Will Piers Morgan be the next CNN host to help stars rehabilitate their images? Sources who spoke to the New York Times seem to indicate the British interviewer has a future on the news cabler. Word is the America’s Got Talent judge has begun serious talks to replace Larry King, who recently announced plans to retire this fall. An arrangement still needs to be ironed out between CNN and NBC, which has Morgan under contract to host the talent show through 2013.
One insider stresses that King is only in second position with CNN, meaning that a deal may still not happen. Still, the hire of Morgan could be a boon to CNN: The 45-year-old Brit has been hosting Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on the British network ITV for the last year. He previously edited The Daily Mirror.
Meanwhile, NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker was asked about the deal on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today and said the following, “Piers will continue on America’s Got Talent for the next three years. That I can tell you. Having said that, I can also tell you he has approached us about asking us to do another job as well and those conversations are continuing.”

am i the only one who is tired of the british
Hey-I am American-But the Brits are smart-witty-brash-honest and to the point-Something we Americans have lost somewhere along the line
Sure go ahead and hire Piers – if all CNN (celebrity narcissistic network) cares about now is have a platform and a comfortable place for the downward sprialing to come and vent – then everything will be rosy … in hell
Excellent-He is smart-witty, brash and funny-Perfect for the show—and I hope Bret Michaels replaces Simon on AI-If they replace Simon with Harry Connick Jr I will never watch it -he is pathetically BORING
Not so much for Piers, although I read someplace he’s good at this sort of thing. He’s not appealing to me. Big deal, huh?
I’d be more likely to tune in with Piers Morgan as the host than I ever would with Larry King.
I’m just glad it’s not Ryan Seacrest!!!!
