“Maybe I’ll read spoilers instead of watching the actual show, sorry show.” Me, too. This contrived keeping them apart is making me give up. First season was great, last year got worse and worse——sorry Nathan, I love you, but I hate what is happening to these two. They need to be together; we’re not in high school anymore, a relationship that works would be a welcome change.

    • denise

please, please Elliot don’t give up!
This isn’t a LOVE STORY… Did you watch Nathan’s video comment… he is right… If they get together…it will loose his audience…and hell, he is right!!!

      • Jeff

No, he’s dead wrong, and the show will suffer for it.

      • Jena

No, he is right. The hookup is usually the killer. And I’ll continue to watch even if they don’t get together.

For those who complain and state they wouldn’t watch ….well go riddance.

Seriously, how would that season finale have looked had they actually gotten together? Beckett realizes she digs Castle in the episode, says her feelings… and they start dating? As courtship dances go, that’d be a pretty poor excuse for a storyline. It’s almost unfair for Beckett to have it happen that way, because she really didn’t do anything to earn it, never had to suffer through anything like Castle did for at least a few episodes. If you’re going to do an URST plot, you can’t make it easy for anyone. Now, I can understand if someone didn’t want Castle to even go there with the sexual tension, but they did, and now it’s Kate’s turn to have her heart strings pulled some.

As for Bones, they’re a pretty extreme case of URST moving slow, since they even pulled out the amnesia hook before one of them made a move, in season five. OTOH, they’ve got nothing on Frasier; it took *seven seasons* before Daphne discovered that Niles loved her. Castle is moving pretty lightning fast compared to those shows, so I’m having a hard time seeing what the complaints are about when it comes to Castle and Beckett not being together on the first try, unless it’s cuz fans are concerned it’s never going to happen because the show won’t last to a fourth season (which is certainly a possibility).

  • denise

the message is clear… we have a new BONES in our hands…
And i accept what Nathan said… it’s real life. The Audience wishes that they get together…Sorry, its too soon…may be after 5-6 season you will get christmas present:)))

    So long people!

I’m sorry I saw that clip, because I really like Castle, and the writers are making a huge mistake. I also like Fillion as an actor, and to hear that “Moonlighting” nonsense come out his mouth makes me extremely disappointed with him. How can someone involved in the industry still believe that crap after all this time, plus with the current counter-examples mentioned (Bones) refuting that argument?

Season I (what, 10 episodes?) set up the premise of “He likes her, she hates him, then she isn’t convinced, and then she accepts him only to reject him when he doesn’t listen”; Season II (just completed) ranged from “she rejected him, then she lets him back in, and then she admits that she wants him, but he thinks she has found someone else so he leaves her”. (Still with me?) So, I think Season III should be the pair completely clearing the slate over the first 6 – 8 episodes to eventually arrive mid-season III to where they were mid-season II, but now with Beckett pursuing Castle who is distracted by something non-romantic (the 3rd Nikki Heat book or the first Nikki Heat movie?). Season III should end with a declaration of “vast mutual like” (however you wish to define that), so Season IV then starts with a “secret relationship” that eventually becomes known first to the families and then to the precinct, and finally to the outside world/papparazzi. And, then successfully onto a Season V.

And, if you are not familiar with the classic “Thin Man” movies (can those be almost 70 years old?!), rent from Netflix – classic banter between a loving married couple (so I guess we gotta get the Castle family a dog). Yes, it CAN work. And, I trust Andrew Marlowe and Company to make it so: some of their scripts have set the bar so incredibly high: we know they can do this! (And, please, Nathan Christopher, no more usage of the “M” word; it only ticks off your devoted Castle audience and the totality of Firefly’s fan base.) If I want to see failed relationships, a quick look at my past boyfriends are proof enough. Raise television to being more than a piece of furniture in the living room. I trust that you won’t let the Hopeless Romantic in us down.

A lot of talking about the Moonlight curse. But there’s the Bones’ curse, you know? URST drag too long ain’t a good thing either. Hope Castle’s writers are aware of it. Sadly I won’t be there to see it because I’m moving on to another show. I don’t like the whole “married with other people” comment because of its implication of same old “will they won’t they” stuff. I couldn’t stand it, so.

    • Angela Beckett

of course, I meant Moonlighting :)

  • mary

    Love Nathan.

I am not sure I can still like Castle through anything. It is only season 3 and they are still fragile.

I hope they won’t jump the shark, really is ex wife, he is regressing!

  • April

I hate when people use the moonlighting crap line. Move on..if you WRITE it well it won’t be moonlighting. Also you have actors on Castle that actually like each other so there, work with that. It won’t be moonlighting. They don’t necessarily have to be together but the whole other person storyline stinks. Have Beckett stuck in the past with her mom’s killer thing as a opposition to them getting together.

  • Crystal

I seriously can’t handle this show if it continues on the path similar to the one Bones forged. Yes, it is a different show but when the same formula is used for it? It becomes stale and old. Have them get together. Have something pull them apart. Most adults don’t dance around one another for two years if they really like one another. They go for it. THAT is realistic…not drawing it out to the point that no one cares.

  • janeway

I don’t want to see them with other people! I love Castle and Beckett’s flirty chemistry. I agree I am tired of the Moonlighting example that couples can’t get together. Yeah the dynamic might change a little but it could be more like Mr & Mrs Smith or Hart to Hart, couples working together but they aren’t always going to agree or get along.

  • CJ

It would be a shame if the people who are professing that they’ve given up on the show based on this one interview actually give up on the show. At least start out watching season 3 to see how it’s all going to work (or not work) and if you don’t like where it is headed, stop watching at that point. You’re free to do what you want, of course, but I find it utterly ridiculous to quit on a show based on one interview when you haven’t at least seen a little of how it is going to play out on screen. Besides, if you’re giving up on the show simply because Castle and Beckett aren’t going to get together as soon as you want them to, I have to question whether you’re really a fan of the show or just a fan of the Castle-Beckett relationship. I realize that their relationship is a pretty big part of the show’s dynamic, but it is not all the show has to offer.

  • alan of montreal

couldn’t stop staring at his biceps…

  • April

This interview fills me with dread for next season. I absolutely hated Castle going off with Gina and I no longer trust the writers as I did before.

Michael, I agree with you completely. More shows have been ruined by keeping the couple artifically apart than by putting them together. If they don’t have Castle and Beckett done with other love interests by mid-fall, I’m going to lose my love for the show and put it into the ‘just okay’ category.

The end of season 3 is when a show should put the couple together if they are going to get themn together at all. Anything more than that and they both end up looking like idiots.

  • beck

see smallville, lois and clark, they are together, the show still works and is in fact getting better because of that fact. all you have to have is to good actors (which they do have) to well written characters (which so far they have been) this show is just going to turn into another bones otherwise, (which i have stopped watching because of that fact) or if they are not together just have them stay single, as other people have said.
