'Big Bang Theory' exclusive: Evil Wil Wheaton poised to return

big-bang-wil-wheatonImage Credit: Robert Voets/CBSIt looks like Sheldon is climbing back in the ring with his longtime rival, Evil Wil Wheaton.

Big Bang Theory executive producer Bill Prady confirms to me exclusively that he wants to revive the ugly feud this season—possibly in time for November sweeps.

“We started talking about the idea of minor celebrities cutting in line,” Prady says, “and we thought it might be funny to have our [Big Bang] guys waiting in line for a one-time-only midnight screening of something like Raiders of the Lost Ark with restored footage, and Wil Wheaton and his three friends cut the line. When it comes time for our guys to get in, the line stops; Wil took the last four seats and Sheldon is just furious. Because it doesn’t make sense to him. Wil’s celebrity is not applicable here. This is not Star Trek. It’s just wrong.”

Prady says the plot—which is still in the planning stages—was not inspired by that highly publicized June incident in which Jason Bateman was allowed to jump to the front of a massive iPhone 4 line at a Los Angeles-area Apple store. “Someone brought that up, but we were mostly talking about our good friend Adam Savage from Mythbusters,” says Prady. “He was apparently in Las Vegas for a Star Trek auction, and there was a preview and he got to cut the line.”

Big Bang Theory‘s fourth season—its first on Thursday night—kicks off Sept. 23.

I love Big Bang Theory, but I don’t get why Wil Wheaton is a big deal- he was on Star Trek like 15 years ago, who cares??

    • Kate

I actually think that is the point, “evil” Wil Wheaton, a guy only known for his role on Star Trek and so now living such a normal life that he will develop this arch nemesis in this guy he ran into in a comic book store. And with a guy who would have been watching that show and been in awe of the character (who was even only on like one season of the show) because he was around his age and doing what he always dreamed of doing.

      • Hula Hoop

Only known for Star Trek? Are you insane? STAND BY ME!

      • Imzadi

He did more than three season (80 episodes) of Star Trek. Not just one.

      • Kat

He was on Several seasons of the show. Have you ever even watched The Next Generation?

    • liz

I think that’s the whole point. It’s a big deal to THEM (the 4 guys on the show).

    • René De Beaumarchais

I always know Wil “TRAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN” Wheaton as what else? The Stand By Me guy, a movie that I truly overwatched in the 80s.

      • CIP

Me too. I loved that movie…

    • Nila

I’d like to answer your question thusly:

      WHEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTONNNNNNN!!!

      • Terri

        WORD.

    • Terri

Sheldon cares. A LOT. Before he met Wil Wheaton in person, Sheldon harbored a long-term resentment against Wil b/c he was supposed to appear at a Star Trek convention Sheldon attended, with much personal difficulty, to have his Wesley Crusher action figure autographed, but Wil was a no-show to the convention. Having Wil Wheaton be “evil” in the show is genius.

    • housemdfan

It`s because fans hated his Wesley Crusher character, in fact even him hated it…

      • Cara

I remember thinking he was super-cute… but then again I was about 8…

    • Thanir

He was also on the the 3rd season of The Guild, and part time this season. He’s great on that.

      • Jan

I love him on the Guild. People, if you haven’t seen The Guild, check it out.

    • JJ Burk

It’s just hilarious…Sheldon just can’t believe Will isn’t the goodie goodie he portrayed on TNG!

    • TBBT Lover

You say you “love” the show but you know nothing about the characters. If you ever “watched” the show, you’d know that the characters live and breathe shows like Star Trek: TNG. Poser!

    • Victor

Agreed! Get us Patrick Stewart and then i’ll be impressed.

      • Brad

Yeah, a WORTHY adversary for Sheldon.

      • Amber

Holy frack! That would be amazing!

    • moi

Wil Wheaton has turned his real-life geekiness into being really, really famous on the Internet, mostly among the same crowd that hated him when he was Wesley Crusher. He’s turned spending waaay too much time being generally nerdy posting on Fark, Slashdot, and Reddit, and writing books about geek nostalgia into getting acting roles again, in large part because the geeky fan base identifies with his real-life persona.

