'True Blood' season finale scoop: Sookie mulls life after [spoiler alert]!

True Blood‘s third-season finale airs on Sept. 12, and HBO has just released the perfect appetite-whetter. An extremely spoilery description of the Alan Ball-penned episode!

“Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) grapples with his conscience while plotting his perfect revenge against Russell (Denis O’Hare). Fed up with being “vampire crack,” Sookie (Anna Paquin) considers a new life without Bill (Stephen Moyer)—or any other vampire.  Tara (Rutina Wesley) discovers some surprising news about Sam (Sam Trammell), whose rage resurfaces upon learning of Tommy’s (Marshall Allan) latest transgression. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) finds a new calling after warning Crystal’s (Lindsay Pulsipher) family about an impending drug raid. Plagued by visions, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) turns to Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) for help, and learns his boyfriend has more to offer than companionship. Hoyt (Jim Parrack) hopes for a future with Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), spurning Maxine’s (Dale Raoul) pleas to wed Summer (Melissa Rauch).”

      • rachel

glee isn’t on right now and true blood is.

      • ythu

        I LOVE YOU RACHEL

      • jasper

        ythu is a loser.

      • courtney

because true blood is like soooooo much better, and im a fan of glee.

      • Liz

Dude EW posts about Glee all the time and PS Glee isn’t that great.

      • Hayley

ythu, everyone is right. Glee is NOT on right now. If Ausiello has scoop about Glee he would post it. Also is your so desperate for Glee scoop why are you commenting about True Blood scoop and if you don’t like it deal with it. You just wasted time typing your opinion that no one is going to care about.

      • L

        glee sucks

      • Jersey Jeff

        Please don’t feed the Troll.

      • STL

GLEE SUCKS!! That’s why. Just keeping it real. Sorry.

      • natasha

I like glee, but there is plenty of glee scoop, like way too much to the point i don’t need to watch the episodes, I can just read scoop.

Plus, glee scoop is usually blank famous person will be on glee! not anything actually interesting with the characters.

    • marctiley

      Sookie is a fairy…oops.

      • Peter Popper

        You made me giggle.

  • aleksa

Ooh, the Lafayette spoiler sounds interesting….

    • Sarah

I liked that he “turns to Jesus” (I’m reading that name as English and not Spanish, lol).

      • Vince from NYC

HA! I did the same thing. I was like Lafayette is getting religious? Then I saw the actor’s name.. The sad part is it’s the second time it’s happened to me where I thought they were referring to big JC.

      • LR

        did the same thing

  • Shannika

Nice Birthday present for me. Season Finale of True Blood!

    • Stephanie

Happy Birthday! Mines tomorrow and I’m right there with ya. Thanks for the b-day gift Ausiello!

      • aleksa

I’m two days after you! Happy birthday to everyone! :)

  • Steph

Tara finally learns about Sam, YAY! This should be interesting and hopefully a little humorous!

  • Jack

True Blood season 3 has been absolutely brilliant so far. Much better than last season.

    • who cares

brilliant might be pushing it, but its entertaining, and much better than last season.

      • Ted

I agree with Jack, it is brilliant this season.

      • Kate

I agree with Jack on this. It has been absolutely brilliant. Especially the King of Mississippi storyline.

      • Kim

I too agree that this season has been brilliant so far!

      • Coco

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it brilliant, but it is much better than last season. I hope next season they streamline a bit more, but Dennis O’Hare has been a revelation. Please Alan Ball keep him as long as possible.

      • Jason

I’d have to agree with Brilliant, as well. Last season was good, but the only problem is that it took too long for the Maryanne storyline to get off of the ground. This season, each story is off and running, and we’re not having to wait for the finale for excitement. 2 people died last episode, Sookie was almost #3, and Bill was a momentary daywalker – how cool is that?!!! I only have one complaint about this season: everyone is finding out why the Queen is interested in Sookie, except the audience. I’ll take a big reveal, any time now.

    • Jenny

Brilliant is this last season of Dexter. John Lithgow as Trinity was scarier than any Vamp on True Blood.

      • Merideth

Totally agree. True Blood is great fun, but no show or villain can match the brilliance of the 4th season of Dexter featuring the Trinity Killer.

      • Jeff

Russell Edgington is easily just as scary and far more graphic as evidenced by his slicing the head of the magister.

    • Jerra

      Jack – DITTO!

  • lory

Thank god she will dump bill he is annoying as hell beside being jerk & a liar now that’s the sookie that we knew from season 1 independant & strong !!! Glad that jessica & hoyt are making it!! and eric come on go kill Russel

    • ShariG

You are soooooo wrong about Bill. He has never been a jerk to Sookie. Everything he does he does because he loves her. He may have been sent by Sophie to gain information about her family originally, but he fell in love with her. I agree with Alan Ball. They are soulmates and I really hope they are back together soon. They light up the screen together. I agree about Jessica and Hoyt though. They are cute together, both kind of innocent in their own ways.

      • michelle

if they go by the books that won’t happen — she’s so much better w/eric!!! :)

      • sandy

with bill she is just a screamy and whiny little kid… sookie needs to be more independant like the sookie in the books… she totally reminds me of that lovesick little girl Bella…

    • Ray

Wasn’t she *with* Bill in season one? And they have been apart and Bill has broken up with her this season so there goes your ridiculous theory that Bill is the cause of her whininess and rashness. Because he isn’t. That’s all Sookie and I guarantee you she’ll be the same way with your beloved Eric.

