Breaking: 'The Mentalist' snags Eric Winter to play [spoiler alert]

eric-winterImage Credit: Albert L. Ortega/PR PhotosI think I should start charging a fee.

Two weeks after I publicly endorsed Eric Winter to play Van Pelt’s new love interest on The Mentalist, the CBS drama has cast the Brothers & Sisters hottie in that very role.

Winter’s character, Craig O’Laughlin, is described as a football player-turned-FBI guy who strikes up a flirtation with Amanda Righetti’s Rigsby-crushing agent.

Thoughts on this casting? Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Thumbs sideways? And do you think I deserve a commission—and, if so, what percentage? (As a frame of reference, I collected a cool .00001 percent for Terrence Howard’s LOLA deal.) Sound off below!

    You called it.

You really should start charging a consult fee. This is seriously like the 3rd or 4th name you’ve mentioned for a role that’s come to fruition…in the last what…3 months? Just awesome. How do I get your job? ;)

  • pr

    yep you should be paid.
but what is up with cbs and the changes on their shows. first the cast change on CM now taking Van Pelt from Rigsby, i was hoping they would get back together some how. i really do not like the new commander reminds me a lot of the cows I have worked with.
any who the guy is pretty cute i will have to see how this plays out.
does any one else think Patrick Jane is slowly losing his mind over this Red John case?

That Van Pelt/Rigsby pairing was the worst part of last season.

  • GimplyGump ☺

I think your fee should be 99.9%. Unless i6t happens to be family. Then they get a family discount …. 99.8%!

  • Ryan

Yes but Mike, you wanted Terrence Howard to play Rex Winters so…

    • Erin

And wanted Emily Van Camp for Rebecca on B&S and that just casting just sucked (though I admit it the writing was plenty at fault there too).

      • Keira

Don’t even! Emily VanCamp is a really great actress (I loved Everwood) and she was great in Brothers and Sisters. The writing for her has sucked for the past season (maybe past 1 1/2 seasons) but she’s still great!

Now I think you should suggest that all of his scenes should be shirtless … *I* will pay you myself it that pans out!

  • damianvargas

I miss him on DOOL. I loved Sexy Rexy

    • Elizabeth

I miss Sexy Rexy, but at least he’s managed to get fairly steady work since he was on Days.

Eric Winters is hot but my heart and eyes still shine for Simon Baker ;-) But Eric should be a nice addition.

    • Kirsty

Haha yes definitely. Winters is definitely hot but Simon will always be number one ;-)

  • John

Poor Eric Winter. He has repeatedly been cast a the love interest of a character, only to disappear a few episodes into the arc. This is no way to build a career!

  • Ken

Completely don’t care. The writers choice to have Van Pelt back out of the relationship felt extremely false. The excuse she used was a very tired, sitcom one, and I could care less what the writers do with that character now.

    • Anon

Van Pelt comes off as such a cold fish and even lacks personality standing up, so who cares?

  • robinepowell

Her character’s name is Van Pelt, not Rigsby. ;)

    • Icon

      Rigsby-crushing, not Rigsby.

  • MTK

Ausiello once again doesn’t disappoint…he made it all about him!!! Self-indulgent prick.

  • taksi

I’ve loved this guy ever since he was on the Ex-list. super stoked

  • enami

thumbs up in favor of Eric Winter.

  • Jordan Darnell

When will Eric Winter start on the show?
