Exclusive: 'The Middle' stages an 'Everybody Loves Raymond' reunion!

heaton-robertsImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABC; Tina Gill/PR PhotosThe Sept. 22 season premiere of The Middle just might make you feel like you’re in the middle of a time warp: Patricia Heaton is going to be going at it again with her former Everybody Loves Raymond foil Doris Roberts, sources confirm to me exclusively.

In the episode, we’ll meet Brick’s new teacher, an intimidating force to be reckoned with, played by the 79-year-old Emmy winner. Not only that, but the character will have some, shall we say—stop me if this sounds familiar—”strong” opinions about Frankie’s (Heaton) parenting methods.

So what do you think? Psyched for another Marie/Debra dustup? Tell me all about it below.

    Awesome!! Can’t wait.

    • ythu

She would be great on True Blood as the evil Mom vampire.

  • Kyle

    Love it!! cant wait!!

  • Lucky

They had great chemistry. The Middle has casted some really good guest stars without going overboard. Brooke Shields and Betty White were both terrific last season. This show still has the potential to grow, and moves like this could help.

Doris Roberts was the only reason to watch ‘Raymond.’ She was hilarious.

    • TV Gord

Come on. That entire cast was stellar!

    • Chuck

you’re nuts…the entire cast of ELR was terrific…especially Patricia.

    • Dave

Have to admit, my favourite character was Robert, he was hilarious when doing brotherly oneupmanship with Raymond.

    • Marti W

Peter Boyle. I worshipped at the altar of Peter Boyle.

(but yes, loved Roberts, Heaton, all of ‘em)

  • KLT

I guess it’s another Emmy for Doris!

  • I HEART SUE HECK

I CANT WAIT FOR NEW EPISODES OF ALL THE ABC COMEDIES …. THE MIDDLE IS SUPER FUNNY ! DORIS ROBERTS WILL BE A GREAT GUEST STAR

  • Roger

‘The Middle’ is one of the most underrated shows out there. What I love about it is that there is no laugh track so you laugh where you think it’s funny. And the whole show is!! I loved Doris Roberts in ‘Raymond.’ I’m just wondering how many times during filming Patricia said ‘Marie.’ LOL!!

    • Liz

I agree about The Middle. I have been trying to convince my friends who like Modern Family that The Middle is better but it just leads to fights.

      • Matt

ME TOO! The Middle is so clever and original and laugh-out-loud funny, while Modern Family tends to go for the obvious and cliched. I’m so confused where all the acclaim comes from.

  • Renee

This show really grew on me and I think it’s a great idea!

  • Chris

How old are the teachers at Brick’s school? A Betty White librarian and now a Doris Roberts teacher. Can’t people just retire!

    • Amanda

      Not in this economy!

      • nykolus

it’s the middle of nowhere!!! what do you expect???

      • JLC

Have they ever specified the town in Indiana where they live? I’ve always liked to think it’s Pawnee.

      • Garbyguy

I love the Middle! The town they live in is called Orson.

  • Ace

This is the Best underrated show on T.V. I don’t know why it doesn’t get the respect it deserves. I can’t wait for new episodes!

  • Chris

OFF come the gloves AGAIN!Heaton and Roberts chracters Debra and Marie are television CLASSICS! CANT wait to see the reunion match take place. Sure to please.
