Emmys 2010: How Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane Lynch and others hope to earn the comedy actress statue

insider-emmy-awardsImage Credit: Cliff Lipson/CBS; Phil Caruso/Showtime ; Ondrea Barbe/CBS; Ali Goldstein/NBC; Patrick Ecclesine/FoxWill Glee’s Lea Michele triumph over 30 Rock’s Tina Fey with an episode that showcases one of her best musical performances of the season? Will Two and A Half Men’s Holland Taylor beat out the Emmy worthy Jane Lynch, who earned a nomination for guest-starring in the same CBS comedy?

We found out which episodes the actresses — and supporting ones — are submitting for consideration in the comedy categories. Nominees send their episodes to a select group of TV Academy members/volunteers, who then screen the submissions at home. Ballots are due back to Ernst & Young by Aug. 17; the Emmys will air Aug. 29. See which episodes the female nominees submitted after the jump.

Of all the supporting noms, Julie Bowen deserves it. As talented as Jane Lynch is, I hope the voters do not give it to her for the simple reason Glee should not be in the comedy category.

    • Sara

I believe the comedy category encases music and variety, as well. Do you think Glee belongs in drama?

    • Philip

Isn’t this category called Musical or Comedy, like it is for movies at the Golden Globes?

      • Cordy

No. that is just the golden globes I believe

    • E.B. Berman

Even if you think Glee shouldn’t be in the Comedy category, how can you argue the Jane Lynch’s performance doesn’t? You really think she should be competing for Best Performance – Drama?

    • Frank

Glee is as much of a comedy as it is a drama. It is better suited in the coemdy genre than any where else. Nurse Jackie isn’t exactly a comedy either.

  • paige

OMG Barkley!!! i wonder if this is the best episode that Sofia acted it- but I do know it had her best reactions… Claire’s episode where she gets stuck in the elevator was the one i was hoping she’d submit, she was excellet in that. Also, the telethon episode for P&R is another one that showed Amy Poehler’s strength. Not too sure that the Madonna episode was the best that Jane Lynch had to offer though…

    • Ceballos

      I agree.

The “Modern Family” ladies DEFINITELY submitted the episodes that showcased them the best. (Gloria’s reactions to Barkley were gold.) Also, Poehler’s rant about “Friends” in “Telethon” was Emmy-worthy in and of itself. Besides those, I also like Fey’s choice, since her awkwardness while filming the “Dealbreakers” opening credit sequence had me rolling.

I’m also with you on Lynch – I know the “Madonna” episode was really famous, and that there were about a dozen good choices for Lynch to pick from – but I’m not sure I would’ve gone with that one. She’s been funnier than she was during that episode. Or if she wanted to showcase her “dramatic acting” chops, she could’ve gone with the one where Sue has scenes with her sister.

    • paige

I really do not want Edie Falco to win. Its more of a dramatic role than comedic. The show may be a “dark comedy” or a “dramedy”, but Edie Falco is definately playing it as drama. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Lea Michele- those are my choices. I wouldve gone for Toni Collette but the second season was not very good and her best personality “T” was barely in it!

  • Jack

Seriously, EW? The episodes submitted have been known for weeks now. Get on your game!

I personally hope Amy wins, but I would be pleased as pie with Lea Michele taking home the statue.

  • Torrence5

Jane Lynch deserves the Emmy hands down for this season of “Glee” her performance was funny & always entertaining. Holland Taylor would be a well deserving – sweet surprise.

  • flaids

God, why don’t we start sacrificing our children in the name of Glee. that show is a piece of garbage that pu$$ies lap up like pudding because EW tells them its geh enough.

    • Tim

I dunno about all that. I just know the show has never been funny.

    • Sarina

Uuuummm…you are aware that not everyone likes the same things, right? I’m pretty sure you probably watch things that I think are God awful, but I don’t think any less of you because of it. Get over yourself.

    • Frank

calm down, don’t fret becasue others like something you don’t get.

  • Bobby’s Robot

Jane Lynch should have submitted ‘Wheels’

    • Woot

Just rewatching Wheels and Power of Modanna, I think she made a good choice. Power of Modanna showed off her singing with Vouge, and in that video it also showcased her more subtle humor. Also throughout that episode she was consistently hilarious. Wheels did have that sublime moment with her sister, but that wasn’t exactly comedic.

  • GoMe!

Jane Krakowski submitted the PERFECT episode! Everyone thought she’d send “Anna Howard Shaw Day”, but JK submitted very wisely. I think Jane Lynch deserves the Emmy, but I wouldn’t mind if Jane Krakowski won because of her episode choice.

    • Saulo

I think Matt Hubbard (who submitted Anna Howard Shaw Day) will win his second consecutive Emmy (Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series) this year.

  • TorontoTom

I agree that Jane Krakowski should get it. She’s consistently hilarious on 30 Rock. Loved the Gossip Girl “audition”. Also liked her episode with her stalker breaking up with her (“I knew it would end but somehow I thought it’d be with me in the trunk of a rental car at the airport…”)

    • Woot

“Are you stalking someone else? It’s one of those Glee kids isn’t it!?”

  • Will

    Pls let Amy get it.

    Jane L is sooo overrated.

I will never understand a world where Krakowski gets a nom but Jenna Fischer doesn’t. 30 Rock must put out for the Emmys

  • Ryan

Jane Krakowski really deserves an award for 30 Rock this year, I am sure she won’t, but she was fantastic as always. Especially in this episode where she tried emulated the aging style of her acting idol Madonna… LOL.

  • Irwin

Slam dunk for Jane Lynch! She deserves both Emmys. Her psychiatrist bit in 2-1/2 Men is unbelievable. Julie Bowen is ok, but that’s it, likewise for Sofia. Holland Taylor is quite deserving, but Jane is in a class of her own as Sue.

  • billy b

say what you will about glee, but jane is definitely the best thing from that show. she kills everytime. thought, i don’t know if the madonna episode is a good showcase for her work. i thought the episode “wheels” was by far her best episode, where you discover that she has a sister who has down syndrome. it was both hilarious and touching. besides the rapid fire madonna idolation, the episode its self was pretty weak and the vogue video was neither new, funny, or amusing. it was really awkward. definitely the most overhyped glee episode, though not the best (that would be sections) on a very uneven season. though i love sophia… but jane had a pretty consistant and strong performances all year long. as for best actress, i hope amy takes it home. she is like male version of michael from the office, with a heart of gold. thought i wish they would have submitted the season finally, which really captures her character and spirit. fingers crossed.

    • Jim

I don’t find Jna ehte best think aobut glee, I prefer Chris and Lea. Jane is great but a little Sue goes a long way and they over do it sometimes. And she does not need to be singing.

  • Ami

I love Lea Michele and Glee, but I think that given the episode submitted, she’s nominated for her singing, not her comedic talent.

    • Joe

Lea should have submitted Ballad. Funny, great song too.

  • Edmonton Girl

They are all wonderful, I think, but I do love Jane Lynch. Sue is the voice of my evil twin – she says the most ridiculous things with complete and total conviction.