As a result, the shows he’s on get ratings boosts when he does cameos because so many people who “know” him from various parts of the internet and geek culture are turning in to watch one of their own.

    • Don

The big deal with Wheaton is more than Star Trek. It has more to do with him being a “geek” himself. If you follow the comic world, or anything sci-fi, he has a blog and often reviews movies, films, etc.

  • Stephen

Spielberg and Lucas are very unhappy with you. It is ARK, not ARC….

  • Alison

    That’s awesome!

  • Semaphore

Sounds fun and on a related note the Star Trek franchise rights holders should make a new star trek series with Wheaton playing a grown up Wesley Crusher as captain.

    • Shaun

Thats impossible yo….he went off with The Traveler.Guy is watching planets die and such.

      • TNGAlltheway

Just going to point out that in the laTNG moving (Nemesis). Wesley was totally at Troi and Riker’s wedding in complete Starfleet garb, I was a little suprised because when he went off with The Traveler Guy he did not have any intention of rejoining Starfleet

      • Dolittle

Wheaton posted something about that; how his character originally would have been back and in Starfleet but it was ultimately cut from the movie, leaving the only bit of him left in the release is that few minutes from the wedding.

  • Nicole

I love Wheaton on BBT – I think at this point they’ve gotta have a Wil/Sheldon feud once a season, right? As long as they keep coming up with fresh ideas to make it happen, it must be so.

    • jeannette

      Make it so! :)

  • Penny

It’d be awesome if Felicia Day was with Evil Wil.

    • Laura

      I ♥ this!

    • Dan

      This is necessary.

Heck, I wouldn’t mind if she was a recurring character.

  • Nic.

What if Penny was EWW’s date for the movie? That would be pretty funny–Penny gets in to see a movie she really doesn’t care about and the guys are outside, dying to get in.

    • Mary

Yes! This! And then when they try to quiz Penny on what kind of extra footage was included, she has no idea what they are talking about.

      • orville

I like this idea–especially if he were to throw over someone like Felicia Day (like another poster suggested) or some other geek goddess for a date with Penny.

      • Nic.

Exactly! And this would get Leonard on Team Sheldon against EWW :)

    • Brad

Wouldn’t work. Leonard would see her dating him as a step down from him.

  • Jose

This is awesome news! I didn’t care much for him, but on the Big Bang Theory I can’t get enough of him!

  • Jen Jen

Wil Wheaton is much more than Wesley Crusher these days. I love his character in The Guild and he’s an interesting personality to follow on twitter and on his blog. Plus, I’m a big fan of Stand By Me so when I think of him young I think Gordie Lachance.

    • Howie

Wow, I had no idea that was Wil Wheaton in that movie… you learn something every day

    • Winona

Indeed, Jen Jen – his blog is entertaining and his books are great. Glad to see he’s still acting, too – he’s a very busy man!

    • jeannette

You should read his book…they are wonderful. I was lucky enough to join his old forums when “Dancing Barefoot” came out. Amazing book and good old times!

  • harry

I want it to happen so bad!!!

  • Jay

His 3 friends should be Adam Savage, and Paul & Storm.

    • Nila

Somehow they need to stick Jason Bateman in his entourage, too.

  • Elizabeth

Wil Wheaton has to be in at least one episode every season. Probably my favorite running guest spot in television today!

  • David

I never even heard of Wil Wheaton before TBBT.

    • Imzadi

I guess than you are not a Star Trek Fan.

  • Boof

    BAZINGA!!!!!!

  • Yrto

I want to see Adam Savage on the show…

    • mark bosselman

Wheaton was the bomb in “Toy Soldiers”

      • Gilby21

        THIS.

I was reading through the comments thinking “How could no one mention Toy Soldiers?!” LOVE him in that movie!

      • Joel

Hey, don’t forget he was in the Flubber movie with Robin Williams! Actually, wait, never mind, forget that.
