'Vampire Diaries' exclusive: Did David Anders survive?

anders-vampire-diariesImage Credit: Bob Mahoney/The CWThough in last month’s Vampire Diaries cliffhanger Elena’s doppelganger brutally attacked John, his portrayer, David Anders, confirms that he’ll be back for the season premiere. And beyond that?

“That’s up in the air right now,” he says. “They haven’t picked up [my] option yet. I feel like the character has a lot of legs and you can go in many different directions with him. But ultimately it’s [executive producer] Kevin Williamson’s choice.”

Although on paper the odds of John surviving would appear slim — the dude got his fingers chopped off and took a blade to the gut — Anders reminds fans, “People don’t always die from knife wounds.”

As he awaits word on his VD prognosis, the Alias grad is currently shooting a guest appearance as a fugitive from the past on the second season of Syfy’s Warehouse 13 (premiering July 6; Anders’ ep airs Sept. 7). “There’s time travel involved,” he explains. “I run a magazine back in the ’60s. It’s shrouded in secrecy, so that’s about all I can tell you.”

Boo! Keep him away! I haven’t seen the finale yet, but he doesn’t really add anything interesting to the mix. He may be Elena’s real dad, but he’ll never be her father. I wish Alaric was her real father. LOL – he’s way more interesting!

scratch that, he’s Elena’s real father, but he’ll never be her dad lol

This doesn’t surprise me. Stabbing someone in the gut is a grossly inefficient way of killing someone, especially for a vampire like Katherine. Why not snap his neck? Or suck him dry? But she stabbed him. So she must have another agenda that we don’t know about. My bet is Uncle John survives his knife wound and makes nice with the Salvatores to stop whatever shanagans Katherine is up too. :)

perhaps that is the unlikely alliance alluded to in the season 2 blurb on the cw website.

I feel like there’s a lot more story to tell with his character — I want to know more about Elena’s origin story, and I don’t trust her mother to give us the facts.

I love David Anders so it would be great if he survives the attack. I also would like to see the relationship or lack of between John and Elena explored more and that would be difficult if he was six feet under.

    • Miss Talk

I HATE Uncle John but his character brought a lot of tv-worthy drama. So I guess, if he can be back, it’s all good for TVD.

David Anders is one of my all time favorite actors due to his portrayal of Sark on Alias. I don’t care what the have to do to keep him on the show, just do it! Any show is better for having him on it!
