    I’d rather see Mel Gibson step into the role. He played Maverick, another iconic role from James Garner, and did a great job. Plus, Rockford and Maverick are really the same character… but set in 2 different eras. It could work…. Then again, I could be happy with Josh Holloway. He sounds like a good choice.

    OMG!! Please Please Josh!! this would be awesome!! I would definitely watch this remake if josh holloway were in the lead role!!!

    Perfect casting — I like Dermot but not the right fit. Josh Holloway is ideal for Rockford and it would be great to see him back on TV.

    I agree that it should be recast and now it seems there on the right track. One thing that bothers me, i understand its a remake but can he be Rockfords son? I just sayin this because imo there is no one who can replace james garner. But if he had a son…which is possable… Then it would leave the show open to all kinds of posabilities. Just askin’.

    Leave “The Rockford Files” as it is. No rebooting, no new star. James Garner created that private eye role, and it just wouldn’t be the same without him. Rent the original series, if you want to see what delights Rockford had to offer.

    ive heard alot of names mentioned for the role of jim rockford but only one stands out as being able to carry off the humour andaction as a world weary pi that is joe flanigan

    I’m not getting my hopes up. I’ve seen the new Hawaii 5-0 and it’s your generic buddy movie set in Hawaii, nowhere near the quality of the original – right down to the open title which was incredible in the original and completely lame in the remake. Still, who knows? Would be very cool having a lot of cameos from old LOST alumni. That show is so huge they could riff off that for at least seven seasons. Not to mention “Lance White” Tom Sellick who could drop around for a toungue-in-cheek reprise. Loads of potential, but I doubt they can pull it off.
