Exclusive: 'Chuck' promotes Gen. Beckman (a.k.a. Bonita Friedericy)

Tags: , , News, Scoop

chuck-bonita-generalChuck is giving General Beckman the equivalent of a 21-gun salute: a promotion to series regular!

Exec producers Chris Fedak and Josh Schwartz confirm to me exclusively that Bonita Friedericy—whose stern taskmistress has guided Team Bartowski for the past three seasons—has been bumped up to a full-time cast member.

“She’s an incredibly important part of the show,” says Fedak. “She’s like the Charlie to Charlie’s Angels.”

The upgrade means that viewers will see more of Beckman—literally and figuratively—in season 4. “We’ll see her legs in the first episode,” Fedak reveals with a chuckle. “She gets to walk around.”

Speaking of fraktacular Chuck developments, NBC has released the first promo of the new season—and it features a first look at Linda Hamilton as Ma Bartowski. Even better: It’s embedded below!

  • M

    Great! I love The General!

  • Michael

CHUCK is non-stop AWESOME news for season 4. This season you can just tell they’re gonna bring it! Cannot wait!!!

  • Eduardo

    This will be EPIC!

    • Jeremy W.

What would be epic is if they brought in Jack Black and Kyle Gass as Large Mart employees who challenge Jeffster to a battle of the bands for a spot on a local cable access show. (Good Morning, Burbank!)

      Tenacious D vs. Jeffster!

      That would be epic!

  • Briana

    HURRY UP SEASON 4!

  • Ryan

Geez its about time! I hate when shows have somebody in every single episode and don’t make them a series regular. I’m looking at you 24 who took forever to promote Tony, Michelle and Chloe and at you Friday Night Lights who has not made Buddy a main cast member.

    • Stephanie

Money, baby. It’s all about the almighty dollar.

    • Neil

Actually Tony got bumped up to series regular after a single season. Same with Michelle. Chloe took a bit with two recurring seasons first (probably would’ve been sooner if MLR hadn’t been sidetracked with Kelsey Grammer’s short-lived sketch comedy show). Wayne Palmer took three seasons to get his name in the main cast. Milo appeared in season 1 but didn’t get his name in until season SIX. Aaron Pierce and Mike Novick NEVER got the recognition they deserve.

Love General Beckman!! Nice to see a woman with some power!!!

  • May

I love how Chuck’s big enough to get a spot on the front page of EW.com so many times! I LOVE this show!

    • it’s not that big; it just has a rabid fanbase on the internet and EW knows they’ll get a lot of views for their story.

      • Dbe

That may be true but the exposure it provides is never a bad thing. Also if EW knows this, they should put this amazing cast on the cover of their magazine already.

      • Sonja

        dont pop the bubble!

  • Jesse

I like the General, but I’d trade her, Jeff, Lester, and Big Mike to get Anna Wu back as a regular. *sad face*

    • Allie

Yes, bring back Anna Wu! Love her, but she was always waaay too good for Morgan!

    • BDaddyDL

There is a reason Anna is not back for a lot this season, and the reason is: Alex.

  • Stephanie

It was a crap promo, but that can’t stop my love for all things Chuck. Go Gen. Beckman!

    • Sarah El

NBC was too busy trying to make people care about The Event and their other new shows to give most of the returning shows much airtime. BUT yes, I still love Chuck even if NBC doesn’t seem to show quite the same affection for its longest-running non-reality/sitcom/Law & Order TV show (one of… 7 this coming season).

      • lol @ your qualifiers

  • Conor

    Fully Deserved!!
    Beckman was Awesome last season

  • Michelle

This season sounds epic. Love the General!
