Exclusive: 'NCIS: LA' gives Eric a sidekick!

renee-felice-smithImage Credit: Cliff Lipson/CBSIt sounds like NCIS: LA is getting its very own Chloe O’Brian.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that newcomer Renee Felice Smith is joining the procedural in the recurring role of Nell, an incredibly bright, somewhat quirky, and extremely chatty intelligence analyst who’ll be assisting Eric (Barrett Foa) in the OPS center.

Smith’s biggest role to date was in a project nobody—save for a bunch of agents and a dozen or so network suits—ever saw: Amy Sherman-Palladino’s ill-fated CW pilot The Wyoming Project.

NCIS: LA‘s second season kicks off with a two-hour episode on Sept. 21.

There is only one Chloe O’brian! This girl is cute, but Mary Lynn Rajskub on NCISLA would have been awesome.

    Eric gets a sidekick?? Why??
Want to see a crossover with Abby, Eric and Garcia from Criminal minds all in the same lab. Abby doing the forensics, Garcia the background stuff and Eric the intel.
That would be great. For me at least.

Did you see the Comic Con panel with Paulie Perrette, Barrett and Kirsten Vangness? What a riot! They’d be great together! Paulie and Kirsten were new best friends, it seemed, with a theater vibe, rather than techie.

Would love to see something with them together.

    • sam

      That sounds good to me.,

    • MB

      Right: why?

  • Dominique

So NCIS: LA is already starting to makes some changes in the cast huh. They should’ve kept the team they already had.

    • AuntieMM

Agreed. Was glad to see they got rid of Dom since he didn’t add much to the team. I think they could probably get rid of the psych guy, too. I was hoping we’d get some back story this year on the existing characters this year but instead they add two new ones.

  • Betty

NO!!!!! They don’t need to bring anyone else in – almost too many people now. All that is going to do is take away from the other people.

  • Jersey Jeff

The should work on the scripts, and the poor acting. This show is weak, comaperd to the mothership.

    • Angelo Barovier

Wow. I can’t believe it. I agree with a guy from Jersey (who isn’t Jon Stewart).

  • anotherjoy

That sounds less like Chloe O’Brien and more like Daisy from Bones. :-/

    • Jersey Jeff

      - orclaudia on Warehouse 13, or Jimmey Palmer on NCIS, or Daniel on the Glades, or Astrid on Fringe, or Chloe on Smallvile for gods sake Chloe Obrien is not that original

      • Vinzenz

In my opinion Astrid is very important on Fringe. She is – to some extend – the voice of reason. Plus she has all those cute interactions with Walter. I’d propably still tune in if she would leave. But the show wouldn’t be the same.
Jimmy Palmer is expandable on NCIS. But Claudia not so much. In a way she’s the same thing to Artie as Myka is to Pete. And if they made her a little less childish (meaning letting her talk like a human for once) she’d be a great character!

  • Tucker

Thankfully they didn’t name her Chloe. Between Chloe O’Brien and Chloe Sullivan, there was just a bit too much gabby-techno-Chloe on the air. (Though, I love both characters.)

  • Mandy

“an incredibly bright, somewhat quirky, and extremely chatty intelligence analyst”
Does this not describe Eric? Why would they get an extreme version of what they already have? Why wouldn’t they go in a new direction?

    • Chappel

They needed someone else so there could be nerdish sexual tension in addition to the people who go around beating people up and shooting them sexual tension.

      • Pinky

FUNNY!!! That was so funny… :)

  • 125

Good. I’m glad they are adding someone else. I love the show, but it needs a tad more estrogen. (Of course, if they got rid of Eric altogether, that’d be ok too!)

    • ladyinwaiting

“125″ I agree! This show definitely needed some more estrogen! I can’t wait to see if the new girl can help bring NCIS:LA to the next level.
But I have to disagree about Eric – I think that he is an adorable geek!

    • CC

I totally agree!! Too many men on the show had me bored, I like the cast so I will try it again now that they’ve made some changes and added more estrogen.

    • michelle

Definitely agree…more estrogen on the show is needed. Also congrats to the talented Renee Smith a fellow classmate of PMHS 2003

  • Joni

Does this meant that Barrett Foa is finally going to become a series regular? And what about Brian Dietzen? Is he ever going to be a series regular? And I thought NCIS:Los Angeles was not suppose to be a murder of the week. I thought they were suppose to be undercover most of the time, not just 5 minutes during an episode.

    • Kvivik

      EXACTLY!!!!
That has disappointed me since day 1.

  • jan

GREAT FOR THE SHOW TO HAVE A FEMALE—————-

  • Monika

YES! Renee seems adorable. She will be an absolutely wonderful addition to the show<3

  • Jason

She’s not needed. Too many characters are a bad thing.

  • Big D

Nothing wrong with adding another cute girl. I think Erick Christian Olson will be a good addition too. They could phase out the psych guy though. I don’t thing he brings much to the party. I really enjoy Chloe O’Brian, Chloe Sullivan, Astrid and Claudia, so if that is the mold she is cut from – Yeah!

  • Lyn

Hope the new gal is capable of kicking a$$ the way Daniela Ruah’s character is — really like her! I also hope they don’t divide the fans with another annoying side-melodrama hinting at romance among key characters, a la Tony and Ziva. Who needs it?
