'Law & Order' is officially...gone, says Dick Wolf

law-and-orderImage Credit: Virginia Sherwood/NBCSorry Law & Order fans; the long-running drama will not end up on another network now that NBC has passed on ordering a 21st season. Executive Producer Dick Wolf told the nation’s TV critics today in Beverly Hills that the show is officially dead and his focus will now be on launching Law & Order: Los Angeles on NBC this fall.

“I will confirm that it has moved to the  history books,” Wolf told reporters. “We’re extremely disappointed, but that’s business, that’s life. Every (show) is born under a death sentence. They just don’t tell you the date of execution.”

NBC also announced today that Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow) and Corey Stoll (Salt) will join the cast of the spinoff, which will premiere Sept. 29. Howard will play a district attorney, as will Alfred Molina (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time). Stoll will play a detective and partner with Skeet Ulrich (Jericho).

What are we going to do without Law & Order to watch, other than watch other Law & Orders? This is SO messed up!

Not much of a fan of this cast. Not saying they’re not talented…just actors I don’t find all that appealing. But being the big L&O fan that I am, I’ll check it out and give it a chance.

Didn’t someone At EW suggested Terrence Howard for a role on L&O:LA

  • L

Wow, a show set in Los Angeles…that’s different.

  • jared

LA is no NY. Didn’t they try to reboot Dragnet a few years ago and fail miserably. This sux.

I just hope they cast strong actresses in the starring roles. Both
Merkerson and delaGarza were great in
    L&O.

what’s Jerry orbach gonna do now? I hope he gets on one of those celebrity rehab shows or something. I can’t get enough of his hawt-ness!

    • kkm

      Jerry Orbach is dead.

  • hiro

no, he just needs a good project. a lot of people said Ben affleck’s career was dead at one time too, but he kept going.

    • KateMae1

No, he really is dead. He died in 2004.

Just hire good writers please!! The writing of these shows has gone downhill over the years… especially SVU.

is it just me, or does that fat black guy look totally out of place? like, straight up ghetto. he might be a believable bailiff at best.

    • Lol

Yeah idiot, he is the ballif when your a** becomes the prison wife of Bubba in Cell Block C.

  • Belle

NBC really needs a boot up their butts. L&O had one more season to pass Gunsmoke and they wouldn’t allow it. At least order 13 episodes. It is like being tackled on the 1 yard line.

I am bummed about this. I have learned so much about New York watching this show. It’s as much a character as the human actors, and never ceases to interest viewers. I am really not all that interested in present-day Los Angeles. It’s dirty, debt and gang-ridden, and basically passe. Now if they wanted to set it in the golden age of Hollywood, that would be another matter….

  • René De Beaumarchais

I will miss Alana. She was so pleasant to look at.

Still, I’m always psyched to see “big” (debatable) movie stars working on tv like Molina and Howard.

  • Jess

    Where are the ladies?

  • ObiHave

The show remained a class act…should’ve had a chance to exit gracefully with a final episode. You realize if you switch two letters in Law & Order you get Raw & Older…which is sorta apropos.
