Scoop: 'Human Target' takes aim at 'Rome' beauty Indira Varma

indira-varma-valleyEnglish actress Indira Varma (a.k.a. Niobe on HBO’s Rome) is joining the cast of Human Target as a series regular, sources confirm.

Varma, who also had brief but memorable stints on Torchwood (as Suzie Costello) and Bones (as Booth’s UK counterpart Cate Pritchard), will play new team leader Ilsa.

Per the original casting breakdown, Ilsa is described as “sophisticated, driven and principled. She is a widow with a vast fortune that she uses to help better the world. Ilsa finds Chance’s [Mark Valley] lethal methods and his past deeds unacceptable, but she will learn to appreciate (slowly) the altruistic benefits that he has to offer. Ilsa is witty, sexy, clearly in charge and doesn’t take any nonsense from anyone. Chance has met his match.”

Cool! He’s needs more of a conscious than Winston to challenge him.

  • sprzzatura

She was Booth’s counterpart. Otherwise, awesome!

    • Coz

She was Booth’s counterpart. Therefore, awesome!

  • Stacey

No way! I totally loved her in Rome. She was stunning and hard to not pay attention to. Solid actress, too. Should be good.

  • bluebonnetbelle

    They keep killing Suzie!
Always end up yelling that at the TV whenever she is on now.

    • Adam

She was bloody awesome in Torchwood, made Suzie Costello the most memorable badie until John Hart came along.

Terrific addiction, might have to give Human Target a try this coming season!

    • RyRyNYC

I loved Suzie on Torchwood… always thought they could have had her character spread out more in the original series.

  • Waheed

She just finished up an amazing job on the Britsh Idris Elba show Luther. Looking forward to this.

  • JeffDJ

“New team leader”?? Does this mean Chi McBride isn’t coming back?

    • Gwen

Oh, I hope not…I love Chi McBride!

    • BlackIrish4094

Please say that’s not the case, he was awesome.

    • bklynny

They should have two bosses, like most shows do, where one is a bit higher rank than the other but they both have employees.

    • Kris

From an article I read somewhere else, it sounds like she “buys” their company. McBride was at Comic-Con for the show, so I’m assuming Varma’s character becomes Winston’s boss, which should be amusing.

  • XK

Loved her in Rome. Looking forward to seeing her in Human Target, which I enjoyed immensely last year. :)

  • Jaded

Human Target is such a cool show! And it doesn’t hurt that Mark Valley is a hottie!

    • Luminosity

      I agree!

  • Rock Chick

I love this show. But I fear cuz Fox has moved it to Friday night. This upcoming season will probably be it’s last. And I think last I read this upcoming season is 13 episodes. I really hope this series last more than 2 short seasons.

    • Tarc

Actually, if something can do well on Friday nights, it’s sci-fi. heck, Sci-fi (whatver the ridiculous new spelling is) channel usually runs two of the main original series on Fridays, and they do quite well. It’s the incompetence of the networks that kills Friday shows; in this day and age of the DVR and other TV downloading/viewing sources, it really doesn’t matter which night a program airs.

      • BHM1304

Syfy isn’t going to stay with original programs on Friday. It is bringing in WWE “Smackdown” come fall.

      • BlackIrish4094

Fridays seemed to kill Dollhouse so I dunno about that.

  • Bella

I have the same question as JeffDJ. I don’t have a problem with her coming on (I don’t remember her from any Bones episode), but I really like Winston and Chi McBride and don’t remember reading anything about him not coming back. I sure hope he does.

  • Jay

Nice casting! Still wish they hadn’t banished this show to Friday nights…

    • Kathy

Why is everyone so peeved about the show moving to Friday nights…haven’t you heard of the DVR?

  • Laura

I’m excited — I hadn’t even heard for sure that the show was coming back!!

  • Mendez

Muere en Roma, muere en Torchwood, muere en Luther (una gran serie británica cuya primera temporada acabó hace unos meses) y estoy seguro de que también morirá en esta ocasión. Los productores han tenido que ver algo en su cara que siempre dice “muerta”.

    • BlackIrish4094

      Habla ingles. Gracias.

      • Steve

        Online translation:

She dies in Rome, dies in Torchwood, dies in Luther (a great British series whose first season finished a few months ago) and I am sure that also she will die in this occasion. The producers have had to do something in their face that always says she dies.

Not my translation, but hope this helps.

  • Bruce_F

Indira Varma is a good actress and I certainly don’t object to her joining the cast. I’m just not sold on the idea of the crew having a boss to answer to.

    • Brittany

I agree totally with this. She’s the leader? I liked Chance being in charge of his own life, doing his own thing.

  • IdolFan

I hope this does not mean that Chi McBride/Winston is leaving the show! I love the cast as-is and do not want to see any of the 3 regulars leave!

    • DeeDee

I agree. Love the relationship between the three regulars and I want it to remain that way. I would not mind a recurring fourth character added to the show. I did not like her character on Bones. Not sure how I feel about the casting decision. I just hope they don’t mess up the show. Every time they start making changes to a show it is never the same.
