Showtime's 'The Big C' scores record ratings

Tags: , News, Scoop

The prognosis for Showtime’s The Big C is excellent. I’m hearing last night’s debut of Laura Linney’s cancer dramedy scored the cable net’s best premiere rating in eight years and its best half-hour opener in 12 years. The official Showtime press release is after the jump…

“THE BIG C” DELIVERS SHOWTIME’S HIGHEST RATED ORIGINAL SERIES PREMIERE IN 8 YEARS

Season Six of “WEEDS” Returns With Its Highest Rated Night Ever

The Big C premiere – 1.154 million viewers at 10:30 p.m.

· THE BIG C delivered SHOWTIME’s largest audience in 8 years for an original series debut (Previously: Odyssey 5 on 6/21/02 with 1.155MM)

· At 11:30 p.m.: THE BIG C delivered an additional 429,000. The total night 1.583 million viewers

· The premiere episode was made available for online sampling two weeks ago. To-date, the premiere has garnered over 1.6 million online views.

WEEDS SEASON SIX premiere – 1.262 million viewers at 10 p.m.

· With a total of 1.9 Million viewers last night, the season six premiere of WEEDS delivered the series’ Best Night Ever in viewers

· WEEDS delivered 1.262 million at 10 p.m. (Up 4 percent from the season 5 premiere, 1.217MM)

Even though I had already seen most of the scenes in various promos and trailers for the show, I enjoyed The Big C a lot and am really looking forward to this season. I’d rather see it on with Nurse Jackie and/or United States of Tara though. Weeds blows these days.

Great show, making fun of cancer always cracks me up:)

      • Tom

It doesn’t make fun of cancer. You must be mildly retarded.

News of the ratings for “Weeds” assuages my fears that this year will be the final season. A seventh season looks imminent, thank God. Take that, haters!

  • jmag

I really enjoyed this show. Will be watching everyweek.

  • Weeds really improved and The Big C has potential. Excited to see where both go.

The season opener of Weeds was tremendously better than the last two seasons put together. Things are looking up

Agree completely. I was thinking about skipping this whole season of weeds since the last two were so awful. I actually only watched it because the big c was on afterwards. Glad I did. It was quite good.

  • James

Weeds has been wearing on for several years, but I thought last night’s episode was great.

Happy for Gabby Sidibe (co-star in The Big C). Would love to see her have a good run on this show and stick around in the super-skinny celebrutal world. I like her.

Hi, off topic, can somebody tell me the song that is played during the Dexter promo? Thanks very much.

Lux Aeterna. I think it was from Requiem for a Dream.

It’s called “Dexter Main Title” by Rolfe Kent – check it out on I-Tunes.

Who’d thunk Terminal Cancer could be so damn fun?!

Bring back Dead Like Me and see the ratings you get then, bunch of idiots.

  • David4

Great GREAT show. I really loved it. I wish it was called “The C Word” but whatever.

How I also love the fact it got the highest ratings since Odyssey 5… a show that was canceled shortly after it’s ratings high!

    • Peter

“The Big C” is a better name. It’s a phrase people use. No one calls cancer “the C word”.
