Bristol Palin on 'Dancing with the Stars': 'I've been approached to do a lot of things'

Tags: , News

Looks like those rumors about a possible reality show starring Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston were partly true: The daughter of the former governor of Alaska told EW that she’s been “approached to do a lot of things” but she chose Dancing with the Stars because “it’s right up my alley.”

“It’s something that is family oriented, it’s positive and it’s a good competition,” she said. Palin was announced Monday as one of the 12 new celebrity dancers who will participate in the 11th season of Dancing with the Stars.

As for all those other reality show offers, “nothing was me,” Palin explained. “Nothing fit and this does fit. I don’t want my public life to be out there.” That’s about to change: If there’s any show that invites a ton of press coverage, its Dancing with the Stars.  Though it was her decision to participate, Palin doesn’t seem too thrilled about having to help publicize the new season. “I’ve always hated doing press,” admitted Palin, who appeared visibly frustrated with having to talk to reporters after the live press conference. She then looked over to group of journalists and said, “sorry, everybody.”

She also didn’t want to talk about Johnston.

Palin expects that people will question whether she has time to dance with a toddler at home. ”I’ve been asked that about 1,000 times,” said Palin, who chose to wear an understated top and jeans to the press conference – a stark contrast to the tight dresses worn by fellow Dancing participants Jennifer Grey, Brandy and Audrina Patridge. “It’s like the complete opposite (with this show). I’m going to be able to spend more time with Tripp. I worked an 8 to 5 job in Alaska for the last year, and this isn’t an 8 to 5 job. This will give me more time with my son.”

This will be a very civil comment thread.

Bristol is one hot momma. It’s not her fault that she’s stupid. The stupidity gene comes from her mom’s side.

      • Brett

Her dad’s no Einstein for marrying Sarah, either.

      • Barry

And Obama is a rocket scientist the way our country is going to the dogs?

      • OMGq

I’m not concerned with whether or not she’s stupid, she’s just a MASSIVE hypocrit. She’s on the cover of People magazine talking to the press about how her ex is only interested in the lime light, yet here she is chasing fame just as hard and fast as her mother. Give me a break. If you aren’t interested in doing press honey, get a real job and stay out of it. It’s not like anyone is holding a gun to your head.

      • Bonnie

Barry, I’m confused as to how Obama has anything to do with Bristol being on DWTS. It’s hilarious that Bristol qualifies to be a star. She’s famous for making poor choices…she has just put herself in the same category as Paris Hilton.

      • Alex F

Can’t wait for Bristol’s jiggly parts.

      • Daniel

@barry keep blaming Obama. Country was s**t thx to Buxh. He’s trying to fix it.

    • David

No kidding. I certainly don’t have the stomach to read all the garbage that is sure to follow. But I do hope participating on the show is a positive experience for her.

    • Nathan

Forget Bristol, I think what we all really want is to see Trig do a little dancing, now that would comical!

    • Daniel

Exactly. I will be civil. I predict she will be succussful about halfway through her time on DWTS then withdraw because she’s done all she had to do.

    • Donna

I will forever hate John McCain for elevating this idiotic family to national status and inflicting their stupidity on all of us. They are the dumbest people in the world, and yet we’re forced to see and hear every tweet from these twits! God, MAKE IT STOP!!

      • Truth

        Why are you so hateful?

      • Christine

Donna, it’s not McCain’s fault. The GOP picked her, he said so on Letterman not long after the election. He also admitted that she was probably why he lost. She certainly cost him my vote!

  • sam

It is ridiculous that this girl is included in the cast. She is not a “star” in any sense of the word. She doesn’t like to do publicity? That is all that this is. I wish her well with her child, but she should go home and get a real job.

    • Lois Stinks

No kidding! And even in the few seconds during the interviews last night, she came off as a C-U-Next-Tuseday! Between her and the Situation, DWTS is scraping the bottom of the barrel for participants. Which means that they should cancel the show!

    • Jane

She’s a famewhore just like the baby daddy.

    • PIMB

I will say the surprise is that they asked her, not that she would do it. I wouldn’t criticize her for doing this show. It is not a fake reality show. It is learning to dance and getting paid well. I have nothing negative to say about her choice. The producer’s choice is another issue.

  • marie

wanted to see Jim Belushi, I know he can do ball room dance, and he is funny. Why didn’t U add some tv sitcome comedy to this season like a few of us who watch the show requested…

    • jules

Marie, this the EW website, not the DWTS website. Complain there.

      • BlackIrish4094

Thank you for the rules. She can complain where she likes dumb @ss.

  • marielapenn

i can’t put into words how much i hate this ignorant moron. omg, she’s JUST like her mother! lol. totally explains everything!

    • joblo

      Wow.

    • Barry

So I guess that you don’t like our future Madame President?

      • BlackIrish4094

Only in her twisted dreams. We Americans can be stupid but not THAT stupid to give a moron a chance to have her finger on the button.

      • Billy

At least there’s no chance of Trig ever being president, hahaha can you imagine that image?

    • probably12

Ah,PDS has totally infected you. LOL

  • sharon

This Dancing with the Stars is the best show on T.V.

  • Steve

Get a life Sharon. This show is a joke, star???? Each season the list of charcaters gets to be a bigger joke.

    • Sal

Over 20 million watch the show. Everybody will be watching just to see the daughter of the next President of the USA.

