Sources confirm to me exclusively that Courtney Ford — a.k.a. Trinity’s daughter on Dexter — has landed the potentially recurring role of Vanessa, a grad student at Duke who helps Damon, Alaric, and Elena go through Isobel’s old research.
At Comic-Con last month, exec producer Kevin Williamson hinted that the character may be harboring a secret or two. “She’s not without her own intrigue,” he told me. “It’ll be a nice little part for someone. And it’s a part that could evolve into this massive story line or we could gut her like a fish.”
God bless Kevin Williamson and his awesome sound bites.

Awesome! I’ve been watching VD this summer. Now I am really looking forward to Season 2. Courtney Ford was incredibly hot on Dexter. She mad a memorable appearance on Human Target as well.
Fantastic choice. Can’t wait to see her on my new favorite show!
Hmm… I wasn’t that crazy on her in “Dexter.” Think they could have done better.
I would agree based on the season up to episode 9 when the big reveal was made, but after the big reveal, I think she knocked it out of the park with her newly interesting character.
Hmm I agree. She didn’t really do it for me on Dexter but I think that was the irritating character she’s portrayed. She did pretty well with the material they gave her, especially in the end.
She was also on NCIS recently too. Not too memorable though.
LOVE her, good casting!
I agree 100%
Besides Dexter, I also enjoyed her appearance on Human Target last season.
True, they suprised me on Human Traget when it turned out she was the bad guy
Don’t know her, but if the “powers that be” think she is good enough for Vampire Diaries (my favorite show), then I’ll give her a chance.
Wonder what her character’s”secret” will be?
Yeah, haven’t seen her either, but I’ll save judgment until I actually see the character in action. I’m still leaning towards gutting her like a fish though.
isn’t she married to Brandon Routh, Shaw from Chuck? I wonder what her secret is…from what I saw of Kevin’s interview at Comic-Con, this could be a very cool role.
Yes, she’s married to Routh. She’s also the step-sister of Roberto Orci and J.R. Orci. That could have something to do with it.
A shame she’s on a network TV show… she was nekkid A LOT on Dexter and it was very enjoyable.
Awesome! Loved to hate her on Dexter. And she was in Grey’s recently. She will fit in perfectly with VD. Dark and twisty and gorgeous
Vicky from one of How I Met Your Mother’s best episodes – “The Naked Man”!
Thank you! I couldn’t figure out where I recognized her from, I don’t watch the other shows mentioned.
Thank God! Nina Dobrev is nice and all but kinda getting bored of two great looking guys fighting over her. Besides on interviews lately she seems a little to high on herself. On her guess she wanted a free trip to some resort she advertised for. Doesn’t she get enough free designer clothes and trips. They fans that watch the show can’t afford expensive trips. Like the VD’S just like I said really getting sick of Nina and the way she refers to Ian and Paul as, “HER BOYS”. Can only imagine the diva crap she pulls with the female cast.
ON HER TWITTER IS WHAT I MEANT TO SAY.
janet, get over yourself.
ug…she was so annoying on dexter.
Worst. Actress. EVER.
Please – am I the only one who noticed she was basically naked on DEXTER to distract us from the fact that the woman can’t act. The Season 4 DVD set will be bearable only by fast-forwarding through her scenes.
Wow, that was unnecessarily catty.
You’re in the minority.
She was FANTASTIC on Dexter.
So much emotion as John Lithgow’s troubled daughter. I totally cried during her last scene.
Disappointing decision to give away a crucial plot point in the second sentence (which is hard to avoid seeing as it pops up on the EW Home Page). Too bad for all those people waiting for Season 4′s release on DVD later this month..
It’s not as bad as when EW posted a story about a ‘departed’ Dexter alum being on another popular show, straight after said alum died. That was the major twist and it was a headline on the main page of EW – far away from any spoiler column let alone tv column. That really freaking sucked and spoiled it for me big-time!
Ummm… I’m all for avoiding spoilers, but ‘Dexter’ wrapped it’s season 8 MONTHS ago. Are you suggesting the entire world waits to discuss on the interweb until every last person has seen the DVDs?
Exactly!!! Not everyone that follows Dexter subscribes to Showtime. That’s the second major spoiler that I’ve had forced on me for this season. It’s difficult to believe that this is a professional writer doing this.
