'HIMYM' Exclusive: Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger claws her way into Robin Sparkles' orbit

nicole-scherzingerImage Credit: Tommaso Boddi/PR Photos; Cliff Lipson/CBSHow I Met Your Mother is about to fill in a major piece of Robin Sparkles’ pop-star backstory.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Pussycat Doll-turned-Dancing With the Stars champ Nicole Scherzinger has been tapped to play Jessica Glitter, Robin’s former BFF and costar of the Canadian talk show that also featured Alan Thicke.

“It’s going to be a satisfying third chapter in the Robin Sparkles trilogy,” says executive producer Craig Thomas. “It’s a prequel to both ‘Let’s Go to the Mall‘ and ‘Sandcastles in the Sand.’”

Adds fellow EP Carter Bays: “It’s the origin story of Robin Sparkles. You see where she came from.”

The Sparkles & Glitter flashback episode, simply titled “Glitter,” is slated to air during November sweeps. (Additional reporting by Vlada Gelman)

I really hate myself for doing this, but… *sigh*…

    First!

Ugh… had to be done though, I suppose.

    • MadameDame

well, no… it HAD not to be done…

    • Jersey Jeff

Don’t hate the first, love the first.

  • Lani

I was hoping it was Alanis Morissette, since that’s who Robin Sparkles is based on. But I guess she’s not available due to pregnancy.

    • JRose38

What gave you that impression? I figured it was a take off on Tiffani and Debbie Gibson with song names like “Let’s Go To The Mall” and “Sandcastles in the Sand”.

    • SteveStrifeX

Both actually could work. “Let’s Go to the Mall” is far more a take on Tiffany; but doing a talk show as a prequel to the Sparkles era could be a take on Alanis Morissette’s early career on “You Can’t Do That on Television”

      In other words… LAWYERED!

      • Casey

But in the slap bet episode we didn’t know she had done a talk show. That was a recent revelation. So back when Robyn Sparkles was first revealed in season 2 she was based on Debbie Gibson or Tiffany.
        ….LAWYERED!

      • jason.

Yeah, but Alanis was our queen of Mall Pop for a while…And I will laugh so hard if it’s a takeoff on You Can’t Do That on TV. Bring on the slime and water!

      • Tv Fan

The Alanis did more pop/dance music when she first became famous in Canada. She only became dark and serious when she came to the US. She was their Tiffany, just like… Robin Sparkles!

      • SteveStrifeX

Haha, I stand corrected Casey. I guess I’ll take the 5 slaps at anytime option over the 10 slaps right in a row, if you’ll let me choose

      • rebecca

I was also hoping it’d be Alanis. And she’s guesting on Weeds this season, so she must not be THAT pregnant, yet. And you are crazy to choose 5 slaps anytime over 10 in a row! After the first few, you wouldn’t even feel them.

As JRose says, Robin Sparkles is a goof on Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. While Alanis was already semi-famous for being a star of You Can’t Do That On Television in the early 90′s timeframe that Robin Sparkles had her one-summer career, she had yet to have any real music career. Or even a cameo in a Kevin Smith movie.

Alanis was briefly a marginally successful teen pop star in Canada. So was Robin Sparkles. Why is the inspiration for the character even in doubt?

  • LA

    LAME stunt casting!

    • Kaci

Personally, I’m really excited. I saw Nicole Scherzinger when she did the Rent stint at the Hollywood Bowl and was totally surprised at how funny she was. She did a great job! Plus, I’d watch anything related to Robin Sparkles. :)

    • Sam

stunt casting is when someone comes on a show only to promote some gig/job they’ve got, so what exactly is Nicole Scher-whatever promoting?

  • BJohnson

Don’t care about the casting, will we get another video????

    • liz

Seriously. I would like to see an E! True Hollywood story of Robin Sparkles. Haha!

      • karen

That would be legen…wait for it…dary!!!!

  • Luminosity

I’ve loved the Robin Sparkles’ flashback episodes.

  • Brody

This show has been disappointing lately, but I’ll watch this episode. I love me some Robin Sparkles!

  • Sarah

HIMYM always has the WORST stunt casting.

    • L

no that would be 30 Rock

  • AMF

To Nicole’s credit…I hear she kicked butt in the recent production of RENT.

  • Alicia

Why does this show trying so hard to make me stop watching it?

  • Becky

    Her? /Arrested Development

    • Lex

      Who? (Couldn’t stop myself)

  • brooke

    nicole will be grate ^___^

    • Sam

      grate?

  • emilyjoyrin

is it sad that i could sing the melodies to both previous Robin Sparkles’ videos as I read this post?

    • Casey

Believe me, you aren’t the only one. I have both songs on my iPod. Lol.

      • Sam

        So do I! :)

  • Matt

Speaking of You Can’t Do That On TV, What?

  • Rachel

So…..if she’s Jessica, where’s Tori? Is her last name Sequin?

  • Rose

Lame. They should have at least gone with a Canadian. :(

    • mohamad

      hi

      • mohamad
