Exclusive: The CW plotting 'One Tree Hill'/'Life Unexpected' crossover event!

one-tree-unexpectedImage Credit: Frank Ockenfels/The CW; Richard Phibbs/The CWTwo One Tree Hill characters are about to pay an unexpected visit to Portland.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that new Tuesday companions One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected will stage a crossover this fall when OTH songbirds Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Mia (Kate Voegele) guest-star on the Oct. 12 episode of LUX.

From a creative standpoint, the stunt actually makes sense. Haley and Mia will travel to Portland to perform at a music festival sponsored by Cate’s (Shiri Appleby) radio station. “Haley and Cate are surprised to learn that they share a similar back story [as] mothers,” teases an insider.

Business-wise, The CW is no doubt hoping some of OTH‘s 3 million viewers will check out LUX.

Thoughts? Are you cool with Tree Hill invading LUX‘s turf—particularly if it exposes more eyeballs to the sophomore gem? Or is this the case of two great tastes (okay, one great taste and one mediocre taste) that don’t go great together? Sound off below!

This is cool! I’m looking forward to this, especially since I watch both shows.

    • lee

kim! did you see that last my boys episode ;)

      • mary q contrary

        I’m an ugly ho.

    • Jason

Love it. CW, of all nets, needs to do more of this. Crossovers and stunt casting…anything to keep the buzz traveling. Think outside the box. Oh, and how about making up your mind about “HMS.” It’s only been, what…9 months of indecision? You could’ve birthed an entire network by now. You have no midseason backup, so it’s a no-brainer.

    • yummycupcake

absolutely disagree. oth is a subpar show at best. that’s like having the cast of Charmed on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Shudder to think.

      • Brody

…but Life Unexpected is no Buffy.

      • yummycupcake

Brody: You are right, it’s no Buffy, but it’s still a better show than OTH.

      • Brody

Hmm… I’d say OTH in its prime was better than LUX, but LUX is better than what OTH has become.

    • lorna

OTH should have been canceled and Melrose renewed. I used to love OTH but it’s horrible, esp. without my Pey Pey.

  • Bee

love crossovers. and this sounds really cool actually. i don’t watch life unexpected, but will definitely be checking it out then.

  • Leonie

I think it’s cool, but I would have hoped, that Brooke went with them… :-(
    Thanks for the news though!

  • WatchesEverything

    Crossover Unexpected.

    • Becca

      hahahaha

    • Alyssa

hahahahaha O that was a good one!

  • Elissa

oh boy…I like both shows and yes the story makes sense but…I’m not sure if this is a good idea? I’m anxious to see this episode..and how many people from OTH tune in to LUX.

    • Jen

      I DO! Both are awesome!

  • teendramawhore

3 million viewers for OTH? Ha. Not even close for nearly all of last season.

    • Mary

Yeah, Ausiello must be smoking that stuff. Supernatural and Smallville get way more viewers then One Tree Hill, and they don’t even get three moillion!

      • Kris

I wouldn’t say WAY more. Supernatural/Smallville averaged like 2.5 million and One Tree Hill averaged about 2.2 million so if that’s WAY more to you.

    • Bee

yes well OTH is in it’s 7th season. and is without two of it’s 5 main cast members, who are arguably the two most important members. so in that respect, OTH’s ratings are phenomenal. and it often pulled 3 million+ before then. and smallville and OTH usually had the same viewers last season. if anything, one would do slightly better one week and the other would do slightly better the next.

      • Meg

Not true! Smallville had way more viewers on a Friday night(A much more difficult night), and when dvr is factored in it increase a whole lot! There is nothing phenomenal about OTH’s rating. I guess they are good or decent for The CW, but The CW is a sinking ship.

  • Michael

Makes the most sense, I guess… except for maybe TVD and SPN…or even 90210/GG. Never mind that’s like 80% of The CW’s shows, they could all crossover.

    • Liz

90210 and GG could never crossover. GG is like nuclear war and 90210 is like a pillow fight. They are totally different calibers/tones of show.

      • Brody

GG and Nikita could cross over. Different subject matter, but I think the characters could exist in the same universe.

  • Jenny

Stopped watching both of these shows.

  • Kyle

Looks like I actually will tune in for ONE episode of One Tree Hill this Season then.

    • Kris

It’s an episode of LUX not OTH.

  • Kim

I love both shows and I’m very okay with this. :)

  • Maddy

Wait, which one is the mediocre taste?

    • Jenny

I’m guessing Life Unexpected. Such a bore. Wait, could be One Tree Hill. Wait, that went down the hill once CMM left the show. Both shows suck.

      • Meg

Michael has made it pretty clear in the past he doesn’t care for One Tree Hill. It’s pretty obvious “the great taste” is Life Unexpected.

      • Julia77

Then why do you care to post??!!
        Don’t waste time!!!
        That’s mediocre

    • Kris

To me, OTH is the great taste. I can’t get enough of that amzing show. Michael has made it very clear that he hates One Tree Hill though so I guess to him Lux (aka the boring show where nothing ever happens) is great but then again, he likes The Good Wife too so I don’t exactly trust his judgement.

      • Sarah

Nah, I have to agree with Michael on this one. He’s actually being generous calling OTH mediocre taste, because he’s written before about how much he doesn’t like it. One Tree Hill peaked in season four, and it’s been beating a dead horse ever since. It’s the new 7th Heaven. Life Unexpected is a well written show with solid acting, and if you don’t like it your loss.

      • lorna

My fave season was s2, OTH sucked after Lucas’s fake wedding.

  • Peter

    This is genius. Seriously.
    I love both shows.

  • Sarah

actually it’s amazing can’t wait to see that.now I’m gonna watch LUX

  • NikkiHolly

i like it. it makes sense and the story actually sounds kinda good. and if it helps LUX stay on the air, it’s definitely worth a shot.

  • Daniluccia

Is this what CW came up with to bring up BOTH show’s ratings? Really? I stopped watching OTH since the end of its 6 season and Life Unexpected is just an anonymous show to me.

    • Kris

How will it bring up OTH ratings when it won be on One Tree Hill and the whole ploy relies on the stars of OTH to bring up the ratings?
