Exclusive: 'CSI' finally lands Katee Sackhoff

The Battlestar Galactica firebrand and recent 24 alum—who was CSI producers’ first choice to replace Jorja Fox three years ago before a higher power inexplicably nixed her hiring—is joining the cast in a potentially recurring role, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Sackhoff will play Detective Reed, a smart, tough, and feisty investigator with an acknowledged lack of sensitivity. Her first episode is slated to air during November sweeps.

Ironically, Sackhoff’s role sounds an awful lot like the one she didn’t get—spitfire Riley Adams. (Lauren Lee Smith got that part. And then got canned). That’s Hollywood for ya!

Thoughts? Are you happy that the second time proved to be the charm for CSI and Sackhoff? Sound off below!

this show is still on?–I quit watching two seasons ago.

    • AJ

My favorite comment “this show is sitll on?” Stupid response. Regardless of how you (or I) feel about the show, it’s still one of the highest rated shows on TV, so to answer your rhetorical question, “Yes, it’s still on.”

      • RyRyNYC

I dunno what’s weirder… someone taking the time to type something stupid like Dawn when the article clearly proves the show is on, or you typing to complain about her. (However, I get honorable mention for taking the type to point out both comments, lol.)

      • Bob

No, its not on the highest rated anymore, it’s ratings have steadily fallen for the past two years because a) its the same stuff every week and b) its a terrible show. I feel bad for Katie

      • Dawn

I like AJ. You seem like a real crank pot

      • AJ

@Bob – CSI finished the season ranked #17. For scripted shows it ranked #8. For drama shows it ranked #5 or 6 depending on how you categorize Desperate Housewives. So, yes, out of 100 or so shows (plus all the cable shows), it is “one of the highest rated shows”

@Dawn – I believe you mean “Crack pot”

@RyRy – Clearly me, since I’m now responding to your response and doing internet research :-)

        “ass-a nine”?
Did the ‘nine’ secede? And the middle ‘a’ is on the fence with the whole word-unity thing? Viva la revolucion!

    • Kris

yes, American Idol and NCIS are still on as well.

  • Holly C

I love Katee. I think CSI has run it’s course, though. I quit watching when Grissom left. Oh, well… I wish her the best. Miss BSG!

    • Carter

Ever since bringing back Jorja Fox, CSI has regained some worth with me. I just wish Fishburne would leave.

      • Katie

yeah i hope he leaves…..hes getting on my nerves now!!

  • Brent

Hope her character is better than the one she had on ’24′ and her acting is better…otherwise a lot of people are not going to be watching ‘CSI’ with her on it.

    • Stacy

I couldn’t agree with you more! I absolutely hated her acting in 24!

      • Lyn

Agree with you guys, but suspected that crummy writing was a big part of her problem. A friend kept insisting to me, “She was really good in Battlestar Galactica!”

      • Margie

She WAS exceptionally good in Battlestar. I’m excited to see her in CSI, especially in another hardnosed part.

    • Ffke

I think her character in 24 was really funny :P

    • Olive

      Dana sucks! Starbuck rules!

  • Ugh

God, can’t CSI create female characters without the cliches of ‘smart and sassy’..so lame!

    • Jenn

No one in Hollywood can create female characters that aren’t cliched and stereotype. It’s the one of the most poorly developed aspects of the industry.

      • Dylan

Agreed. Although I prefer “smart and sassy” to the alternatives Hollywood usually offers.

  • Dominique

Uhmmm not happy about this. With this being Marg’s last season, they’ll prolly update Katee to regular next season, and then it will be the Laurence&Katee show and it’ll be like Nick and Greg do’t even excist anymore. The only thing that can save this show is to reduce Langton’s airtime, stop adding useless characters and stop firing people.

    • CiCi217

Agree. The best shows last season were the ones with limited Fishburn time. Strange to say that, but he just does not add much to the show.

  • Connie

Great… I like her, and hopefully her character will be a love interest for Nick. Everybody on this show has had one except poor ole Nick, and the hunk deserves one.

    • DebS

I was thinking that very thing. And not at all happy about it.

  • Jesse

I might have to actually give CSI a shot now. Errr . . .

  • Shane Saunders

This kind-of sort-of makes up for casting Justin Bieber.

    • Bree

Nothing can make up for that!

      • Shane Saunders

        Well, I said kind-of sort-of. Not completely. ;)

    • Kristoffer

I will probably give the show another go once she starts – or even sooner if I knew they were going to kill Justin Bieber on the show.

  • Jennie

I hope she ends up as a love interest for Greg, because he needs more screentime.

  • Andrew

Best news of the day! I’ve been waiting for Katee to land a new TV show and I’m glad it’s one that I love. Contests Katee!

  • Lyndon

Not a fan of Katee’s. Hated her on 24.

    • davey

Try watching BSG and then tell us if you’re still not a fan :)

      • fifty8th

Watched her on Battlestar, 24 and Bionic Woman, still not a fan.

      • kellybelly

Katee was great on BSG. She was great on Bionic Woman. But that show stunk, and was only good when she was briefly on it. 24…ha, ha, I had no idea until now that she was on that. I stopped watching that show ages ago. But from all that I’ve heard, she wasn’t good on that. Well, everyone has their ‘eh’ period. Tricia Helfer was good on BSG, but just okay on Burn Notice.

  • Brian K

I tried to watch CSI after Grissom left but it just seemed to lack something.

    • Ffke

      that thing is Grissom :P

      • neetsie

        and Warrick Brown.

      • USAmerica1st

LOL, the Fishburne haters. Grissom is always waiting in the wings. WIllie Pete wanted ‘producer cred’ and time off and Fishburne has carried the ball thru two years and counting. People come and go and the show goes on, regardless. L&O did that for 19 years.

  • Cate

Super excited to see Katee in another high profile show! I’ll always be a fan of hers.

  • CrazyCris

damn! this means I’m going to have to watch CSI… I’ve been ignoring that show (and it’s endless spinoffs) for years now, but if they’ve got Starbuck… damn them!

  • wooster182

I hope the best for her. I was hoping she’d start out in her own show this fall, but I’m happy for her all the same. Love Katee!
