'Office' scoop: Did Jan give Michael [spoiler]?

officeImage Credit: Byron CohenAt Friday’s 2010 Entertainment Weekly and Women in Film pre-Emmy party, Melora Hardin revealed that when she returns to The Office this season, she won’t just be bringing Jan back, she’ll be bringing the old Jan back. (Yikes! Scary.) Not only that, but there’s a new man in her life. Does the name Jimmy Smits ring any bells? Video below!

“The Office” needs to end. It’s been going downhill since season 5 started and at this point it’s on life support. They had a GREAT run (seasons 2 and 3 are some of the best US produced comedy in the last 25 years), but you can’t stay on top forever and it’s depressing watching it now, knowing that it’s a shell of it’s former self.

    • SilentRage

So this show needs to end because it’s depressing to YOU? Get over yourself Kevin, last season it was still the highest rated nbc show on thursday so until that changes they’ll still crap out new episodes.

    • april

I must say that I agree with Kevin. I’ve felt like I’ve only been watching the past couple of seasons out of obligation since I’ve watched the show from the beginning. It’s definitely felt like it’s living past its prime. Six or 7 sevens is a darn good run for a TV show these days. It may be a little too late for it to “end while it’s still ahead” since it hasn’t been “ahead” for a few years now. Nevertheless, I’m sure I’ll still tune in come September…

You are an idiot. Throw a bunch of actors and crew people and writers out of work just because you people are tired of it? Just don’t watch and get on with your lives!

    • Michael

Here’s an option: Switch the effing channel. I don’t understand why you people whine and complain about shows and then still watch them every friggin week. Don’t watch the damn thing and leave it to those who do still appreciate.

      • DT

If the people who don’t like the show don’t watch it anymore, it’ll go into a ratings slump and end for you anyway, dummy.

      • SilentRage

Really? Why in the world would you watch a show you don’t like? Read a book, go to the bar do something…dummy.

    • JennBell

Well, everyone has their opinion, and mine is that the show is still great! Look forward to it every Thursday night, and watch the syndicated episodes whenever I see them.

    • dusen

Kevin – agree with you totally. Unfortunately as long as NBC can squeeze out more $$$ from it, it will be on, even if it’s past its prime.

I’ll still watch it though – after investing 6 years in it, it’s a hard habit to break, and the occasional flashes of brilliance remind me of the glory days of season 2-3.

    • Salty Dog

It’s the writing. Note that as soon as Michael Schur and, to a lesser extent, Greg Daniels went over to “Parks and Recreation”, “The Office” started going downhill. Meanwhile, “Parks” season 2 was easily as good as the golden years of “The Office” (my opinion, obviously).

The show still has talented actors, but it needs someone of Michael Schur’s caliber to step up and steer the ship in the right direction.

Now that we’re finally free of the Jim/Pam marriage/wedding story that dragged down season 6, I think there’s some hope. If they can find some good writers and get back to the same plots we love (less overarching story, more funny events around the office), I think we could see a return to glory.

An example for me would be “The West Wing”. It was great in season 1 and 2, mediocre in seasons 3-5, and then came back with a vengeance in seasons 6-7. Just needs the right people.

But, all that said, season 6 was the weakest, with season 5 being the second-weakest. Excluding s1 since it’s so short, I rank them (best to worst):

      Season 3
      Season 2
      Season 4
      Season 5
      Season 6

      • kerry

Season 6 didn’t get dragged down by the JAM wedding, it got dragged down by the same things that made season 5 bad: it was less realistic, the characters changed from episode to episode rather than evolving.

  • nikki

This show is just as funny as the day it began!!! I can’t wait for this season!!

    • Dominic

Agreed – it’s still got the goods. And cannot wait for Jan to return – I love/loathe her…

  • Jude10

Been watching reruns back when Jan and Michael first started dating. “I love this WOMAN!” So great. I love Jan. But I agree with Kevin that the show needs to end after this season. It deserves a proper send-off and cheapens Steve Carell’s contribution by trying to just replace him and go on.

    hot

  • Casey

Melora Hardin blew me away in the Dinner Party episode. Glad she’ll be back.

  • lily

    She gave him chlamydia, right?

    • lily

      Did Jan give Michael Chlamydia?

      • Tim

        Watch the video. It’s herpes.

        P.S. Aushole is a douchebag.

  • Nerdista

I still love this show! I’m a little concerned with the cast changes coming up but the writers are still good. I can’t think of another show where I stayed to watch even after the “Jim and Pam” got together. I love the whole cast. And Aus’ is not a douchebag. Come on Tim.

  • tnsmoke

I still howl everytime I watch the Baby Shower episode and Jan sings “Son of a Preacher Man” to baby
Astrid! Yes, last season there were some episodes that weren’t AS funny but still there were more that were fine. Am still buying the season on DVD, it’s always worth the bucks for the deleted scenes and extras! I just hope they soften up Pam this coming season, she got too shrill last season.

    • Ed Trucker

No way. That episode was so awful. When Jan started singing I almost changed the channel.
I still enjoy the show but not looking forward to Jan’s return.

    • Nat

Oh my goodness, that Astrid/Astird mix-up was one of the funniest moments of the series.

  • Runa

Whoo! President Santos on The Office, love it!

  • SaraJean

Groan.. I love this show but I’ve been so content without Jan there. She was just polarizing on screen. Not funny, and I don’t think it was the writing.

  • samara

I stopped watching The Office last October and switched to Fringe. Best decision I ever made.

  • anne

Some things are opinion, some are not. The writing on The Office is not nearly as godd as it used to be – it’s true, not really a matter of opinion. But it’s still a good show. If you don’t like it anymore, stop watching it.

    • midge

nope that is still an opinion. the show has changed. shows are better when they do. in my opinion the office is still hilarious, intelligent and fresh. it IS different so it makes sense that some people won’t like it anymore. also true? some people like it now that didn’t like it before. so all still the land of opinion.

  • anne

    *good [not godd, sorry]

  • KC

Are you kidding me? The Office is one of the best comedy shows ever. I love it!!
