Will Tony Shalhoub earn a final golden statue for his role on Monk? We found out which episodes the actors — and supporting ones — are submitting for consideration in the comedy categories. Nominees send their episodes to a select group of TV Academy members/volunteers, who then screen the submissions at home. Ballots are due back to Ernst & Young by Aug. 17; the Emmys will air Aug. 29. See which episodes the male nominees submitted after the jump.
OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) “Don Geiss, America, and Hope” (Jack struggles to find his place after hearing of the Kabletown buy out)
Steve Carell (The Office) “The Cover Up”(Michael think his girlfriend is cheating on him)
Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) “Seinfeld” (The reunion comes together and Larry reunites with Cheryl)
Matthew Morrison (Glee) “Mash Up” (Will tries to create a mash-up wedding song for Emma and Ken)
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) “The Pants Alternative” (Sheldon does a stand-up act while drunk)
Tony Shalhoub (Monk) “Mr. Monk and the End, Parts I and II” (The series finale)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Ty Burrell (Modern Family) “Up All Night” (Phil is rushed to the hospital)
Chris Colfer (Glee) “Laryngitis”(Kurt briefly attempts to appear straight as he struggles to relate with his dad)
Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) “Captain Terry’s Spray-On Hair” (Alan attempts to reverse his baldness)
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) “Family Portrait” (Mitchell deals with a pigeon while he’s home with Lily)
Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) “Girls vs. Suits” (Barney chooses between wearing suits and sleeping with a bartender)
Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) “Fizbo” (Cameron dons his old clown suit)

chris colfer had a few good episodes to choose from and i think laryngitis was his best bet. His attempts to appear straight were simultaneously hilarious, troubling, and heartbreaking.
i don’t even know about matthew morrison though. i do love glee but i don’t get why he was nominated-especially with mash-up.
Fizbo for the win!!!
Jesse Tyler Ferguson & Eric Stonestreet picked excellent episodes that show their characters at their most hysterical and their performances at a peak. with that being said, Eric Stonestreet should wind

I just think Jesse Tyer Ferguson and the pigeon was much better than Fizbo.
“Fizbo” is a good choice, but I actually might’ve gone with “Travels with Scout” (the one where Cam joins Dylan’s band.)
Then again, I have a feeling that Burrell is going to win, so it doesn’t really matter.
“Mash-Up?” REALLY? Not one of Matt Morrison’s funnier episodes. I would have gone with “Funk,” “Acafellas,” or “Bad Reputation.” His work in those episodes was much funnier; “Mash-Up” was too dramatic what with him and Emma going back and forth and his fighting with Ken. That being said, no one has a chance against Jim Parsons in “The Pants Alternative.” Sheldon Cooper for the win!
And I’m very glad Chris Colfer went with “Laryngitis.” It was the perfect juxtaposition of comedy and drama, what with “Pink Houses” and “Rose’s Turn.” He probably doesn’t have a chance, but still- perfect choice
So let me get this straight? Morrison could potentially win an Emmy for the episode in which he performed “The Thong Song”
UGH!
I second your ugh.
I like Matthew but an Emmy, and for that episode? No way!
Matthew Morrison is so awkward to watch. I cringed way too hard during the thong song, i might have pulled something.
Chris Colfer definitely has a shot, he just has some stiff competiton. If Jon Cryer wins again I will probably vomit
GO JIM PARSONS!!!!! I pray he wins, he really deserves it the most. I swear he is so underrated; in the UK he is anyway.
And I reckon Matthew Morrison deserves this particular nomination…
BAZINGA! XD as much as I like Glee, I fail to see how he really fits in here.
I agree Bazinga! I was surprised that he submitted this one though. My favorite is either the one with Leonard’s mom or the one where he doesn’t sleep and ends up in the children’s area with all the plastic balls by the end. Not sure if that one was this year though…..
I have to say that Matthew Morrison is my least favourite part of Glee. I could totally do without him although then we have no story. Oh well. GO CHRIS!
I can’t believe I actually enjoy everyone who’s nominated as a Supporting Actor, sans Cryer. I’d love to see NPH win his well overdo Emmy, but HIMYM wasn’t at it’s best this year while Modern Family and Glee had very few weak moments. So I’d say Burrell will win with a possible upset by Colfer.
You totally already said everything I was thinking. As long as Cryer doesn’t win, not that fussed as the rest are awesome.
I’m with you two on that. Anyone except Cryer would make me happy, for different reasons.
I’d really love to see NPH or Jim Parsons win this year. NPH is long overdue! Afterall the episode where Barney does the March Madness board to figure out which girl from his past was scaring off new girls was hilarious! I was suprised though at the episode submitted for NPH this year. Maybe I missed it because I don’t really remember it.
I would be happy with anyone but Tony Shalhoub and Jon Cryer to win either of these catagories. Two and a half men and Monk are 2 of the most over rated shows on TV at the moment.
Tom O’Neill reports on GoldDerby.com that Ty Burrell submitted “Game Changer” (the episode in which Phil goes childish when his wife Claire forgets his birthday present). Someone has their facts confused.
I have to admit that I rarely watch Modern Family and I saw the episode Game Changer and loved it! Very funny great work from Ty Burrell there.
Well, if I were an Emmy voter, based on these episodes Eric Stonestreet and Jim Parsons get my vote.
Glee SUCKS!
agree!
I hope Parsons wins. As someone who can’t stand that show he’s been the only thing redeemable about it the few times I’ve watched. Plus it would be nice to see someone new win for a change. It’s getting old passing out the same award to Shaloub, Carrel and Baldwin over and over again.
Carrell has never won. He’s just a perpetual slo ran. That being said it better be Parsons or David
You are wrong in your horrible comment about Steve Carrell being a “slo ran.” He is amazing and you just don’t get comedy.
I wonder whether Chris Colfer will choose the episode he cries in….oh wait he cries in every episode.A bad actor in a bad role nominated. I wonder if he was nominated because he is playing a gay bullied teen we are MEANT to sympathise with? Can we call this most victimised supporting role?
Seriously dude? 1. Being a gay teen is hard, and you cry alot. Trust me I know. 2. Chris Colfer is a great actor, being able to be hilarious and heartbreaking all at once.
Why would we sympathize with a gay teen? It’s got to be the easiest thing in the world to be. RME And he doesn’t write the character. He plays the role wonderfully and it was a great episode to submit.
are you serious? Hell, I sympathize with Kurt and I am a 32 year old strainght female. Chris Colfer can ACT.
Bad actor? Hah!
It was brilliant of Chris Colfer to submit “Laryngitis”. When I watched it I was amazed and moved by his wonderful performance as a young man trying to earn his father’s love while finding himself. Wonderful!
