I have to disagree with your predictions and snubs. Parenthood is an alright show, no one from that show deserved a nomination over the actual nominees.
Chandler has no chance at winning, his award is the nomination. Cranston and Hall are the real frontrunners, I think it’s curious you didn’t include Michael C. Hall in your predictions given the fact he just won both the Globe and the SAG, that makes him the frontrunner.
And never count out the Lost folks in the Supporting Actor category, though I do agree Paul is likely to win.
I wished you considered actual buzz and award history (Globes, SAGs) for this predictions rather than picking your favorites.
I disagree. Anyone who doesn’t think Fox has a serious chance in a popular series from an overlooked genre’s last season is seriously underestimating the Emmys desire to appeal to something resembling a demographic. These aren’t the Independent Spirit Awards for t.v., they care what people think.
I agree. With everything except thinking Chandler has no shot. His performance is consistently excellent, particularly in Season 4.
Agree with the picks. While I am a huge lost fan, and would love to see Terry O’Quinn win, Breaking Bad is awesome and Aaron Paul DESERVES IT!!!!
I feel like Matthew Fox could be a dark horse. After all, if Kyle Chandler has 3 years of snubs working for him, one could argue that Matthew Fox has 5 years of snubs. That, plus any votes that go for ‘Lost’ because of its final season, could make him a dark horse candidate.
I’m hoping for wins for Michael C. Hall and Terry O’Quinn
I think if you are going to identify a snub, you have to also identify the nominee you would replace. It’s easy to name people who did terrific work – but whom would you cut to make room?
I have to go with Matthew Fox FTW on this one..I watch all the shows except Mad Men (it bored me to tears) and Matthew just ruled this season of Lost. As for supporting, it’s a tie between Terry O’Quinn and Aaron Paul. Both great actors.
I think the Best Actor race will come down to either Bryan Cranston or Michael C. Hall.
While all the actors in this field are excellent, I agree Cranston and Hall are the true front runners. Cranston is brilliant, but I hope the mesmerizing Hall finally wins for Dexter. He is far overdue, and season 4 was top notch television.
Hugh Laurie or Matthew Fox in Lead Actor and Terry O’Quinn or Michael Emmerson for Supporting Actor.
If you’re asking me why Laurie, rewatched HOUSE season 6 premiere.
Matthew Fox deserved the Emmy for his outstanding work throughout the 6 amazing season of LOST. And if you’re still asking why, watch the last 20 minutes of the EPIC series finale, The End.
O’Quinn and Emmerson… They’re both playing such complex characters (in O’Quinn’s case we could say two very complex characters).
Matthew Fox deserves to win. Afterall, he is “The Candidate”
Honestly, I am surprised at how easily everyone is making these decisions. I watch every one of these shows except for Damages, and I honestly believe I have no idea who should and who is going to win. I could make a good case for almost ANY of them- best actor? For Coach Taylor to get his due finally! For Matt Fox to get HIS due finally! House to get HIS due finally! Cranston is STILL unbelievably talented and there is a REASON he keeps winning!
Supporting: Paul!!!! Either Lostie!! Andre!!! (why are 3 of these guys even in the supporting category for one thing??!!) I mean, I just can’t pick one and I can’t begin to guess how the voters will.
They’re in the supporting category because they submitted theselves into it. It’s no fault of the Academy, for once.

Hugh Laurie is way, way overdue. He’s the Susan Lucci of the primetime Emmys. And I’m not saying that to be funny. It’s not funny; it’s ridiculous.
Has Hugh Laurie never won an Emmy? I could have sworn he did a few years ago. I vaguely remember learning he had a British accent during an awards show and I thought the Emmy’s was it.
Nope – he’s like the Buffalo Bills -> 0-4 ( or 5 )
He won a Golden Globe and a SAG, I believe. Never the Emmy.
Oh Mike…I love your optimism but it took 3 years for Emmy to even recognize that Kyle Chandler exist and the show itself still has too few viewers. I think in this case we just have to see the nomination itself as a victory (which it really is) and be satisfied. I see Cranston or Hall as the winners in the lead actor catagory. Dark Horse = Matthew Fox
I think Chandler is a longshot, not a frontrunner. His gift was the nomination. I think it’s between Cranston and Hall for the win although Hamm did really great work this year too. Laurie could sneak in there, but I don’t think there’s any way Fox wins.
3 years of snubs for Kyle Chandler? How about FIVE YEARS of snubs for Matthew Fox! He is retiring from TV; he is the most deserving and it’s his last chance. Cranston has two, and more chances; Chandler can get one next year; Laurie has one; and Hall has more chances as well. Fox not only did outstanding work this year, but every year. 6 long seasons. MATTHEW FOX IS MOST DESERVING
It doesn’t work that way.
You think so? No s**t. I was commenting on Ausiello saying Chandler deserves it due to 3 years of snubs, and if it should go to the most deserving it is Fox. I obviously know they don’t vote like that.
The lead actor category is a tough one. I really think it’ll be Michael C. Hall, but I kinda want John Hamm to win because I want to see Don Draper in a tux as much as possible that night. And Coach Taylor… I really want that show to get all the recognition it deserves. He’d be my personal pick. I adore Lost, but it kinda irks me that Matt Fox is in the lead category and Terry O’Quinn is not. I think everyone on that show should’ve done like Modern Family and all be in the supporting category.
Supporting Actor, I really hope is Terry O’Quinn or Michael Emerson. Emerson didn’t have a lot of quality material like he has in the past, but damn, that guy can act.
As far as I understand, Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly always submit to the lead actor category. I don’t know why Terry O’Quinn doesn’t because I think he clearly emerges as a lead but I can see why Michael Emerson is supporting.
Hmmm… that kinda reflects poorly on both of them in my eyes. Especially Evangeline (but that might be because I couldn’t stand Kate as a character.) It’s more an ensemble show than any others out there. Terry O’Quinn seems to understand that, but Fox and Lilly don’t.
I think everyone on that show is a supporting character.
If I’m Matthew Fox, knowing that Emerson and O’Quinn submit for supporting actor, I would for sure submit for lead actor. If you watched the finale, you know he IS the lead actor–not the best, or most important but the focus character. Well, I guess even in season 1 it was obvious that he was the focus.
Don’t know why it irks you. Matthew Fox is the lead on that show. This season, more than any other since the first, he was unquestionably the lead actor to the point people whined about the Jack Show again. Matthew Fox was the lead in the final season of Lost. You could have made an argument for Terry O’Quinn other seasons, and maybe even Josh Holloway last season during Dharma days, but not this season. Fox was the lead.
John’s absolutely right. Fox is, without a doubt, the lead. Any other season, I would’ve conceded that O’Quinn could definitely be considered lead, but this season was Fox’s. As for Evangeline…well, the show isn’t fond of female characters, so I’d say she’s the closest thing to a female lead there is.
