Rachel Bilson will reprise her role as the titular mama’s roommate, Cindy, on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas confirm.
Bilson will appear in the show’s sixth-season premiere this fall when Cindy shows up at MacLaren’s bar, the favored hangout of Mother‘s central quintet. “The season premiere is going to be very much informed by her presence,” says Bays.

I kinda wish she was the Mother :p but at least this leads to serious development towards finding Ted’s future baby mama.
I’m wondering if there’s any possibility than the casting of the actual mother could top the casting of some of the not-mothers: it’s hard to top the adorableness of Rachel Bilson or Ashley Williams.
I agree 100%. There aren’t many that could top Rachel Bilson and Ashley Williams on the adorable scale.
I’m guessing the mother is Mischa Barton ; )
I want Mila Kunis to be the mother, she even looks like Lindsay Fonseca.
Sarah Michelle Gellar should be the mother!
Rachel Bilson is way to hot for a douche like Ted
Seth Cohen. He’s awesome, but he got real douchey in season 3. I’m not saying Adam did, but… lol
For whatever reason, the “mother” aspect of HIMYM is the least enjoyable part of the show to me. To be honest, I’m not big on Ted Mosby altogether.
My favorite show! I liked her on the 100th episode so glad to see her back
Haha! I feel the same way. I’m all about the other 4. Ted is just so blah. I’m not a big fan. Also i’m afraid that the mother is going to be a big let down like the thing with the goat was. The only good part of the episode with the goat was the return of the song, “Murder Train” which I still get randomly stuck in my head.
My favorite Ted is drunk Ted. Emo, love-stricken Ted bores (and annoys) me.
I have that song stuck in my head all the time too. Great show but the best parts are definitely not about who the mother is.
I absolutely agree. Unfortunately the name of the show is “How I Met Your Mother”, not “Robin & Barney’s Relationship As Told by Their Uber-weenie Friend Ted {That No One Really Cares About}”. I cannot wait to be introduced to the “Mother” character, but I know it will mean a few episodes of getting her & Ted together and then the show will probably loss it’s appeal. I would rather see Robin & Barney’s relationship develope and hopefully end in marriage. At this point I could really care less about Ted, I just want to know who the “Mother” is.
I’m weird. I love Ted and I hate Barney.
The search for the Mother is my favorite part of the show, and I’ve been disappointed they’ve let it fall by the wayside in the past season.
Personally I’d still love it if it turned out to be Ashley Williams from Season 1.
Was she Victoria? Ted was at his absolute best with Victoria
Means to an end, please. Means to an end. I think the show should just go ahead and introduce the mother already. The suspense is starting to wear very thin.
Yes, yes, and yes. You have to think that they’re regretting naming the show that now and having that whole premise exist at all.
They should just come on in the beginning of next season and say, “We’re ditching this whole, ‘Ted’s future wife’ crap and just going with the Friends like show we have.”
I also agree. The show is great not because we care so much about Ted’s future wife, but because the supporting cast of people are awesome. And yes, Ted is the ‘straight’ man. He’s not funny or as interesting as anyone else.
Personally I love Marshall and now I keep having dreams about Jason Segel.
It’s slightly disturbing.
I absolutely LOVE Jason Segel and I would love to have him in my dreams. I think that a great sense on humor makes any guy good looking (but I do think that Jason is good looking anyway – I’ve loved him since Freaks & Geeks)
jason is not hot at all. and i shudder to think that i have seen his penis. my eyes! they burn!
Oh I so wish she was the mother! I love her. Too bad…
I wish she was the mother.
Ted is the most boring character. Oddly the lead character seems to get the short straw a lot. But, I love Rachel!!!
That was true in the beginning but he is actually the most interesting character last season. Robin was soulless. Barney became a cliche. Marshall and Lily are and forever be super boring.
Lily, in my book, has dethroned Phoebe from Friends as the worst character ever. She’s always mean, she’s always selfish, she’s rarely funny: I have no desire to know someone like her in real life. The rest of them are at least OK people, even Barney.
I cant even take you seriously after calling Phoebe the worst character ever, are you Helen Keller?
