Breaking: USA Network renews 'Covert Affairs'

covert-affairsImage Credit: Steve Wilkie/USA NetworkI spy a no-brainer: USA Network has renewed its summertime smash Covert Affairs for a second season. Affairs—which stars Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as CIA agents—stands as the No. 1 cable show on Tuesdays and the top new series of the year in adults 18-49. And here’s one reason why.

Great News. Was really hoping they would. Fun show.

  • lisa

Yay! Another season of Christopher Gorham looking amazing.

    • pop

yup. thats exactly why i stopped to watch one day. now i tune in weekly to stare at him.

      • Sammi

Completely agree with you both! Christopher Gorham is definitely the reason I started watching the show I absolutely love him and his character. This is the first thing I’ve ever enjoyed Piper Perabo in and I enjoy the rest of the cast as well. I think the show is great and I’m very excited by this news!

      • kim

there is only one word to describe him…YUM

  • Rolf

The first episode was pretty good, but from there is became lame and unwatchable.

I only saw one episode and it was aweful. And I know this is shallow, but both the mother and son in the story had moles on their faces. It was weird and distracting.

      • Jethro

Love that show, The Mole, are they ever bringing it back!

Seen the ads for next week’s episode yet??

    • Meli

Love love love this show – clever, fun, smart, sassy and cute. And hot guys. What’s not to love?

  • William

I am sure that the reason it is doing well is because every fruitcup is hoping to catch him partially clad…not likely!

    • Steph

OOps- I meant to ask YOU if you’ve seen the ad’s for next week yet…

    • Jenna

The news brief said he was “one reason” for the show’s success not the only one. I’m sure the main reason is that it’s a fun spy drama with great actors. :-)

      • Claudia

I absolutely agree. The cast is exceptionnally good.

  • midge

oh good, i am really enjoying this show. i turned in for chris gorham and stuck around because it is fun to watch!

    • topazbean

The same. He’s an unusually charming actor, but the rest of the cast are all just about rising up to meet his standard, hehe

  • Sam

I love “Covert Affairs”… but is it possible to get someone who isn’t gay to review these shows? It’s getting pretty tiresome for this guy to claim EVERY show’s popularity is driven by hot guys.

    • Tindall

Fun fact: Straight women ALSO like hot guys. If you don’t, that’s fine. Just go watch monster trucks or whatever and let the rest of us have our fun.

      • MrSmith

Ah, but the show has so much to offer, including good acting, fun characters, and a fresh premise – why keep going on and on (and ON) about the appearance of the cast? If I hadn’t seen it and liked it already, I (for one) would have given it a pass just because of the shallow coverage.

BTW – The music choices for this series are amazing.

I first started to watch because 1) I like USA scripted shows and 2) I’ve liked Kari Matchett’s work for years. I keep watching because it’s got a great ensemble cast and the episodes are interesting. I’m delighted it’s been renewed.

    • Lyn

I like her, too (remember her from “24”), but why do they dress her in a cocktail party dress every day as she’s supposedly doing this high-powered job at the CIA???

    • ariettty

I agree that Kari Matchett is the actor that is making me tune back in week after week. She is marvelous. Anne Dude, who is another favorite, is under utilized so far in this series. But I am delighted it has been renewed.

    • Doug-H

I first discovered Kari in Invasion.. a great show that got cut short… her character was so creepy but terrific…. It would have been wonderful to get another season or 2 out of that show

  • jmcg

I’ve been watching since the debut, but I still have serious issues with the dialogue and characters: “is there milk for the mac & cheese?” Annie asks the Turk as she goes into the safehouse in the episode with oded fehr. The fact that the blonde boss lady always wears the blue sleeveless dress; isn’t she supposed to be wearing actual business attire in the CIA–that means no sleeveless or put a blazer/jacket on. And the fact that Annie gets knocked around a lot during the fight scenes that seem to last too long. I might not last much longer.

    • Holliz

I know what you mean about the dress. I thought the same thing. But I still like the show. Yeah and in terms of the fighting she’s no Sydney Bristow.

      • Marie

If you’ve been watching from the beginning, you will know that Piper’s character was plucked from the “farm” before she could finish her training. And when she finished that special assignment given to her (which had something to do with her ex-boyfriend), she was told she was not going back to the farm. So I think that explains why she is no Sydney Bristow.

    • Henry

The show needs new writers and fast. I started watching due to EW’s blurb about how fun it is. It is a tiny bit of fun that I tend to get up and do chores while watching. More sad is I don’t think they really know what they want to do with her ex-boyfriend secret ops guy. He appears. He disappears. Cut to separate shots of them pining away for one another. Bo-ring. No. She is not Sydney Bristow. She could hold Bristow’s holster, but I like Perabo (sp) and Goram. I’ll stick with it. It could get better next season.

      • Henry

And the guy from ‘Heroes’ SUCKS!!!! Is he hiding a perfectly obvious accent or what?

      • jmcg

He didn’t have an accent in the Psych episode either. I don’t think he really has one. I find I like Goram better and better as the show goes on.

      • Cara

She is not susposed to be Sidney Bristow. Annie is a NEWBIE. She had no prior experience. I understand how all you Alias fans miss Sidney but stop trying to look for her in Annie.

      • topazbean

I expect Goram is going to get more and more to do next season. He really shone in this week’s episode – though Perabo is also very watchable and, thank the Lord, Ramamurthy has proved what I always suspected – that he has far more range that the awful direction and dodgy accent would allow in Heroes.

  • jmcg

Another thing that gets on my nerves about Annie is her loud mouth and the exaggerated head swinging/hair throwing.

  • sam

I have enjoyed all of the episodes except the second one. They should cut her family, though. Every scene with sister, kids and husband is dull and painful to watch.

  • Mandy

I could look at that pic of Chris Gorham all day!

  • ggny

The show needs more Anne Dudek

    • Snsetblaze

I’ve got to agree. She’s a good actress (see Big Love and House). I would have liked to see her in a better role.

    • Semaphore

I wish she had Perabo’s part. She’d be more interesting as a spy.

    • Ally

And if not, they need to let her go so she can do something worthy of her talent. I hate seeing her in all of these background roles when she is such a great actress.

    • topazbean

Anne Dudek needs something more interesting to do though. Hopefully she’ll get entangled in the spy stuff at some point and get something a bit more juicy to work with.

  • Big D

Yeah! Really good, fun show + Piper Perabo is smokin’ hot.

  • sara

USA always seems to pick up shows with great characters. I am a sucker for well written characters, it doesn’t matter what the show is about. Covert Affairs’ Augie & Annie keep me coming back for more.
