'Desperate Housewives' exclusive: 'Trees' charmer to play Paul's bride!

A Desperate Housewives insider confirms to me exclusively that Men in Trees‘ delightfully daffy Emily Bergl (a.k.a. Annie) is a breath away from landing the recurring role of Beth, the fragile soul who married Paul (Mark Moses) while he was behind bars. In season 7, she joins him on Wisteria Lane with a juicy secret.

No one ever just comes to that block with pie, do they?

So what do you think of all the DH newbies? Are you excited to see what Vanessa Williams, Brian Austin Green, and, hopefully, Bergl bring to the table? Or are you thinking, “Well, there goes the neighborhood”? Speak your mind below.

ok this sitcom is just going from worse to ridiculous…no one is normal…everyone has a secret and dark past…totally illogical…

    • E

If you want normal, watch your neighbours. That’s why it’s a TV show.

      • ythu

Watch True Blood the best show on TV

    • Brian

Seriously, timelord. Desperate Housewives was never, from episode 1, anything other than a ridiculous camp-fest. It’s supposed to be fun to watch and laugh at, not realistic. Did you really think “Here’s a show chock full of logic! I can’t wait for references to highbrow literature and stunning, realistic characterization!”? Clue #1 it’s not to be taken seriously: It’s called DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

So, let me get this straight, Timelord. You’d prefer to watch a show wherein slightly overweight, frumpy, middle-aged women drive their minivan to the supermarket, where they will [warning: spoilers ahead!] have to find a parking spot, get stuck with the shopping cart with the bad wheel, and – in the nailbiting climax – decide between Prego or Ragu?
Oh, the normality – to be continued, please!!!

I am super excited for Vanessa Williams on DH. She couldn’t be more perfect for the show.

    • octoberman

Any time I can look at Vanessa Williams, it’s a good day.

I agree ultra woman. I love Vanessa and almost hit the roof that she’ll be joining the show! I cannot wait for the first episode of the new season! She’s so perfect. A sexy beautiful mom!

  • ingmar

Im looking forward to the new season of DH…cant wait! I love the ABC vet shows : Greys, Desperate and Brothers & Sisters.

  • quincy

vanessa williams is going to be epic

  • Tori

There goes the neighborhood. This is getting ridiculous.

    • Brian

Again, wrong: it was always ridiculous. That’s why you tune in. If you were tuning in for any other reason than to be entertained and laugh at ridiculous characters, then you suck at picking TV shows. Gleesh.

  • Alyssa Fan

Alyssa Milano would be better !

  • Daisy

Let’s hope this is a better role than she has in Southland. I quit watching because I was so annoyed by het character!

    • Elizabeth

Oh P L E A S E let this mean she’s off of “Southland”… quite possibly the most annoying character on TV. Even more than Teri on “Glee”.

      • Dorkophile

I dont watch DH, but I LOVE this article because I am sooo hoping this means she will be off Southland, a show that I LOVE, but her character I HATE. And YES, somehow more annoying that Teri!!!

      • Ellie

I actually love her on Southland. In part bc we all know one or two self-important messes like that. However, the character should do something redeeming once in awhile to explain why her husband doesn’t leave her.

  • Danny

Now it’s time to get Anne Heche back on ABC. I miss “Men in Trees.” I know she’s a regular on “Hung,” but I don’t have HBO. Heche would be an ideal fit on Wisteria Lane. She blends comedy and drama very well.

Did I mention how much I loved “Men in Trees”? :)

But anyway – congrats Emily Bergl!

  • Emerson

I didn’t like her character on Southland… well, we’ll see.

I’m friggin’ excited about MISS Vanessa Williams coming to Wisteria Lane!!! =)
Can’t wait for DH and Brothers&Sisters to return!

    • mary ellen

pretty much same here – just want to take her out and shoot her (and maybe the dog) on Southland….

  • Martin Haro

I’m guessing the wife will turn out to be a man or something. Mike did mention she would have a secret she never told Paul about since they met while he was in the clink.

  • Jen E.

How the hell did I miss the BAG scoop? Anyway, with all these new neighbors, I’m definitely looking forward to this season of DH.

  • JN

What’s BAG gonna be doing on the show?

    • octoberman

Do everything he can to protect John Connor…;)

      • NB

Gawd, I wish we could ‘like’ comments!! LOVE IT! I MISS T:TSCC!! :(

  • Jethro

Bringing back Paul is classic DH, wish the show could go back to the wives themselves, which made the show one of the best on TV when it debut.

There are too many guests stars and they usually come with the season story line, so having Vanessa on the show along with Paul may be too much to follow.
Angie’s story line dragged on but the season ender was good.

With Paul returning and actually renting Susan’s house should be fun.

  • Tom

I hope it doesn’t take too long to see a shirtless Brian Austin Green.

    • Jen E.

Better be every episode or I’m arranging a picket outside Marc Cherry’s house.

      • NB

If I could ‘fan’ or ‘like’ your comment I would! BAG, all the way!!! :)

  • tomm

I’d like to see what happened to Zach [Paul's step-son] during all this time. Did he lose his fortune or company he inherited from grand-daddy? I’d say he did since he had no experience in running it or how to handle big money.
