'Scoundrels' and 'The Gates' quietly debut on ABC

Categories: Television, TV Ratings

scoundrelsImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCThe series premiere of Scoundrels and The Gates gave ABC some bragging points for an otherwise ho-hum night of TV on Sunday: The Gates, which averaged 4.64 million viewers at 10 p.m., represented ABC’s strongest summer scripted series debut in five years. It won its time slot at 10 p.m. in the adult demographic and came in second in viewers behind CBS’ repeat of Cold Case.

Scoundrels averaged 5.17 million viewers at 9 p.m. and won its second half-hour in viewers. The two dramas also gave ABC a boost over last year in viewers and adults 18-49.

Despite airing against mostly reruns on CBS and Fox, ABC still finished in third place for the night among total viewers (4.80 million). NBC – which aired the final round of the U.S. Open – averaged 7.31 million, while CBS was in second with 5.45 million. Fox, which aired mostly repeats of its animated shows except for the barely-watched series finale of ‘Til Death (1.52 million), finished in fourth place with 2.98 million viewers. Fox also aired an original episode of the canceled comedy Sons of Tucson, which mustered up 1.39 million viewers.

'Grey's' doc Chandra Wilson reflects on harrowing finale and her most feared plot (hint: R.I.P. Bailey)

greys-anatomy-wilson_320.jpg Image Credit: Danny Feld/ABC Today’s deadline day for Emmy voters to turn in their ballots, and based on her gut-wrenching performance in last month’s Grey’s Anatomy finale, I’m guessing Chandra Wilson’s name will be checked off a lot in the supporting actress race. As Bailey helplessly looked on as fellow doc Percy’s life slipped away, her breakdown was as shocking as it was haunting. In this exclusive interview, the four-time Emmy nominee reflects on what it was like shooting the nerve-wracking episode, speculates on the fallout for her character, and opens up about the one Grey’s storyline she hopes never happens. Exclusive First Look: 'Mad Men' season 4 poster!

Categories: First Look, Mad Men, Scoop

mad-men-season-4_510.jpg The message being conveyed by Mad Men‘s season 4 key art is clear: Don Draper is starting over.

Of course, nice as the exclusive first look above is, we didn’t really need a poster to tell us that. Last season ended with the ad man experiencing a major tectonic shift in both his personal and professional lives. Not only did he bolt Sterling Cooper to form his own upstart, he agreed to give Betty a divorce.

As exec producer Matthew Weiner recently told Entertainment Weekly, the new season — beginning July 25 — will find Don & Co. contemplating, “Who am I?” READ FULL STORY »

'Parks and Recreation' set-visit scoop: sex, drugs, threesomes, and more!

And they say nothing ever happens in Pawnee. During a recent visit to the Indiana burb at the center of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, I heard tales of vehicular sexcapades, on-camera three-ways, rampant drug use, and out-of-control egos. On a far less scandalous note, Amy Poehler and her castmates also reacted to NBC’s unpopular decision to bench the show until early 2011, previewed the first six episodes of the upcoming third season, and handicapped their Emmy chances. All told, it was a busy afternoon — so busy that the following episode of Ausiello TV is brought to you in three parts, each more compelling than the last. No, really. READ FULL STORY »