      • sodakhic

So true, Sal. Especially if the next President will be in the audience

  • Brett

“Family oriented” from the unwed teen mom. I can’t hate her; at least not yet. She makes me laugh.

    • LibbyP

I feel the same way. She’s not Kate, at least not yet.

    • sodakhic

Hey this is family oriented in the liberal world

  • Susan Burris

Stars? Really? And people wonder why I hate reality shows. I don’t see Johnny Depp or Will Smith on those rosters. And even if Johnny were on there, I don’t support stupid unwed teenage moms.

    • wakeforce

Okay, we have to go through this every year! Johnny Depp or Will Smith don’t need Dancing with the Stars. They don’t need the money. You will never see A-list stars on this show. If you watched reality tv, you would know that.

      • Kate

Yes, but there’s a difference between Hasslehoff (a star, albeit a faded star) and a politician’s daughter. At least they used to pretend to get people with celebrity cred, now people leave the show more famous than they ever were before they started. That’s kind of the opposite of what I thought the show was about.

      • PIMB

To me the dancers are the stars and so that’s who I am rooting for (Maks) until a contestant wins my heart (Pam).

  • Allison

I wonder what ABC/DWTS would do if the ratings were low until Bristol, Audrina and The Situation got voted off and then shot up. It’s not like you actually have to watch the show to vote. Would they even notice?

    • Sara

These are the three reasons I won’t be watching this season. It’s a shame…I really would’ve liked to have watched Jennifer Grey.

      • SLB

Totally agree. Having sex at 15 was right up her alley too. Look how that turned out.

      • Chiana

Right with you. I’m tempted to look at it to watch Jennifer and yeah, I’m a little curious to see how Florence Henderson does, but I really want to see those reality people ousted before I waste my time on it.

  • Skip182

Ugh, I hope she doesn’t become like Kate…

  • KG

I thought Levi Johnston was right up her alley.

    • jules

      oh snap!

    • BlackIrish4094

Damn, you beat me to it, lol.

  • Anon

I hope she’s first off. She will definitely not get any votes from me. Go Jennifer!

  • Clt

It’s “Dancing with the Baby Mama’s” now? Please.

  • Mark

Alright already. I am sick and tired of all the Bristol bashing. So she made a mistake and got pregnant. Who hasn’t made mistakes in their life? I’m pretty sure every Bristol basher on this comment chain has secrets in their closet or things they would like to change. She is trying to do something positive. Just leave her alone. She may not be a “Star”, but she brings what ABC wants to the competition — publicity and attention.

    • lizzie lou

Thanks, Mark. And, the rest of you: GET A LIFE!

      • BlackIrish4094

It’s a comment board princess, I know it’s hocking but people may have opinions that differ from your own. This girl is not even a reality TV show “star”. Why is she on this show again? Because her mother is famous and she famously got knocked up. we have really lowered the bar for Dancing with the “Stars”.

    • frank

If she wants to do something positive, she should stay home and get a job so she can take care of her child.

      • Menchy

Right, because Dancing with the Stars isn’t a job or anything… oh wait.

    • Bounce

thanks, Mark. @Frank-did you read the article?

    • Bristol Supporter

I think it’s great that she is doing DWTS. Why all the hate? She is a young woman and mother who is doing something fun. She didn’t go after DWTS, they came to her. If you were in her shoes and had the opportunity to make that kind of money you would do it too. I’m just glad that she chose a family show like DWTS rather than embarrass herself on a reality show.

      • OMGq

The issue Bristol Supporter is that she’s a MASSIVE hypocrit. She complains about the press yet she goes on a show that is all about press. She’s just like her mother – complain, complain, complain and then use it when it furthers your agenda. If Bristol doesn’t want her private life to be public maybe she should grow a brain and realize that going on National TV goes directly against having a PRIVATE life. She’s a complete DOLT, just like her mother.

      • tony volleri

Her and her family are embarrassments……..Thank you Sen McCain !!!!

    • Khalipu

      AMEN!!!!!!

    • @mark

And if she hadn’t “made a mistake” would she be invited to this show. You are not tooo bright Mark.

    • Polly

But her mother is a major mouthpiece of a party that loudly and judgmentally condemns such “mistakes.” They vociferously lobby against premarital sex. sex education, or financial support for single mothers. The right is not out there saying we have to support young women who make such “mistakes” – they are behind legislate that sends them in to a spiral of poverty and shame. You don’t get to say it’s unpardonable, punishable and wrong, except for “when it’s my own daughter.”

      • Merry Bear

Say it loud and often. Sex ed prevents hypocrites from getting publicity.

    • Saracen Riggins

      I’m with Mark. 100%.

    • Chiana

Yeah but one of the many differences between us and Bristol is, we don’t deliberately choose to go on a high-profile reality show to expose those skeletons in our closets. If she actually made an effort to create something out of her life and be a good role model for her child, we wouldn’t be so hard on her for all of these indiscretions.

      • Sal

Chiana, Nobody wants you butt on any show. Get real. You would jump at the chance. Who are you kidding.

    • mary

She is a star to start with and this will just be another star added to her crown.

  • Tonic

It seems she has had several things up her alley at a young age…DWTS will only widen that alley. Good for her.

    • Bristol Supporter

      you are disgusting

      • tony volleri

What is disgusting is having to read about these pathetic people EVERY DAY !!!! God, I wish they would go away

      • Tonic

What is disgusting? I’m in full support of her pimping herself out however she wants. I enjoy watching her family’s values.
