CBS has announced it has ordered a new daytime talk show co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, and Marissa Jaret Winokur for the upcoming fall season. The format of the show will resemble The View, with the co-hosts discussing various current events but from a motherhood point of view, CBS says. All of the hosts have children who range in age from infants to adults.
The talk show — which is replacing the outgoing sudser As the World Turns — will also feature interviews with big-name entertainers and newsmakers. As well as serving as co-host, Gilbert will act as executive producer.
“Daytime is an evolving daypart with more variety now among soap operas, game and talk shows,” said Barbara Bloom, CBS’ Senior Vice President of Daytime, said in a statement. “We were looking for a new format that would speak to the core audience but also have the topical and entertainment value to go even broader. This panel is not a bashful bunch; they are outspoken on any issue you put on the table. It promises to be an hour of television with timely discussions, unfiltered opinions and a lot of personality.”
There was early speculation that CBS would replace As the World Turns with a CBS/Paramount-produced talk show hosted by Valerie Bertinelli, but the network opted to develop the aforementioned panel series and game shows instead. In fact, CBS considered remakes of Pyramid and Password since it replaced The Guiding Light with an update of Let’s Make a Deal.
This isn’t the first time that someone tried to make a mom version of The View. Telepictures developed a pilot featuring Kate Gosselin and Food Network star Paula Deen last year, but the project was scuttled.
Meanwhile, the final episode of As the World Turns is set to air in September.

As long as they take turns talking and not talk over and ontop of one another. That’s the bad thing about watching The View, they all talk at the sametime which is rather annoying because you can’t hear what they are saying half the time.
Keep As the World Turns!
vI love younger men. I have dated only men at least 10 years younger and as much as 17 years younger than me for many years. I love the energy and a nice tight bod. Older men just aren’t the same, different mentality.lahh. I seem to have more in common with younger guys. They’re actually more fun and are usually more interested in me. I’m flattered. I think younger men like cougars because they have no agenda, don’t usually want to get married and are usually very independent and don’t need a man to take care of them. I meet younger men on this website:(10Year gap.com

…can’t you all at EW remove the spam from these comments? These types of posts (see above) are everywhere in your comments’ sections – gets annoying for us frequent readers.
Keep As the World Turns. There are too many game and talk shows. It will hurt CBS to keep getting rid of soaps. MISS The Guiding Light. NEVER watch the replacement game show.
Please remove all of the SPAM.
I agree and I love Sara Gilbert and will gladly hear out her opinions on the world.
That’s because talking over each other is still considered “good TV”–unfortunately.
Yeah, good point…I think the view has tried to get a little better about that over the years.
That could very well be the most boring group of women ever.
Hey, it’s too soon to forget about The View. Or maybe not soon enough…
Worse than boring.
Leah Remini, Sharon Osbourne and Mellisa Jaret Winokur are not boring people.
Come on, give them a chance!!!! They are all funny, serious, soft hearted, and then some, all rolled up together…
Lawsuit from The View coming soon?
Um. No. The View doesn’t have a copyright on talk shows…
lol
So What. Who cares?
haha, good one!
bahahahaha
lol
thats funny!
I can’t stand Elizabeth, but part of the fun of watching is to scream at some of the asinine things she says. I wouldn’t want to watch a boring show with people I always agree with.
Can’t stand Elizabeth too! How does that show keep her??? I watch the View on line simply because I can forward whenever she opens her mouth!!!
Why is Chen the centerpiece of this photo? Oh, I know…she’s banging the boss, the no talent hack! This show will fail bigtime!!
I JUST thought that! I mean really Julie Chen is not good.
Awww, I really like Julie… let’s give her a chance on this show.
Chance to do what? Show her skills as a mother? She’s a new mom, and older, and rich as hell, and probably has nannies.
Listen up soap fans do NOT watch this show. If this show is a hit then B and B will be next. Not to michen if the other networks are watching and Days/OLTL could fallow. So please I beg of you if you are a soap fan/scripted program fan do not watch this show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know what, I won’t watch it. I considered it, but the 30th exclamation point really drove your point home.
Thanks, Steve. That comment had me laughing for about the last 1/2 hour.
it’s only 24 by my count.
I just counted to see if it truly was 24… and it is. I need things to do, obviously.
Spell check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t worry. I don’t think anyone will be watching. ABC’s lineup looks a lot better now!!
Hi How today?
B&B won’t be next – even if it’s losing US viewers, it’s still the most-watched show in the world.
Nicolas, it’s probably a better strategy for soap fans to KEEP WATCHING SOAPS to keep them on/ not protesting a new show on the same network. B&B and Y&A are probably going to be the holdouts along with Days, but someone has to keep watching them to stay on. Nostalgia isn’t enough anymore.
