Exclusive: Ken Jenkins joins 'Cougar Town' family

ken-jenkinsImage Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC; James White/ABCBill Lawrence, aka the mayor of Cougar Town, has said that he wants to start incorporating cast members from his last show, Scrubs, into his current one, and by God, he’s a man of his word: I’ve just learned exclusively that he’s just rehired Ken Jenkins.

The actor formerly known as Dr. Kelso has been tapped to play (and how perfect is this!) the father of Courteney Cox’s Jules. There are no story details yet and no air date, but obviously, it’ll be among the fall episodes. And it’s probably a safe bet that Pops will pass through Town to weigh in on his little girl’s big romance with her neighbor, Grayson (Josh Hopkins).

To me, this is such good news that the only thing that could possibly make it better would be Jenkins’ Homefront missus, Mimi Kennedy (Dharma & Greg), being cast again as his wife. But that’s just me. What are your thoughts? And which Scrubs alum would you like to see Lawrence bring to Town next?

    Donald Faison.

    • Mark

      Second that.

      • J

word! I keep waiting for turk to turn up and dance.

also I want laverne or the janitor on the show.

      • Mikos

        Chocolate Bear!

      • esquirrel

        Soul Brothre no. 5!

      • Mike

You’re not going to see Janitor. He’s working on “The Middle” with Patricia Heaton.

  • Irene

it’s gonna be FUN!! but…in an episode, when she’s on the phone with Grayson but doesn’t want Laurie to know about it, she lies and says to her that she’s talking to the cemetery becaus the wanna move her dad’s casket…….???
Could that be that her parents got divorced and she has like 2 dads?

however, I’d love to see a Dr. Cox/Jordan reunion!!

    • Gabe

I’m pretty sure the casket thing was just a lie lol

      • Chris

duh it was a lie doober thats not what Irene’s getting at. she made comment her dad was dead, but now Kelso will be playing her dad. get it?

  • Beth

I love Kelso!!! Always awesome to see Ken Jenkins. I would also love to see Denise (Eliza Coupe) make an appearance on Cougar Town.

    • Nicole

Second! She is so funny – I’d love to see her on the show. I’d also argue for Dave Franco and Michael Mosely. The three of them were the reasons I kept watching Scrubs in that last season. Dave Franco as Travis’ college roommate, perhaps? :)

      • FLGrl

        Yes please!

    • Slick

When I saw “Dr. Kelso” I weirdly thought of Ashton Kutcher making an appearance on Cougar Town. Would be funny given how he’s an essential half of the primordial cougar-cub relationship (w/ Demi Moore, if you haven’t had a pulse in the last ten years). Too bad, too bad.

  • Mole

    Just awesome.

  • Brock Germain

WooHoo! I wanna see Sarah Chalke! She is comedy gold!

    • K

      AGREE!

    • Jacob

      I third this one.

      • Mikos

        Frick!

      • Mairead

Frick on a stick with a brick!

    • Gary

      She can be Laurie’s sister!

    • katy

Heck yes! This needs to happen now!

    • Joe

Sarah would be awesome as Jules sister Sarah is pure gold.

  • t.t

    Karla

  • Mr. Holloway

I loved when Lawrence brought his “Spin City” people on “Scrubs”, and I love him even more for bringing his “Scrubs” people to “Cougar Town.”

  • Chris

how about Eliza Coupe who played denise mahoney in the last two seasons as busy phillips sister?

    • tigersmurfette

thank you! i forgot her real name. loved denise and drew. that would be awesome!!

  • ncmacasl

He did the same thing on Scrubs, he brought back most of the cast of Spin City at one time or another.

    • ncmacasl

…and I would love to see Sarah Chalke, also Carla & Laverne

      • Sarah

the woman who played Laverne is dead.

      • David

The woman who played Laverne is Aloma Wright and she is most definitely still alive.

      • caressastar

Aloma Wright is recurring on Days of Our Lives…as a nurse…working opposite Jay Kenneth Johnson (recurring Dr. Matthews)!

  • Heather

I don’t know about you, but i would prefer her mother from Friends be her mom on cougar town and pick on her like she did on friends. Can explain why she likes wine so much

  • Kate

I wanna see some Spin City alumni as well like jennifer Esposito since Samantha Who? was cancelled this woman needs more comedy work shes genius! But if its just Scrubs then i want one of th supporting ones like Todd or Doug or Ted!

    • tomm

Jen Esposito can play Manny’s sister, who hates his wife…

  • family Jules!

    awesome news Mike!
tho I disagree with your choice of a mommy Jules!
we need some actrees who is gorgeous as hell to play CC’s mom!
I see a brune Donna Mills!

  • Ferdina Morina

I want to see Zach Braff as Jule’s brother!!!!

    • Sara

I totally agree! That would be perfect!

    • piper

i agree^but also carla, turk, elliot,Dr.cox now that will be perfect!

  • Lorie

    Great casting news!

  • Lark3

I second that Eliza Coupe would be a scream as Laurie’s sister! Great casting call!

How about Janitor as Grayson’s brother or uncle? I miss Janitor…

    • Buffy Freak

Janitor is a little busy on The Middle….

      • Eric

same network though…would make it pretty easy to set it up!

      • Adam Christ

Please dont hate me for this but that show is awful. They should have just made a spin off of Scrubs.
