Less than a week after becoming husband and wife, True Blood super couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer made their first public appearance together at the 2010 Entertainment Weekly and Women in Film pre-Emmy soiree last night in West Hollywood. Naturally, the main topic of conversation on the red carpet was… the savage yet inevitable death of Bill’s maker, Lorena. Hot topic No. 2? The real story behind that bloody spectacular knock-down, drag-out fight scene between Sookie and Debbie Pelt.
Nice to see Stephen Moyer with a tan and not so pale.

I think it was the interviewer who wouldn’t let him get a word in edgewise. He kept interrupting him and spoke primarily to Anna. Love them both, Anna and Stephen that is, and I love Stephen’s accent. He is witty and funny and a great interview all by himself. They sure are a great looking couple.

Why is it, that when I hear a Brit that I’m used to hearing speak with an American/Southern accent speak in their native accent, its always a higher pitch? Bill had a deep voice, yet Stephen’s voice is higher pitched and they sound wimpy as heck. Same thing with Hugh Laurie…House has got a deep voice but Hugh sounds like a little sissy. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

Now that you mention it, their natural voices are a bit higher than the ones they affect when doing accents for their roles. I wouldn’t call them wimpy or sissy, but the deeper voices are a bit more badass.
wimpy? sissy? high-pitched? so totally disagree. maybe your confusing it with the fact that the real-life actor is a bright and chirpy newly wed (hence he sounds animated and HAPPY) whilst his character is an undead, brooding, tormented civil war veteran (hence miserable). That I think accounts for the difference in intonation.
I completely agree gattopardo. I actually love to hear Stephen Moyer talk in either voice. It is the funny and intelligent things he has to say that define him.
I actually prefer the British accent on both Hugh and Stephen. Whatevs.
Recky – I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think they sound ‘wimpy’ in their natural voice. I just think they do an American accent in a lower tone. I notice Hugh Jackman and other foreign actors do that too.

Beautifully stated, Rhonda, and I completely agree. Love them both on the show and in real life, at least what I know of them. I will be watching tonight solely to see them on the Emmy show. Hope True Blood wins.
