'Chuck' scoop: Mama Bartowski to be played by... Sarah freakin' Connor!

linda-hamilton-zach-leviThe search for Chuck’s mom has officially been terminated, and with good reason: Linda Hamilton has already landed the part!

The erstwhile Sarah Connor will make her first appearance as Zachary Levi’s MIA spy mama Mary Bartowski in Chuck‘s fourth-season premiere on Sept. 20. (Hamilton’s hiring is slated to be announced at Chuck‘s Comic-Con panel this morning.)

“We’re always looking for guest stars who will be great in the part, but who also speak to our audience and feel like it comes out of the universe of our show,” says exec producer Josh Schwartz. “If Chuck and Morgan were watching Chuck, they would be excited about Linda coming on board.” Adds fellow EP Chris Fedak: “Chuck was certainly a Terminator fan, and Morgan was a Beauty and the Beast fan.”

But Schwartz is quick to add that Hamilton brings more to the role than just a fanboy-friendly resume. “Obviously her body of work was important to us, but also knowing what this part was and the intensity that we were going to need from someone, Linda was a natural fit. She’ll be [kicking ass] right out of the gate.”

“The mystery surrounding Chuck’s mom is at the heart of the season, and there are going to be some shocking surprises in the first episode,” previews Fedak. “By the end of the episode we are going to turn everything on its head with regard to who she is.”

Reaction? Is this the most geektacular casting coup since Scott Bakula was tapped to play Chuck’s dad? Take a second to compose yourselves and then hit the comments!

I love this show and the respect it has for its nerdy fans.

    • Cris

See, you hit the nail on the head there. This show respects the fans who watch it. That’s why they go out of their way to infuse pop culture and sci-fi references into the show, and why their “stunt casting” is always successful … because they take the time and try to get the guests who they think the fans would want to see. Love this show more and more …

      • ger

Now if it could only bring in new fans and be an actual hit …

      • Jello

Spread the word. it needs to be like spreading the jelly on the bread, so people can actually taste the goodness.

      • MIchael

I will surely watch Chuck if she is playing!

      • xxodettexx

OMG! i love this show and this just makes me love it even more!!!!!!!!

I love the show, and was very excited with this new concept…to find out Linda Hamilton will be part of it is terrific. She’s a good actress.

This was already reported on TV GUIDE

EW had the news three hours earlier.

      • Dummy

It was certainly reported Twitter before EW.

  • dmac2498

Now I have a reason to watch ‘Chuck’!!!

  • Cal

Sarah Connor!!!! This is awesome. I love this show

  • RobThy

    I’m in with this!

    • darclyte

W00t! When the season ended, they asked who people wanted to see and I said either Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton or Lena Headey.) So, yay, I’m glad that one of them actually got the job!

      • Itaintrite

Lena Headey is busy with A Game of Thrones :P Leave her alone.

      • Strepsi

I said anyone named Linda: Linda Hamilton or Lynda Carter (because Ellie looks exactly like WOnder Woman and she would also kick ass). So yay, I am happy too!

  • Dee

Hell yes, Linda Hamilton?! CANNOT wait for the new season to start!!!

  • p

YES YES YES! She was my second choice (my first was Lynda Carter).

    • Zazazing

My first choices was Lynda Carter, too, since she looks so much like Ellie. But Linda Hamilton is a great choice. I’m amazed that they got her!

  • Jeffrey

Isn’t she a bit too old? I mean i admire and all, but can she still kick ass? Seriously.

    • Peggy

Well, you couldn’t get a 20 or 30-something to play Chuck’s Mom. You would almost have to have somebody in their late 40′s or early 50s.

    • Trace

I don’t know if she can still kick ass (we’ll find out, I guess), but she’s 53 and playing mother to two characters in their late 20′s/early 30′s. Definitely not too old.

    • Jeffrey

      You’re right. I’m a tool.

    • Anne

Seriously? You’re an idiot. Linda Hamilton is what, in her early 50′s at most… you act as if she is 90+ and in a wheelchair. My karate instructor is a 62 year old woman, 4th degree black belt, and I can assure you, can mop the floor with anyone foolish enough to take her on. You need to get your head out of the (very far) past.

      • Jim

Wow, he had already admitted he was wrong well over an hour ago. But good thing you set him straight.

    • Dee

      Never underestimate more mature women.

    • Anita H

LOL! Can she still kick ass?? I’m 55 and weigh 114 pounds and can bench 150 pounds and deadlift 275 pounds. Hell Yeah, she can still kick ass!

  • Rom

I am so freakin’ excited! Good choice!

  • Emily N.

    Cool casting!

  • Jason

    Nice.

  • sadie

I remember Chuck’s dad telling Ellie she looked just like her mom & I wondered who they’d cast. Great choice!

  • Catarina

    OMG. Great casting!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking forwards to seeing her with dark hair!

  • Jeffrey

Guess if you can’t beat them join them. Great to have you on the show Linda!

  • maggieann

You couldn’t have someone younger than 45 or so to play Chuck’s mom. It has to be an older actress, and Linda Hamilton is perfect.

  • hephastia

    Whoo hoo!

    • bckennedy

Wow. Am I the only Chuck whose not excited by this?

      • Linh

        Yes you are

      • carolinagirl

I would say that is a big ole “YES”! Can’t wait to see Linda in this role! Not only is she a great actress – she is one of the nicest celebrities you could ever hope to meet. This could not have happened to a more deserving actor.

      • Strepsi

        Mm Hmm. Just you.