Greg,
You must watch a lot of shows on tru network, or hatcheted films on AMC. You also must be a Leno fan. And, finally, you must love Ross.
Moron!
I really like this show – so don’t think I’m just hating – but I think that HIMYM is really overrated. The show began well, peaked in the middle, and has gradually become a lame imitation of its once great form. I think that Barney is overrated (again, that’s just ME), Ted is boring, and Robin is one-dimensional; however I quite like Marshall and Lily. Anyway, here’s hoping it can become great again. And Rachel is great, so excited to see her back.
Totally agree. The show (unfortunately) has peaked. I felt it went seriously downhill when the Barney character began to emerge and garnered the most screentime. It wore out quickly. At this point the series is seeing viewer erosion and frankly, more people no longer are caring who the mother turns out to be. That’s not good for this show’s future.
I kind of agree. I feel it is like season three of Lost where they started to just add fluff to lengthen the series. They need to have a clear end date so the show can end. I still love it, but last season was the worst, and before that I think they kept getting better.
After all the character’s jumped across the roof two season finales ago, I feel the show stayed behind.
this show should have no more than two more seasons. many agree the shtick that made the show has grown thin. tv execs try and squeeze every ad dollar they can out of a show unfortunately and don’t care that the show is on an artistic decline. really. how much more of a story is there for these characters? introduce the mother. have the characters actually grow some this season and then let it end already.
Yeah, this show IS way overrated. It’s amusing enough to watch from time to time. I like Lily and Marshall the best. NPH is WAAAAY overrated (not to mention overexposed) and does not play his part naturally. But at least he puts some effort into it – the actress who plays Robin is so limp and lifeless, and not very convincing at all. The actors who play Lily and Marshall seem to be the most natural and talented on the show.
I still believe that HIMYM is the blind item for the wedding we would never see
I agree with everybody else- I wish she was the mother.
I used to love this show, but season 5 just didn’t do it for me. I only really enjoyed 3 episodes last year. I’d like to see it wrap up this year, but that’s just my opinion.
Have to agree with you, Ryan. Last season was a real disappointment. Some episodes … I just hit fast forward on the DVR. I’ve been watching since the beginning and will watch again this fall, but I really hope this show gets back on track — and soon.
The show is just sputtering/spinning wheels now.
They really need to introduce the mother already.
It may be a drastic change, but the show is long overdue for _something_ to happen already.
Agreed, they’ve reached the point where there is very little story left to tell, but it’s too popular of a show to end. Hopefully the stars and creators agree too an end date and make season 6 or 7 the last. Better to end on a (relatively) high note, than to simply drag on like so many other sitcoms.
Rachel is the titualar Mother’s room-mate — her being on the season premiere is really exciting! Looking forward to season six
I think that they should decide to either meet the mother or end the show. The premise isn’t just wearing thin, it is bordering on completely unbelievable at this point.
Love Rachel Bilson. Dislike the “oooh, he’s looking for the mother!” aspect of the show. Like Ted most of the time. Dislike this kind of weird like/dislike post.
I’ve always been someone who felt as though the Mother should be introduced in the series finale, that the title of the show was just an excuse to tell the stories about Ted and his four friends living in New York. Until last season, that is. Ted can be kind of boring, but he still needs something to do, and last season he (and the show) sort of floundered without a central storyline grounding it.
So, I’d be okay with Rachel being around for awhile, Ted dating her, and maybe Ted having some near-misses with his future wife. That said, it’s probably more likely that they’ll bring Rachel in for the premiere, and then we won’t hear anything more about her or the mother until the season finale, with a bunch of standalone episodes making up the majority of the season.
I agree with your series finale thoughts. Although I wouldn’t be opposed to a storyline that lasted the entire last season…”Well kids, this is the night I met your mother…” and we meet her and then a series of unfortunate and funny events happen throughout the season only to culminate at the series finale. Just my two cents…
That would be awesome!!!! I’m sick of waiting for the mother unknowingly, but a chance for Ted to meet her then lose her would be awesome! Especially if he doesn’t know the connection between her and Rachel Bilson’s character…
