'Weeds': Will this be its last season on Showtime?

At a Comic Con panel Thursday celebrating Showtime’s critically beloved shows, the show runner for Weeds addressed the dramedy’s future going forward. When a convention-goer asked whether the coming season that begins Aug. 16 will be the show’s last, executive producer Victoria Morrow paused and then gave a very simple answer: “No.”

Good. I love Weeds. I watched the entire series up to this point in about a week this past winter. It was awesome.

    • Missy

I did the same thing..stumbled upon it on Netflix and was hooked. Watched all th seasons in less than two weeks.

      • Alex Hernandez

I love this show aswell, it was Netflix that brought it to my attention. The show is soo funny and just crazy !

Me, too! I watched every episode from all 5 fives On Demand. Can’t wait for the new season!!

      • april

Oops, that should be “5 seasons” not “5 fives” LOL :P

  • Bee

i enjoyed all of weeds, but even as a fan, i cannot deny that the last 2 seasons didn’t have nearly as many laugh-out-loud moments as the first three, especially the first two. they took out the priceless conrad, heylia, and others for these boring and not-funny characters from mexico like esteban and guillermo. so while i’m glad that it looks like we’ll get even more nancy botwin, i hope the show can revert back to it’s earlier glory days instead of remaining just a decent show and going on and on.

    • Eric

Yeah they should have stopped when the town burnt down

    • Jim

      I agree……..

      • Dave

I agree as well. They also need to do a more with Doug and Dean. Doug and Dean were successful and hilarious. They are almost getting depressing.

    • no1v3in

I didn’t like how conrad and heylia just disappeared.

    • courtney

The hot dog down a hall way comment wasn’t funny?

      • Bill

YES… Spin off the Doug and Andy Show… I’d watch it!

    • dru

I agree the show lost its way when they moved from Majestic. It’s not been fun for a long time and the preview of the new season has me asking myself if I even want to watch at all.

      I can’t stand Doug.

    • laylagalise

Agreed, they should have never left Majestic… or at least they should have never done the Esteban storyline. Ugh, it’s been horrible. I wish they’d bring back Conrad.

  • i think it’ll have two more seasons max. i just don’t see how it goes beyond that. i know it has been doing pretty well in the ratings but man, creatively it seems so gassed. i think this season could help stop that trend. hopefully.

  • MCS

So…what was this article about? The headline suggests that the show was going to end this coming sixth season, or even that it would change networks, but then there is a one word answer that the headline is wrong. So an article on nothing? And also, since when has Morrow been the show runner? Unless it has changed quite recently, it is Jenji Kohan. If the journalist knew this and just left it out, its a terribly written article. No wonder I only read Ausiello or Ken Tucker’s articles.

    • Luis

Couldn’t agree more. Well, at least they made fans of Weeds click on this pointless page so that we could see an ad for a new phone.

      • Drew

The author needs to either add information about a possible network switch, or re-title the article, because this feels like a tease before the commercial break for some actual information.

      • MCS

The most informative part of this article was the Samsung ad. I had been hearing of this new phone, but didnt know the name. Now I do, but am no more informed on Weeds.

    • MJW

This article is akin to “bait and switch” tactics…..

      • Luis

        The old switcheroo.

    • april

Well, genius, I think the headline is to get you to read it, then when you do read it, you find out that this coming season will NOT be the last… what’s so difficult to decipher??

    • Jesse Phillips

Victoria M. is one of the Story Editors…

    • Zombie Jesus

We’ve just been trolled by EW :-(

    • Nik

right… I thought I was going to get some insight or something. Pointless article.

  • jay

    what a stupid article

    • jayjay

Funny, I’m also jay… and thought the same thing. What was the point of this?

  • went to the tailor

Who is Morrow? Where was Jenji?
If this is true, then I’m thrilled!

  • went to the tailor

oh, anyone know if Jenji/MLP were at the “antiheros”/showtime panel to talk about Weeds? I see MLP was there for Red promotion and was just curious as to what they may have discussed.

  • elliot

How did this crap article make the front page of CNN?

  • markiejoe

I’ve enjoyed Weeds since the beginning. But the time they put between seasons is just too much. Nearly a year? That plus the fact that they only do, what?, 12 or 13 episodes a season? Of a half-hour series? Sorry, but you just can’t stay too glued to a half-hour series that only appears once every 9 months to a year. Gotta go more than that.

  • Trey

Weeds was really good the first 2 seasons but it’s drifted off into mediocrity the last few. They need to quit before we see Nancy at a theme park jumping a shark. But I loved Shane’s last line ” I couldn’t find a golf club.” that was fricken awesome

  • Simplulo

The show should end when the Drug War ends. Not soon. There’s an endless supply of material.

  • lazer007

very sad i have never seen one show of it yet and now there takeing it off the air..

    • elliot

read the article not the headline.

  • Gary S.

Let’s hope so! Althought the premise and first season worked perfectly, it all became SO unbelievable. I mean, what’s next…Nancy Dealing drugs in the basement of the White House? And as a side note, is it possible for Mary-Louise Parker to have a scene WITHOUT an Starbucks-like cup in hand?

    • Anitamargarita

I don’t think they ever meant for this show to be beleiveable.

    • Anitamargarita

Oh, and watch the season trailer (posted recently on EW) Andy bats the cup out of her hand and she gives him a WTF? look and he says “Dunno, just always wanted to do that.” Hilarious!

  • Ken

too bad. This show ran out of ideas 3 seasons ago.

    • melissa

me and the husband are halfway through season 4, by watching on-demand; after the town burned down, things have been kinda eh…oh…I MISS CONRAD!

  • melissa

You know Nancy is a caffeine freak, she always NEEDS her java!
