There is definitely a void with Lost gone. 24 was another of my favorites, but it wasn’t like last season held my interest like it used to. I am hoping this show can bring it, because right now, the only show I will be looking forward to every week is Fringe. There is not a lot of intelligent shows on tv anymore.

Try Doctor Who. It’s more accessible than you think and really addictive. Even my sci-fi hating girlfriend watches it. (Somehow. I don’t question it.)

  • Mike

Wait, so they’re not marketing it as a sci-fi show, so sci-fi fans won’t tune in. And a lot of the people who do tune in will be turned off by the sci-fi twist at the end, since they aren’t sci-fi fans. This might backfire.

Oh, and also, structuring a show around one single mystery will also backfire.

Especially if the ratings are bad and we never get to find out what the Event actually is.

I can’t understand the stigma against sci-fi. Like eight of the ten biggest movies of all time are sci-fi in some way. Sure, there are people who lack imagination who’ll shy away because it’s sci-fi, but really, the majority of people embrace the genre. Look at Avatar, Inception, and Transformers just for three recent examples.

Considering that 94% of Americans are scientifically illiterate, it’s little surprise that sci-fi has a harder time on TV. I constantly hear the ridiculous, pathetic whining that ‘math is hard’ and ‘science is boring’. Math isn’t hard (until you get to the college level), and science isn’t boring (though learning the terminology to really talk about science is kinda dull). Biology is very common sense. But so many lazy, stupid people…. ugh.

Well the lesson *I* learned from the cancellation of FlashForward is that a network SciFi show had better not be too smart or require viewers to actually think and pay attention, or it’s headed for an early death (see also Fox’s Dollhouse and Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
If on the other hand a show is formulaic and has that cookie cutter network look, like “V”, it gets picked up.
Not very promising for SciFi fans.

Sounds like a promising candidate for my new DVR regime. I’ll record the show and if the Nitwit Broadcasting Company decides to renew it, I’ll start to watch.

this show is about the government disclosing the reality that aliens are living among us and have been for decades some are well known influencial public figures some are being held against their wishes and experimented on and exploited for their knowledge of extraterestrial technology….Please don’t think that this stuff isn’t really going on…Disclosure will be happening in the not so distant future…What are you going to do? Can you imagine? People are going to freakout.I know I will be sitting back thinking finally the big lie is exposed we arent idiots.

Given how NBC lied about Persons Unknown can we really trust them? look at how the 4400 ended also, not good signs, good ideas with a mystery build up but no execution afterwards and there will not be an ending to this series

  • Eric

For some reason the previews and hype for this show annoy me to no end. The characters standing there talking to the camera just make me hate them more and more. I’m sure this show will be interesting, but man I’ve never been so turned off by previews before.

  • Lane

Why should we give any new show a chance? The networks don’t. Even if it’s a great show I’ll get invested in Oct and Nov and then not see it again until Mar when it loses all of it’s steam. If it makes it to a second season, I’ll Hulu it next summer and then start watching next fall.

  • klenker

Well, I’m certainly not going to entertain another show that fails to satisfy or is abruptly cancelled.

If after a fruitful run of seasons and a satisfactory ending, I will seek to obtain a copy. I wish I had done that with lost, I could have saved all that wasted time hoping it would explain the things it alluded to, and not simply fob off a rubbish ending with a box of tisues.

  • my

actually I bet trhey wish it was Flashforward which debut with much better ratings. The EVENT is already slipping

  • Rick Celis

    The show should stay canceled.

  • Marie

Love The Event, Chuck and The Cape really getting into these shows. Don’t cancel.
