HBO has confirmed a report in Variety that its closing a deal with writer Rod Lurie (Commander in Chief) to create a drama that’ll star Kevin Spacey as a charismatic cult leader. Lurie will also direct the project, dubbed The Crux.
The script set off a bidding war over the last few days, with interest from other cable nets including Showtime. HBO put the project on a fast track for development.
Spacey co-starred in HBO’s Emmy-winning film “Recount,” about the 2000 presidential election drama.

YES! That is ALL…
A cult led by Kevin Spacey? Sign me up…
Ditto.
So, Spacey’s kind of given up on feature films already?
Most actors come to realize that their characters can have a broader range in a TV series. Also, check out the newest TV guide to see how much more money they can make from each TV episode vs. a single film.
Several big name movie stars have made the transition to TV and are doing quite well. Television is no longer the “small screen” that it use to be.
Anyone else thinks this would be better as a reality show? I think I would join a cult dedicated to Kevin Spacey.
Kevin Spacey has not “given up” on feature films. He is a stage actor first and foremost, who then made a mark in movies, but ultimately went back to the stage that he loved. He had a contract with a theater in London recently for a long time, which is why he was not making many movies. I for one am excited to see him back in whatever capacity he chooses!!!
You like muscles…?
I won’t watch anything with Kevin Spacey until he comes out of the closet. He is a coward/phoney.
I’ve been a member of the cult of Kevin Spacey ever since his one-two punch of “The Usual Suspects” and “Se7en” in the fall of 1995. Watching this show is a no-brainer.
Love him and MarriageMatchmaker was amazing!
