Exclusive: 'iCarly' casts 'Glee' meanie Jane Lynch as Sam's MIA mom

The Glee villainess has been cast as the much-mentioned-but-never-before-seen mom of Jennette McCurdy’s Sam, sources confirm to me exclusively. Her episode, which goes before the cameras next week, will air during the Nickelodeon hit’s upcoming third season.

It won’t just be Gleeks stoked about this casting coup, either. The actress’ own 8-year-old stepdaughter is a huge iCarly fan — so huge that Mom even included a reference to it in her wedding vows!

What do you think? Are you already an iCarly devotee? If not, will Lynch’s pop-in be enough to entice you to try it out? Sound off below!

Oh, that’ll be hysterical! McCurdy and Lynch really do look alike. Sam’s mom is always described as a sort of boorish slob, so it’ll be fun to see how she plays that.

I’m way too old to like iCarly, but I still do. So excited!!!

    • Nikki

I with you on the age, but stil this rocks!

      • Steve

Given how old I am, I shouldn’t be watching iCarly. Yet, because of all the airings I’ve seen when we put Nick on for the kiddies at work (as well as when my girlfriend’s niece is at her place), it’s grown on me. Jane Lynch is a great fit as Sam’s mom!

Though I may be a little on the old side to watch this show, I cannot get enough. It is well written and everyone on screen is so comfortable with each other, which makes it great! I also LOVE Glee, so casting Jane Lynch for this isn’t just fantastic, it’s perfectly right.

I’m 43, no small children and tune in every Friday night for iCarly, Big Time Rush, and True Jackson V.P. .. Now if they would only cancel Victorious, it would be a glorious night! iCarly rocks and I hope they address some of the stories Sam is constantly telling about her mom

      • Sami

Mean-o >.< ya know, Victorious is made by the same person who made iCarly, ya know. Hmmph.

I know, it’s almost sad but I’m such a sucker for kids tv shows. Avatar: Last Airbender was a serious addiction. But she’s perfect for the role–I love Sam and Jane Lynch will bring just enough sass to make her horrible but not unlikeable! Can’t wait!

      • Jay

Victorious is WAY better than True Jackson or Big Time Rush. It’s not as great as iCarly yet but it’s growing.

      • Faye

Well, I use that 30 minutes for other things … but it’s all a matter of taste. What do I know, I watch Hanna Montana. SWEET NIBLETS

      • Melinda65

Out of those four, Big Time Rush is the only one that I find unbearable. Heck, even my husband watches iCarly whether our daughter is in the room or not. :-) We’re in our 40s, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate good comedy, no matter what age group it’s actually geared for.

I can blame my love of iCarly on my kids making me watch it all the time, but I would be lying! When they want to turn it I tell them NO! I am proud to say that I am in my 40′s!! Some are annoying, but others are pure magic.
I love all the cast, but Spencer is so wonderfully RANDOM and Sam and then Gibby are my favorites! Jane Lynch will be great!!! Can’t wait to see it!

    • Nicotine

I’m way far past iCarly’s demographic age and I’m male, but I still love the show! Sam is my favorite character and Sue Sylvester as her mom will be awesome.

Guilty Pleasure Alert: You’re never too old to enjoy good, old-fashioned fun. Seriously, my sister and I are two professional twenty-somethings, and we are sooooo in love with this show! Every character is perfectly defined (esp. Sam and Spencer!). No matter what else is on TV, if we see iCarly is on, it totally takes over our TV. Nothing else on TV matters for that 30 minute block.

  • slicknickshady

Yes! She is perfect for the role! I never thought i would ever get to do this in an Ausiello post but!!!!!

    SEDDIE FOREVER! ;)

    • Corrine

LMAO! Love the Seddie reference! I, too, am probably too old to be watching, but I am OBSESSED with iCarly. I was jumping up and down when I read Dan Schneider’s tweet about this.

  • Kayla

iLOVE iCarly and Jennette McCurdy. iCan’t wait to see this episode!!
