I’m totally down for Mark Pellegrino as the vampire mentor; He’s brilliant, and I think he and Witwer will work nicely together.
I’m a touch iffy on Witwer playing Aidan, but I think it will be a pleasant surprise when he does well.
As for Rath & Huntington, I’ve no expectations, so I’m curious to see how they do.
I have faith in SyFy taking this project on, and I’m glad that previous “Supernatural” writer Jeremy Carver is helping pen the script.
But it really does bother me that someone had the brilliant idea to rename each of the characters.
Mitchell, George, Herrick, & Annie become Aidan, Josh, Bishop & Molly?
    An unnecessary change, I feel.
    But otherwise, I’m pretty stoked.
    This should be interesting.

  • A7X_Chick

    Oh.
    Yeah.
    MARK PELLEGRINOOOOOOOOO.

    Dude’s amazing.

  • deb

Once again, good old SyFy is going to take a really good BBC show and American-ize it, make it unrecognizable to it’s predecessor and ruin it!!!! *btw..the original Being Human is very good, doesn’t need improved upon!*

Whenever I tell people what Being Human is about, they pretty much laugh in my face. I mean really. A drama show about a werewolf, vampire and ghost living together? It’s sounds a little more than a bit hammy. The reason why the show works is the writing, the acting and the chemistry between the characters. Take those things away, which you are essentially doing when you remake the show with new actors and writers, and all you have is a concept that cannot survive on concept alone. I’m not saying that these actors aren’t good. I’m just saying that with something like Being Human, there’s a sort of magic that just /works/ with the original cast (though technically I guess they’re the second cast?).

I’m pretty convinced it will fail and be forgotten, as many remakes of the like have done, but what I fear most is success. I don’t care that no one over here knows about the show but if they only knew about the American version but still didn’t know anything about the original…that would just kill me.

what is it with american broadcasters??? must they always feel the need to make a brilliant show in to a piece of crap. I love being human just like i love life on mars but why remake it? being human is brilliant and i saw their comic con ages ago. there will only be one vampire and that will be Aidan Turner’s Mitchell.I mean come on series 3 is only a few months away for us in the uk with great actors such as lacey turner guest starring. Why cant they just leave brit shows alone?

  • megan130

The writer for this is from Supernatural and Sam Witwer can spin gold from crap. Just don’t know why it’s showing while the original is still on the air. But worldwide multiple ‘Offices’ are being produced in different countries/regions.

I loved Being Human from BBC. It was awesome. The second Mitchell and the second Annie were the best. I also don’t know how anyone can compare to the actor that plays George. He’s amazing. He plays the duality of the wolf spectacularly…like George is the anti-wolf…lol. I hope that the US version doesn’t carbon copy it or screw it up. I’ll watch both and hopefully enjoy them equally.

  • Spooky

I have to agree. It’s kind of well… stupid to me that people are already being super critical. I have seen the first 8 episodes and I am captivated. I anxiously await every episode AND I am watching the original. They are BOTH really good.
