'So You Think You Can Dance' wins night, 'Big Brother' remains strong

Tags: , News

The season seven finale of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance was the top performer on Thursday, winning the night among adults and teens. The competition show earned a 2.4 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and averaged 7.2 million viewers, up 33%  in the demographic and up 29 percent in viewers versus last Thursday. The Dance finale was down 8%, however, in the demo versus last season’s finale on Dec. 16, 2009.

Still, Fox reports that this summer’ cycle of Dance outperformed its fall ’09 average by 8% in total viewers.

Meanwhile, last night’s live eviction show of Big Brother won its time period in viewers and key demographics and out-delivered both last week and last year’s comparable broadcast. BB won its timeslot in viewers (7.93 million) and adults 18-49 (2.6/9) and added an additional 790,000 viewers versus last week.

Compared to the same night last year, Big Brother was up 4% in adults 18-49, 17% in adults 18-34 and added 1 million viewers (from 6.93 million).

Overall, Fox won the night in the key adult demographic but CBS attracted the most viewers with 7.8 million.

If people are watching Big Brother, just goes to prove people are boring voyuers. At least TNT, A&E, USA, and AMC are showing great dramatic series with writing that is better than ever. They deserve to sweep the Emmys but will not.

U wanna bet they will sweep the emmys!

Big Brother isn’t up against any of those great dramatic series you are referring to so for all you know the same people watching BB (such as myself) are watching those great dramatic shows (such as myself).

Sooooooo sick of people being snobs because what they watch is cooler than what the next person watches. It’s tv. Get over it.

I watched BB about 15 miuntes behind, then I watched Burn Notice on my DVR.

Most of those shows are in reruns. It’s summer, dummy.

    • let’s say, A&E’s originals are cop shows, TNT is all about cops and lawyers, USA is pure procedural, and AMC has the slowest shows on television. give me big brother.

Talk about spin! From tvbythenumbers.com: “the finale of So You Think You Can Dance was down. Its 2.4 rating with adults 18-49 was off nearly 30 percent from last year’s finale on Thursday August 6, 2009 which posted a 3.4/11 rating/share among Adults 18-49 in the preliminary numbers.

Down 30% since last summer’s finale! Fans clearly were disappointed by this lame season.

Wrong! It has been the best season ever with bringing back of the all stars. What a great idea that was.

They lost a lot of viewers due to last season…it was horrible. It made it less than worthwhile to come back for a new season.

I liked BB10 when Dan the Catholic schoolteacher won it. But so far this season has been a disaster. Everything has gone wrong. The sabateur twist didn’t work. The houseguests don’t connect with eachother as they did in previous seasons. The return of the sabateur twist still doesn’t work. I mean, what kind of lame stunts does he have to do, such as making silly recordings on TV? When Dan was America’s player, he had to try to get someone nominated and hug a guy. So far sabateur #1 and #2 hasn’t had to do anything out in the open like that. You would think with a recession and a lot of people out of work, BB could’ve found better houseguests.

This was definitely a great season. Shows need to evolve and this was a great evolution bringing back to best which enabled the new dancers to immediately pick up their game and not fall short due to a bad mismatch! BTW, what a huge loss with Alex’s injury. He was amazing! I hope he fully recovers and comes back on the show as a future all star! All and all great season of SYTYCD!!
