NBC picks up sixth season of 'America's Got Talent'

NBC announced today that it has picked up a sixth season of  America’s Got Talent. Celebrity judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel will return to the series, along with host Nick Cannon next summer.

AGT continues to be a ratings sensation and has hit it out of the ballpark creatively this season,” said Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming and Production, NBC and Universal Media Studios, in a statement. “We have a dream team of celebrity judges — Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan – and coupled with our versatile host Nick Cannon, we’re looking forward to an even bigger summer next year.”

This is the fifth consecutive year that Talent has ranked as the No. 1 summer series in total viewers. Season-to-date, the show has averaged 11.8 million viewers on Tuesdays and 11.8 million viewers on Wednesdays.

The two-night fifth season finale will air Tuesday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Sept. 15. The show is from FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell’s SYCO Television.

This is the first season that I’ve watched it and it’s a decent show. I don’t know why Piers has to be such a jerk to Howie, but wtfe. Still, it’s been fairly entertaining and they’ve had some good acts. The pickup for next season seems like a no brainer. The only concern is that now that XFactor in UK is like BGT/AGT in terms of how they audition and the format, it may seem redundant to have AGT and then XFactor. Good thing for NBC that they don’t have both series. I do wonder how that will play out, or if XFactor will have their old format here.

This club is for those of us that don’t discriminate! This is to all my people who don’t care about somebody’s ethnic background, just how they are on the inside.

      You may have a try…““`

Just keep bringing back trash. NBC=Nothing But Crap.

AGT runs way too long and is exhausting. At least Fox commissioned SYTYCD for season 8. Much more fun to watch.

  • nick

Well, DUH!!!! Nick Cannon coming back is a no brainer. If he didn’t all Hec would break loose!! he makes the show!

  • Nice

That’s nice that Mariah Carey’s son gets to keep his hosting gig.

    • Zach

      Ha, I seriously LOLd

  • Dumbfounded

What? Seriously. Nick Cannon is the worst part of the show. Absolute worst.

  • Adwina Lambert

Nick is sooo yummy! Mimi is sooo Lucky! tee-hee!

  • Scot

Nick Cannon is a humorless idiot and makes the show hard to watch.

  • Eve

The show runs too long, especially when shows are repeated. What a waste of air time, plus it exhausting. Nick is great, the judges are okay. You will lose viewers if it continues to get boring and re-runs to previous shows…

I hope Piers does not leave the show if he gets the Larry King talk show slot on CNN. The show wouldn’t be quite the same without him. I can’t believe that’s how I feel now since I couldn’t staned him back on The Celebrity Apprentice but the bloke has grown on me since and I simply adore him. I hope NBC has the sense to find a way to keep him!!

    • Jan

…stand him, not staned him. Oops!

  • Rob J

    Forget NBC…

    Team Coco all the way!

  • jed

where’s the review on last night’s show?

Should be titled, Americas Got Talent from the rejects of American Idol, again, stop putting too many singers through. Narrow singers down to just 3 or 4.

  • Buster Judy

What kind of Cultural Ignoramous is Piers and Sharon to vote the hip hop group over the singer. She as more talent than all the dancers combined. That is as close to “rig” as ever been seen. That lost me as a fan.

  • pancakes

Nick is OK but Jerry Springer was a much better host. No, I take that back. Nick isn’t really OK. He adds nothing of value to the show.
