Emmys watched by 13.5 million people

NBC’s telecast of the 62nd Annual Emmys was watched by 13.5 million viewers, the largest audience for any non-sports telecast this year since American Idol season finale on May 26, according to early estimates from NBC.  The show also earned the highest adults 18-49 rating (4.1) for any telecast since the Glee season finale on June 8.

But the show hosted by Jimmy Fallon didn’t necessarily break any records: Though it was the most-watched Emmy telecast in four years, it only ticked up 0.2 percent versus last year in viewers and was largely flat in the key demographic. The show aired live in all time zones from 8-11:01 p.m. ET.

Jimmy Fallon was an amazing host! I was pleasantly surpised by how well he did and how funny he was!

Totally agree! Why wouldn’t they delay it in other time zones? I feel like that would definitely boost up ratings, especially last night with all the immediate buzz from the opening.

      • Heather P

It was on a sunday night. They didn’t need to delay it.

      • mark Ghio

They needed to delay it because in Arizona it was on at 500PM. I totally missed it since it was over by 8.

      • Artie Lange

Wtf is wrong with you. Jimmy Fallon sucks major ass and he was major ass as a host. It was a disastrously unfunny and boring night.

      • Bren

Some of us on the West Coast got to see it twice. As soon as the show ended, my local NBC affiliate ran an encore. Personally, I liked being able to see it live with the rest of the country for change. I always think it’s weird when awards shows actually take place out here, but are shown out here on tape delay.

It may not have broken any records but it was funny enough to (almost) make me forget about the rotating stage and Multi-Reality show hosts of years past. When Jimmy was announced as host I thought he might be the secret son of the NBC pres (turns out it’s actually Tom Selleck) and was benefiting from nepotism, but he really impressed me and kept me laughing.

Artie Lange has no class with his insulting Jimmy Fallon,he was on Jimmy’s show once too and acted like an idiot that was high, got issues

Maybe because on the west coast it aired live at 5 PM. I know they were trying to make it live for everyone but the people on the west coast have lives too and don’t necessarily have time in the late afternoon to dedicate to something so poorly done.

Jimmy Fallon was a great host, but the order of the show was so poorly put together that it made the entire thing anti-climatic.

So push it back to 8 PM, and get new producers.

    • ger

What, move it back to 8 on the west coast so you can whine about “spoilers”?

      • Jalal

I am not one of those idiots who goes on the internet and stumbles upon spoilers and then gets upset. I stay away from my favorite websites a couple of hours before stuff like this.

      • Wilson

        @Jalal
yeah but you are probably the minority in that situation.

    • Booger9

Um, correction, the people on the west coast do not actually have lives. Sorry.

      • Becks

        HA! Good one.

    • Anthony

I live on the west coast and was happy that we got it live at 5 PM. I hate that the Oscars and the Super Bowl are about the only things we get live.

      • Hannah

me too. I am so pissed when they delay time zones. As a west coaster anytime an award show is delayed I find an East Coast feed on the internet or look up winners. Then I don’t have to watch the show on tv at all. I was so thrilled to watch it live. I hate waiting until 8pm when it happened at 5pm. I like having time after the show on Sunday night to finish up a few things for the night and actually go to bed at a decent time. I love not having to stay up until 11pm to watch these shows.

Jimmy Fallon did a great job, I may be alone in this but I wonder why there were no commercials for his Late Night Talk show. wouldn’t that have helped the late night ratings, even a little??

I’m not a big Jimmy Fallon fan, but this show kind of made me rethink that. I LOVE the Emmy’s and he might have been the funniest host ever. I hope he comes back next year. And it should absolutely be at 5, that’s SO much better than 8.

    • Jalal

It doesn’t even have to be 8, pushing back to even 6 or 7 would be much better too.

      • wakeforce

It was shown twice. Stop whining!

  • abby

Jimmy did a fantastic job. His late show started off rather shaky but it’s become my favorite late night show over all the others.

  • Gael

does anyone else get irked by exclamations over ratings? the entire ratings system pisses me off and isnt necessarily accurate. idk why this bugs me so much, but ive studied in in classes and was just wondering if anyone else gets bothered by it.

    • Pete

Totally!!! The ratings system is a joke and the networks should be embarrassed for using it!!

  • Lynne

I’m so happy for Jim Parsons about time.

  • Jeremy DC

I’m not a Jimmy Fallon fan but he did do a good job hosting. I still think his Late Night show sucks though.

    • Anne

I think the reason is that he (and the writers) were very smart and know what his strong points are (sketches/parodies), and the night focused on those while avoiding his weaknesses (namely actually hosting). I mean, I’m a fan of his and watch his show regularly, but even though he’s gotten smoother over time, his interviewing are still sometimes awkward, whereas his sketches and games are fun, and his parodies are the best

  • wysiwyg

I thought the first half of the show was great. When they got into the TV movies category it started lagging.

  • twitter:spaghetticats

I was only watched to se if Conan won. After he didn’t switched to Family Guy

  • Danny

In our area, it aired at 5 live and then again at 8.

  • Becks

Jimmy Fallon killed it! He was awesome!

I stopped watching at mini series and made for tv movies – boring! (but only because I don’t watch miniseries and made for tv movies)

  • Indigo M

Both my satelitte and digital signal went out in the last 30 minutes of the show. :(

  • Kaite

I personally don’t care for Jimmy Fallon. But I do have to say that was an entertaining Emmy’s show. Kudos, Jimmy
