vanessa-marcilImage Credit: Bryan SheffieldABC announced today that Vanessa Marcil will reprise her role as Brenda Barrett on General Hospital beginning Aug. 11. Having first joined the soap in 1992, Marcil earned an Emmy for playing Brenda in 2003 — the year she left the show to co-star in the primetime series Las Vegas. She will rejoin GH as a series regular. “I feel so lucky to continue to be allowed to visit General Hospital and honor where I came from,” says Marcil in a statement. “I am humbled by these great people and a character that I truly love.”

Brenda return to Port Charles when the three men in her life – Sonny, Jax, and Jason – are in crisis. She also has what ABC describes as an “explosive” secret.

MTV Movie Awards: Ken Jeong on his emotional win

ken-jeongImage Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage.comPeople aren’t expected to get emotional at the MTV Movie Awards (unless, of course, you’re the poor censor who has to bleep out all the F-bombs) but The Hangover’s Ken Jeong got unexpectedly teary-eyed last night when accepting the prize for Best WTF Moment. Shortly after dancing on stage in a (very revealing) leotard with his Hangover co-star Ed Helms on the piano, Jeong got serious when talking about his cancer-free wife Tran — who encouraged him to take the side-splitting gig in the movie directed by Todd Phillips.

“She is the brave one, my best friend, my inspiration,” Jeong told reporters afterwards. “I’m just really grateful. Todd Phillips is a great friend, and [co-star] Bradley Cooper is a really good friend. In all seriousness, they got me through a really tough time and I don’t think everyone knows what great guys Todd and Bradley were. They’re great. She’s cancer free for two years now. This whole night is actually celebrating her.”

Clearly uncomfortable with the heavy subject matter, Jeong then switched the topic to something much lighter. (This is, after all, the guy who accepted the award on behalf of himself and his “penis.”) “Actually, why I am crying right now is that I gave Bradley neck herpes,” he told reporters. “I don’t care about him. I have a career, dammit. He can take Valtrex. I used to be a doctor. I can prescribe it.” When asked why he accepted the role that required him to run around naked in the desert, Jeong said, “I had conversations with Todd Phillips and I said, ‘If I show my taint maybe I’ll be talking to you on June 6, 2010′ …  I can’t think of anything I won’t do right now.  Sure, I’ll whip it out, no problem.”

'Terra Nova' drama at Fox in talks with Jason O'Mara

Categories: Casting, Deals, Sci-Fi, Theater, TV Biz

Jason-O-Mara_240.jpg Image Credit: Glenn Harris/PR Photos The hot star of the lukewarm drama Life on Mars may find a new dimension to explore for Fox next season. A key insider confirmed that Jason O’Mara, the Irish actor who headlined the short-lived, time-traveling series for ABC last year, is in negotiations to star in Terra Nova for Fox’s mid-year lineup. As first reported by Deadline.com, O’Mara would play the father of a young family from 100 years in the future that travels back to the prehistoric era.

Though the series certainly pays well and hails from some of Hollywood’s most powerful players  - Steven Spielberg, ex-Fox Chairman Peter Chernin and scribe Brannon Braga (24) are among the drama’s executive producers – the offer comes with a catch: O’Mara (who’s married to actress Paige Turco) would have to move to Australia where the series is expected to begin filming this summer. Should O’Mara pass on the big-budget project that’s already received a thumbs down from Kyle Chandler,  the producers could be compelled to consider a more viable (if not less costly) alternative – attracting relative unknowns to the drama that’s received a 13-episode pickup from Fox. After all, the series already touts one of the biggest names in Hollywood – Spielberg – so a marquee actor may not be needed to sell the project to viewers worldwide.

The drama, which is also executive produced by agent-turned-producer Aaron Kaplan, Craig Silverstein (Bones) and Kelly Marcel, among others, takes place in 2149 A.D. when a large group of settlers are preparing to leave the apocalyptic world in which they live to time travel back millions of years. Their goal is to see trees, enjoy a blue sky, eat real food – basically, to start over in this so-called Eden.

'Big Brother: After Dark' will return to Sho 2

big-brother-11Image Credit: John P. Filo/CBSKeep your late nights wide open this summer, Big Brother fans: After Dark will be back! Showtime has confirmed that it will continue airing live, nightly feeds from the Big Brother house beginning July 8 at 12 a.m EST. This marks the fifth summer that CBS’ sister cable network has run the uncensored and uncut feeds, which have been a ratings success: After Dark has almost quadrupled the average numbers of viewers that Sho 2 typically attracts to the time period, when it usually airs movies (some of which are of the “adult” persuasion).

CBS has already announced that the 12th edition of Big Brother will begin July 8 and air three nights a week on Wednesdays (8-9 p.m. ET/PT), Thursdays (eviction show from 8-9 p.m.) and Sundays (8-9 p.m). The network used to air BB on Tuesdays but the network wanted to keep its winning line-up of dramas on that night intact for the summer.

The new cast for the reality show, which follows a group of people living in a house outfitted with dozens of cameras and microphones, will be announced at a later date. Big Brother is hosted by Julie Chen and executive produced by Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan in association with Endemol U.S.A.

Katherine Heigl submits herself as supporting actor in Emmy race

katherine-heiglImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosThough she sat out more than half of the season of Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl has submitted herself in the supporting actress category for this year’s Emmy race, her representative confirms. There is no set amount of episodes that an actor must appear in to be eligible for either the supporting or lead actor categories.

Heigl only appeared in a handful of episodes this year before her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, was last seen around Seattle Grace in January. Heigl was due back on the set of the ABC drama March 1 but she never showed up. Heigl told EW that “rumors that I refused to return were totally untrue.” ABC Studios said it was mutually agreed upon that Heigl would end her run this season.

Nominations for the 62nd Primetime Emmys will be announced July 8. As for the rest of the Grey’s stars, Ellen Pompeo submitted herself as lead actress, while the other ensemble members — including Patrick Dempsey — will duke it out in the supporting categories. To vie for the best drama prize, Grey’s submitted the two-hour finale, as well as the episodes “The Time Warp,” “Suicide is Painless,” “I Saw What I Saw,” and “Give Peace a Chance” for consideration.

NBC will air the Emmys on Aug. 29.

CBS eyes new comedy 'Mad Love' for midseason

Minka-Kelly_240.jpg Image Credit: Ernesto Revira/Retna Ltd. UPDATE: Sarah Chalke is reportedly in talks to replace Minka Kelly in the comedy. The news was first reported by Deadline.com.

CBS is close to rounding out its comedy lineup for the 2010-11 season by offering a 13-episode commitment to the multi-camera comedy Mad Love from Matt Tarses (Worst Week) and Sony Pictures TV, EW has learned.  The show, which is also executive produced by former ABC entertainment president Jamie Tarses, is about four friends in New York – two of whom fall for one another. The pilot stars Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) and Jason Biggs (American Pie) and will likely bow midseason.

The network already ordered two sitcoms for fall: Mike and Molly, a relationship comedy from Chuck Lorre (Two and A Half Men) that will air Mondays at 9:30 p.m., and Sh*! My Dad Says, a laugher from David Kohan and Max Mutchnick (Will & Grace) that will air Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.
