Question: Though I can’t imagine The Office without Michael Scott, I’m more concerned about Holly and Michael getting their much-needed reunion before he bids adieu. Any chance this will happen? —Meaghan
Ausiello:
I’d say there’s a very good chance considering the fact that [exclusive scoop alert!] Amy Ryan (a.k.a. Holly) is not only returning to The Office, but will be playing a sizable role in the show’s upcoming seventh season. “We set her return up in the finale, so it would be the biggest [cop-out] of all time if we didn’t [follow through] on it,” says coexec producer and cast member Mindy Kaling. “She’s definitely coming back.”

Question: How can I get your autograph? —Danny
Ausiello:
You can bring a Sharpie to Comic-Con next week and follow the scent of Diet Raspberry Snapple and blue PVC.

Question: I love True Blood. I love Eric. Scoop, please. —Angi
Ausiello:
Is it too soon to be talking about the finale? No? Cool. Exec producer Alan Ball tells me that there will be a “lot of Bill-Sookie-Eric stuff” in the season 3 finale. “It involves blood, it involves trust, and it does not go where we expect it to go.” READ FULL STORY »

Piers Morgan: Will he replace Larry King?

Categories: Television, TV Biz

Will Piers Morgan be the next CNN host to help stars rehabilitate their images? Sources who spoke to the New York Times seem to indicate the British interviewer has a future on the news cabler. Word is the America’s Got Talent judge has begun serious talks to replace Larry King, who recently announced plans to retire this fall. An arrangement still needs to be ironed out between CNN and NBC, which has Morgan under contract to host the talent show through 2013.

One insider stresses that King is only in second position with CNN, meaning that a deal may still not happen. Still, the hire of Morgan could be a boon to CNN: The 45-year-old Brit has been hosting Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on the British network ITV for the last year. He previously edited The Daily Mirror.

Meanwhile, NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker was asked about the deal on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today and said the following, “Piers will continue on America’s Got Talent for the next three years. That I can tell you. Having said that, I can also tell you he has approached us about asking us to do another job as well and those conversations are continuing.”

'Terra Nova': No sneak peek planned for Comic Con

jason-omaraImage Credit: Bobby Bank/WireImage.comFanboys who were eager to get a sneak peek of Fox’s midseason drama Terra Nova – the next series from Brannon Braga (24, FlashForward) and David Fury (Lost, Angel) – will have to wait a little longer: 20th Century Fox TV has decided not to unveil the time-traveling drama at Comic Con next week, EW has learned.

Since production on the Jason O’Mara starrer isn’t expected to start until September, the producers don’t have any footage to show the fans in San Diego. Plus, the writers don’t want to reveal too much about the high-concept series, which Fury promises will have an “ongoing mythology.” The action in Terra Nova takes place 100 years in the future and focuses on a family that travels back to the prehistoric era. Steven Spielberg is one of the executive producers.

“There are a lot of surprises, a lot of reveals that come out throughout the course of season,” Fury tells EW. “If we talk about the more interesting aspects of the show now, we’re afraid we’ll ruin the surprise for the audience. In this case, everything is moving along steadily, the script has been well-received. We just don’t have anything to wow anyone with. It’s still in the preliminary stage, It’s a huge undertaking.”

Among the hurdles for the massive project, which has already received a 13-episode commitment from Fox, is nailing down a location. There was some talk about shooting the drama in Australia but the studio is also considering locales in Hawaii and even the mainland. The drama will also feature prehistoric creatures. “There will be dinosaurs that have never been seen before,” promises Fury. “They’ve learned so much since the days of Jurassic Park.”

Adds Braga, “We are presenting a really cool show with a wonderous primeval world. There are not just dinosaurs. There is a whole ecosystem. There will be plenty of adventures and effects, but this is a show about the characters, the humans.”

Casting is still underway for the drama, which is expected to bow in the spring. O’Mara (Life on Mars) will play Jim Shannon, whose family is part of a group of settlers who travel back in time. The show’s auspices read like a who’s who in Hollywood: Besides Braga, Fury and Spielberg, other executive producers include ex-Fox Chairman Peter Chernin, agent-turned-producer Aaron Kaplan, Craig Silverstein (Bones) and Kelly Marcel.
