Image Credit: Rick Stephens/PR PhotosSean Young is extending her stay on The Young and the Restless as the barmaid Meggie who attempted to pick up on Victor, EW has learned exclusively. Young — who already appeared in five episodes of Y&R – will return July 14 and is expected to stick around through August.
Before joining the sudser in May, Young said this of her daytime debut: “Getting the chance to work with my dear friend Eric Braeden, one of the true gentlemen in entertainment, was certainly a deciding factor for me, as well as wanting to get back to work after taking a few years off to raise my kids.” Young and Braeden previously worked together on the Civil War drama The Man Who Came Back in 2007.
Young’s decision to stay in Genoa City underscores a promising trend in daytime dramas: A slew of celebs have booked gigs on the soaps ever since James Franco (Pineapple Express) star began moonlighting on General Hospital last November (he’s back on the show through August as a bad boy performing artist named Franco). Julianne Moore (As the World Turns), Michael Nouri (All My Children), and Vanessa Marcil (GH) all announced sudser stints this year, as did David Hasselhoff and Eric Roberts on The Young and the Restless.
“It’s a refreshing change,” Roberts tells EW exclusively about his two-month run starting July 12. “There’s a misconception that an actor who’s been nominated for an Oscar has his pick of roles. Not true. I finally decided to go where I was wanted. The other refreshing change is this role Y&R gave me to play. He’s actually got living brain cells! I play a smart, very well-educated guy. Can’t say if he’s a bad guy or a good guy, cause I’m giving nothing away… But what I love about it is that he’s a different character from most of the characters you’re used to seeing me play. The writing’s great, as is the cast.”
