The Without a Trace alum has been dropped from the cast of the Shonda Rhimes-produced doctors-in-paradise drama, sources confirm to me exclusively. I’m told Murciano was let go for creative reasons and the role will not be recast.
The news comes a week after Twilight‘s Rachelle Lefevre signed on to Map as a series regular.

Wasn’t sure about this show, but without Enrique I’m definately NOT tuning in.
Not the end of the world, his character turned me off in the promos. I’m only tuning in for Caroline Dhavernas anyways, so it’s not a loss.
hmmm…. blind item?
Can’t be the blind item. Although Enrique Murciano is known for Without a Trace, I would not consider him a “diva”. Also, I don’t know what his character was but since it is not being recast and the blind item said “male lead” I also don’t think so. Now if Michael would only tell us who it is.
That’s what I was wondering.
He has a terrible reputation for acting like a pr*ck on the set.
KCatty, I was just wondering if it was the blind item too.
Well, because I’m not that interested in any new Shonda Rhimes-DR-Dramas I’m not shocked, but it’s interesting to read about just ANOTHER “creative”-reasons-dismissal. A.J. Cook, anyone? Producers, you really start to enrage me pretty bad!
AJ not dismissed for creative reasons. She was dismissed for financial ones.
Yeah, that’s why I put it in quotation marks
I just have the feeling that these decisions here also have nothing to do with creative but with financial ones, they just cover it up by calling it creative…
But they are replacing A.J. What about Mandy Patinkin – creative differences. Yes, he is probably wanting too much of the script power (he had god ideas and evidence crossed wires with the producers) but, I still miss him very much. I don’t like Joe Mantegna either. He certainly wasn’t put in a position of importance like Mandy and he whines a lot. I know it’s just his voice but it is annoying.
Enrique was one of my main reasons to tune in. Now I’m not sure I will even check it out. Stupid move. He’s one of the main characters besides, and I was really curious to see his role expanding. They’re gonna regret it.
How can it be a ‘stupid move’ to eliminate a role from a show that we’ve never seen, performed by an actor that the vast majority of people have never heard of?
This isn’t the blind item. That was the male lead who had a fabulous leading lady. That’s not the role he had on the show at all. The leading man here is Martin Henderson, not Murciano.
sucks! the only thing about this show worth watching was him.
Sadest news I’ve read lately. He was the reason I was going to watch this tv-show. Great actor, I hope he gets a new chance soon.
I will always remember him from Spyder Games (and that cutie Byron Field – who dropped off the map).
I know! He’s more famous for Without a Trace, but he’ll always be Francisco to me.
Funny. As much as I CAN NOT stand Grey’s Anatomy or Private Practice, I was going to give this one a try… But without Enrique, not a chance.
What is this show? I apparently don’t pay attention, Shonda Rhimes is doing ANOTHER dr. drama on ABC? That seems a bit excessive. Is anyone from private practice or greys even going to be on it to help it along??
It’s only produced by her. One of the GA writers created this show.
It doesn’t premiere this fall, my dear Michael. It’s a mid-season replacement, remember?
Well, that was a pretty dumb move by Shonda. He is a good actor and most definitely a reason to watch any show. Too bad.
Shonda may not have had a choice. If the Network or studio wants an actor or character gone, and the showrunner can’t dissuade them from that decision, the actor is gone.
the show will go on
Yes, and I won’t be watching.