Great. Another group of broads on TV yapping about stuff nobody cares about.
“Group of broads!” LOL
At first, that was offensive. Then I read your name and I laughed.
Hey I’m female, but 5 hot, smart, funny and mature men on to talk and I would watch it faithfully.. thats a way better idea. Same reason I read my husbands Men’s Health, I love the inside perspetive.
Two people from this year’s Apprentice and Marissa Jaret Winokur from Dancing with the Stars!
and you win the Capt. Obvious award.
The Captain Obvious award is not real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zach, Marissa was not on Dancing with the Stars. She was on a sitcom a few years back.
She’s a Tony winner. She’s one of the only talented people in this lineup.
Um, yes she was. She partnered with Tony Dovolani in the fall of 2008. She made it pretty far.
uhm…yes, she was on dwts & the first season of dance your a** off
ha the Chen-bot ad libing? not gonna happen LOL but as long as there’s no Joy Bahar, i’m there! oh wait, i have a JOB
Why don’t they try something different for once? Ugh.
i agree…i dont know why this show keeps getting touted as the mommy centric version of the view…all the panelists on the view are also mothers
Yes, but 3 of the View ladies had their baby makers dry out a long time ago, and I pray that the other two don’t have any more kids.
100% agree.
That show and those hosts does not look like a show I would want to watch. Totally weird having them at the same time.
Number three in idiotic decision making. Why is CBS so out of touch with what the public wants?? First, the cancellation of Guiding Light, then As The World Turns, now this. This could possibly be the nail in CBS’s coffin. So long CBS. No reason to watch now!
Obviously enough of the public didn’t want those things considering the ratings. If shows don’t get high enough ratings they don’t get the adveriser money and it’s that money that keeps shows on the air. It’s not like atations spend millions to keep shows on the air just for the heck of it. They need something in return. The so called public wasn’t giving it.
This is coming from someone who loved those two soaps but is open minded enough to understand why they are gone.
Not necessarily. Costs versus revenue. I’d be willing to bet that Wayne Brady and “Let’s Make A Deal” is a not a ratings blockbuster. But there’s nothing cheaper to produce than a talk show or a game show–especially one like LMAD.
Unfortunately, it’s not about the ratings or money. It was over a dispute between P&G and CBS. They couldn’t agree on the rites to the show, so they let it die. 2.5 million viewers during As The World Turns time slot is more than some of their night programs.
Besides Barb, Proctor and Gamble owns Guiding Light and As The World Turns. They are the official advertisers for the shows, and have been since the beginning.
bs about the ratings. they never have to actually prove that they have a fair ratings system. it’s just assumed by everyone. i bet if we demanded to see how the ratings really were awarded, people would be very surprised
Keep in mind that daytime ratings are always going to far lower than prime time ratings. A lot of soap fans DVR their soaps and watch them after work or on the weekends. Those viewers aren’t counted in the ratings, and now they’re going to lose out because the networks either can’t or refuse to grasp the new realities of TV viewing.
You can easily look this up online. In the 90-91 season, ATWT 5.9 million viewers. Last season, it averaged 1.9 million. That is around 70% of viewers in 20 yrs. Proctor and Gamble did own the show, meaning CBS had to pay for the rights to air it and decided the rating were not worth it. It was about rating and money, not just to p*** Cynthia off.
Sorry Trey. You are a little confused about the rating system. Each point represents roughly 1.4 million viewers and those who DVR programs are not counted. It also does not count viewers around the world (which, by the way, are many for ATWT). Another point you failed to mention is that Network ratings across the board are down because of the popularity of Cable networks and On Demand options. 2.5 million viewers are a lot for an hour time slot. There are undoubtedly many more recording the program while they are at work. Sorry, just had to correct you! CBS want to cancel Y&R also. They are a ratings giant and have been for over 20 years.
It is hard to imagine a group of people that I would want to watch less. Never watching it.
An Asian-American, an African American, a lesbian, a Scientologist and a foreigner…sounds like ratings gold!
I’d rather watch “As the World Turns”–at least that show is entertaining. This sounds awful. CBS needs to stop canceling soaps!!! Throwing away a show with so much history for this nonsense is insulting!
you should watch the soaps and then they wouldn’t get canceled. historically low ratings = goner.
Not true. Their soap ratings are higher than some of CBS’s night programs. Also, they have lasted for many decades. Can’t say that about most current shows that come and go.
I agree Jessica 100 percent and yes Cynthia you are right also. it is an insult to keep canceling our soaps! My teens even love them. None of us will watch CBS when ATWT is gone. I only watched GL and ATWT anyways! I will have no use for CBS or P&G after this!!!
