'NCIS: LA' scoop: Eric Christian Olsen upped to series regular

eric-christian-olsenImage Credit: UPI Photo/John Hayes/LandovThis just in: Eric Christian Olsen—who recurred on NCIS: LA last season as LAPD liaison Marty Deeks—has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular, CBS confirms.
“We are thrilled to have Eric join the cast,” said executive producer Shane Brennan in a statement. “He has already proved himself to be a great asset and invaluable member of the team, and Eric’s fans will be delighted to see what we have in store for him.”

NCIS: LA‘s second season kicks off with a two-hour episode on Sept. 21.

Thoughts? Happy Olsen is sticking around full time? Sad this probably means no more Vaughn on Community? Hit the comments!

Sad, I was hoping Vaughn would come back from Delaware.

    • Sara

Ha, until I read this comment I had not connected that those two characters were the same actor. I’m a little slow in the summer :)

      • Nicotine

I’m a little slow too, because even though I knew Olsen played both characters, I had no idea what j meant until I read your comment.

But I liked Deeks’ character on NCIS:LA – especially the flirtation between him and Kensi. I like this addition, but I still miss Dom…

  • Luminosity

    I liked Dom better.

  • CC

    Yay! Love him.

  • Bianxa

Yeah! I am actually pretty stoked about this addition! I think the Deeks character is an awesome addition :-D

  • Aye, Tortuga

    double rainbow all the way!

    • cryan

Will someone please explain to me what ‘double rainbow all the way’ means? I can’t figure it out. Thx.

      • HOUSEwife

        Youtube baby!

      • Cheery

        FULL ON complete double rainbow!

      • Val Whitmyre

I particularly like your new co-producer, Erik Whitmyre. Great new opening.

    • Teresa U

      WIN! LOL!!!!!

  • Stevie

Not particularly thrilled. I thought they were bringing another woman into the regular cast…

  • Lorie

Woo hoo! I was hoping for this to happen.

    • Bethany

Same! I’m excited–he seemed a lot more comfortable with his character than most of the others who had been around since the backdoor pilot last May. I was hoping they’d keep him around–he’s a cool guy and adds an interesting element to the show.

  • Daisy

Deeks is cool, much better dan Don (although I’m sad he got killed). Glad he stay’s on. :)

  • jenna

Of course, CBS promotes the males and fires the females.

    • Jane

No women were fired from NCIS:LA. In fact, I think they were looking to add one.

      • jenna

CBS fired, okay, they didn’t renew the contracts of 2 women, one on CSI and one on Criminal Minds. Another on CM was demoted to fewer episodes. Melina K on CSI:NY didn’t re-sign, and most likely because they wanted her to take a pay cut, as a they also wanted Marg Helgenberger to do on CSI. She did re-sign, but only for limited episodes, and then she is leaving.

  • Charlie

I knew this was coming ever since they introduced him last season as a potential Dom replacement.

  • banni

Only ladies will be happy about this news. It’s Deeks, duh!

  • Julie

I really liked his character; but there is too much testosterone on this show.

    • cheryl

That’s just fine with this woman!!!

  • TJ

Nope, not thrilled. I want RENKO!!

    • Teresa U

I would like to see Renko more as well.

  • ggny

Anything ECO is in i will watch guess i will have to give NCIS LA another try

    • Tego Livi

You’ll be glad they’re going to start running “Dumb and Dumberer” every week, then.

  • Cait

I’m glad they’ve done this. (i am a little sad that they’ve not added another female character, but this was set up ages ago) I loved Eric on the show, there’s a great dynamic there.