  • Kate

I just hope we don’t have to meet Quinn, that was a waste of time and energy in the books.

    • kori

      Quinn story line was terrible!!!

    • Zoe

AGREED. Never understood Harris’s multi-book devotion to Quinn.

    • Tara

Sorry, don’t agree 100%. A bit much in some instances, perhaps, but a change of pace and I liked it.

      • ShariG

I liked Quinn, too. Still think Sookie belongs with Bill ultimately, but Quinn was interesting and was a nice change of pace.

      • KarenL

Spoiler alert: Sorry but I have to disagree about Bill and Sookie. I don’t think Sookie should be with Bill at all. I think that his “love” for her/motives are very much driven by her possessing some of the intoxicating effects of a fairy, which took hold of him after he fed on her the first time. I actually think this is something that Alan Ball picked up on and is alluding to in the teasers for the finale with the phrase “vampire crack”. I could be wrong and I hate how weak they portray Sookie in the show with her running back to Bill after everything so I really hope they give her character some more strength in the these last few episodes.

    • Tara

POSSIBLE SPOILERS – DONT READ AND DONT COMPLAIN IF YOU DO -

I was also thinking about this the other night, the whole Sam/Tommy/Family plot line might be the way they actually bring him into the picture….

    • Mel

Agreed! I found Quinn really, really dull. I do hope, though, that Amelia gets to come around eventually.

      • sandy

Amelia was so fun… she was the perfect contrast for Sookie :) and I agree about Quinn… Charlaine only brought him in because she needed someone to get between Sookie and Eric…

      • Nikki

I disagree. I thought the Quinn storyline was a nice reprieve from the Eric/Bill storylines. If she is going to write so many books, she truly needs to add many diverse characters and such. I love Eric relationship, but I really don’t think she’s going to end up with a vamp unless she becomes one or turns out to be immortal. Sorry, but she should definitely end up with someone who she could have a healthier relationship with. I know its all fantasy, but I think she should actually end up with a fairy or were.

  • Jayma

True Blood has been abosultely great this season. Very Buffyesque.

    • Jeff

      I agree completely

  • Beverly

I was hoping to see some Sookie/Eric before this season’s end :(

    • lory

me too i love Eric he’s the best :)

      • Liz

I love book-Eric. I don’t love TV-Eric. I think TV Eric is just a douche and has none of the charm of book-Eric.

      • ShariG

I agree with Liz. But, even though I loved book Eric, I didn’t love him with Sookie. TV Eric needs to be more likeable before they pair him with Sookie. Right now he is ruthless and arrogant. Regardless, I hope that Sookie eventually realizes that Eric is really interested in Eric. Bill is the one who truly loves her.

    • sandy

I was hoping that too but i believe that we won’t get it…

  • STE

Excited to see how Tara finds out about Sam. also happy Summer sticks around- she’s funny as hell. I knew Hoyt’s Mom would like her. Not so thrilled with Sookie considering life without Bill, but I know she’ll come to her senses…I hope! Great season so far!

  • Stephanie

WTF?? That show just came back on and the season finale is that close? I just don’t understand!!!!

    • aleksa

I think their season is twelve episodes.

    • Jack2211

Agreed. And it’s a good thing. The episodes themselves fly by. Funny thing is that last season felt like 27 times as long (if I never see a boring bon temps townwide orgy again it will be too soon — Sookie’s soft core fairy party vision last week had me worried).

    • nacho mama

seriously, I just had my HBO turned back on and the season is only 3 mos long! And on top of that, each episode isn’t always a full hour.

      • Jessica

It’s true the I noticed that during the last episode, they started about 5 minutes late and ended six minutes earlier, it may not seem like a lot but added up all together and its 11 minutes that were suppose to be on air time …. either the way the episode was great but I got a little mad a HBO and AB when I noticed they were cutting time.

  • sassylassie1018

I can do without the Eric/Sookie thing. He’s not the settle down type and he would lose his edge. I like him the way he is. Love Bill, especially the bad a#& Bill. Russell is awesome and Jason is a freakin bore.

    • ShariG

I agree with both observations. I like ruthless Eric and I love romantic, but still bad a#& Bill. I actually like Jason though. He is pretty funny at times but my favorite is when he has moments of sensitivity, as rear as they are. Very funny.

    • Mia

Sookie should just stay single, she might become tolerable then. I don’t find Bill bada**, just annoying. He acts all self-righteous but he’s as selfish and twisted as Lorena. He cares about no one but Sookie and that is not an admirable trait.

  • Emily

Eric seems to be always ¨seeking revenge¨ this season- really annoying- uh, more sookie + eric PLEASE

  • Emma

Thanks for the scoop! I’m really enjoying this season – except for the Sam and Tara storylines (not a big fan of these characters and I find them extra annoying these days). I’m really digging Eric, Pam and Russell’s storyline. Can’t wait to find out what’s in store for Pam.

  • TVDIVA

I hope they keep Russell and Talbot around for another season. Dennis O’Hare is menacing and mesmerizing to watch and the Talbot character is a hoot!

    • sandy

i think Talbot is a piece of the revenge plan… russell killed erics family and now eric will kill russells…

    • Mia

I’m in the minority but I find Russell just tedious. Talbot is entertaining though.
