Will film role evict Jesse Spencer from 'House'?

Tags: , , News, Scoop

News that Spencer has been cast in the Spike Lee-produced indie The Girl Is In Trouble has fans worried that Chase may be checking out of Princeton Plainsboro. Executive producer Katie Jacobs is here to set the record straight.

“We have not written him out at all,” Jacobs tells me. “We have done everything we can do to [adjust] our schedule to allow him to do this. He’s by no means out of the season or even out of any episodes.”

The New York-set Trouble stars Studio 60‘s Columbus Short as a bartender caught up in a mystery involving a desperate young woman, a missing drug dealer, and the son of New York’s most powerful stockbroker.

Spencer’s House costar Olivia Wilde is also currently off shooting a film, next summer’s sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens, and—as previously reported—she will be MIA this fall. The exact length of her leave of absence, however, remains a mystery. “I can’t [tell you],” says Jacobs, “because it’s linked to a [story] that’s not even on the table just yet.”

Good for Jesse. I’ll go and see this movie in support.

  • Huddy

    Happy for Jesse as well!

  • Amber

Good for Jesse. I’ll see the movie too. He’d be better off in films, with the gazillion cast members House has now. I’m glad Wilde’s off filming a movie too. 13 drives me crazy.

    • bondfool

Why won’t that Huntington’s hurry up and kill her, already?

      • Amber

Seriously. I thought that’s where it was going at the end of last season.

      • Chappel

It’s not going to kill her. Eventually, House will look at a cup of coffee and have an epiphany that what she REALLY has is a disease common in Colombia that only LOOKS like Huntington’s Disease and can be cured with a couple of aspirin and a waffle.

    • bklynny

Olivia will be back, haters. :)

  • Lynn

Great News! Can’t wait to see him in this and I also can’t wait to see him on House again this fall. I hope this is going to be a great season for Chase/Jesse!

    • Nikki

I’m hoping the same Lynn, and I do hope it won’t be the last. From what I have heard/read, it’s not going to be much different from S4 and S5. The difference ist, he’ll be chasing A LOT of girls instead of only one back then. Seems like cheap revenge for Cameron who was using him in the first place, too. I think it’s a bit predictable, and I wouldn’t be too surprised if he ends up with an STD (I always thought Taub deserved it).

Anyway, glad Jesse is still on the show. Chase is a great character, and I always thought he had a sensivity and vulnerability underneath that makes him intriguing and a bit like his mentor. Here’s hoping they’d explore more of him instead of making him just another stupid Casanova on the show. Jesse is a wonderful actor and can do so much better than that.

Amen Amen Amen to all this. Give him proper motivation for the sleeping around and it will be great, but not if it’s just fanservice.

      • charla bendas

I hope they integrate Chase into the stories more so that any ‘sleeping’ around doesn’t resemble Taub–it doesn’t necessarily reflect the character after he’s been so in love with
Cameron and got burned. It appears to more of a reaction than a lifestyle. Hopefully the STD piece will not become part of the storyline. It would be nice for Chase to meet someone else perhaps, and no, not Masters!!!

  • sudsy

Thank god he’s not leaving…its just not house without chase :)

  • Cheery

Happy for Jesse (and all of House’s PYTs–Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Morrison) for snagging film roles. :p

  • Peter

What part does Jesse play in this Spike Lee Joint? None of the characters described in this article sound right for him. My guess is that Jesse has just a very small role and that his work can be accomplished in a brief stint in NYC without disrupting his contribution to “House.” So good for him and good for “House.”

    • Jackie

I don’t know, he could be the one described as the “son of New York’s most powerful stockbroker.” I could see it. I’ll just be happy to see Jesse on both the small AND big screens :)

    • M

I doubt it’s a very small role as you say or else they wouldn’t have to rearrange their schedule to allow him to do it .

  • Donald

What’s up with the lame title for this article?

    • M

I thought the same thing .

  • kanne

Good for Jesse! Maybe he’s the missing drug dealer — that could be fun and unexpected. Here’s hoping we get to see lots of Chase this House season 7.

  • Sandy

I’m so glad he is not leaving! I love him, he is my favorite character.
I will check out his movie as well.

  • dee

I think it’s great for him to do other things. He’s great to watch on T.V. or in the movies. I say good for him and go for it!

  • Cash

Will he leave? God I hope so! Get rid of him, and bring back Jennifer Morrison already. And give that woman a raise while you’re at it, to make up for her humiliating boot last year.

    • MiMi

Why can’t we have at least one post without this crap?

    • petra

Poor Morrison she has like the worst fans ever, they still try to promote her by talking trash about her former House co-stars. I don’t think the House producers want her back because her fans acted to stupid!

    • Corina

House producers don´t want Jennifer Morrison in the show. Period. Live with it and move on. A raise? Don´t make me laugh

    • M

You can write but you can’t read ??
      Read the article again.

  • Leiney

Love Chase — so glad he and JS will be staying around the House!

  • norhu

Chase, House and Cuddy is everything I need to keep watching this show. Jesse is a fantastic actor and I´m glad he got this role

  • Sharona

Not that I doubted it, but this is still good to hear! It’ll be great to see him in something else, too.
