Anybody think John Hamm would make a good Roland. The guy is pretty awesome in mad men.

    • Kyle

Maybe, if they roughed him up some, that’s not a bad idea.

      • Rishabh

        Somehow I don’t picture Hamm as a cowboy-ish hero.

  • Steve C

Can’t wait, I’ve always been a fan of Mr King’s work always contains powerful descriptive pictures but I feel the dark tower seires stands alone as a hark back to the wordsmiths of legend and in my humble opinion the 7 books can be matched only by Tolken himself. My only concern is that the true spirit of Roland and his quest may not transport into film. Having said this I’m waiting with baited breath. I believe “song for” will be butcheted

  • Lupe

Wow. I hope this turns out well.
I always thought Viggo Mortensen would be good for the role of Roland.

  • Steve Degnim

I think Hugh Laurie or Thomas Haden Church would be a choice for Roland. Maybe the Matthew Lillard from Scream could play Eddie

I lucked out. When I started reading the Dark Tower Series, he had already published all of them. So I didn’t have to wait long periods of time before the next book in the series came out. I’ve read the entire series 3 times, and I’m sure I’ll read them again at some point. I hope NBC can do this project justice. Would have LOVED to have seen this on HBO though. Some of those scenes on NBC will be heavily censored. The scene when Eddie is stark naked shooting the mobsters with Roland? If he’s clothed, it’ll cheapen it somehow, because Roland respected the fact that Eddie was able to do that and not have any clothes on.

  • hellhammer

    Josh Holloway = ROLAND

    • KevintheBird

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NO no no no no no no no no. Thank God we’re not all casting this. He’s 42. Eddie’s literally half that age.

  • Lizzie

*falls over* OMFG!!!! SERIOUSLY??????????? Well, now I have to live for the next few years just to be able to watch this…lol! Everyone needs goals!

I think it is obvious that Jon Hamm (Madmen) should play Roland. As for Jake, I think Bobby Coleman (Kid brother from the Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear movie) would be a good choice. All in all there are a lot of young 20 something actors who could tackle Eddie Dean pretty well. How about the kid from The Pacific who played Eugene Sledge?

    • KevintheBird

How is John Hamm remotely obvious? Seriously. Why don’t you go stage a version staring Jon Hamm as Roland, Betty White as Roland’s mother and Bruce Campbell in the rest of the roles? Lame.

  • B

Christian Bale as Roland. Think of him in Batman…merciless, dark, but good. Viggo would do awesome too. Channing Tatum as Eddie would be ideal. Also Emile Hirach (Into the Wild) woiuld be a great Eddie. What about Walter though?!?! That’s tough.

I can not even begin to dip my toes into the imaginary casting pool of The Dark Tower… Truth be told the idea of this whole endevor (Movies/tv series) scares me! I can not count the # of times that I have read these books and so when I begin to even TRY to wrap my head around bring to life this EPIC adventure to life, I can not see it being done in a way that could come CLOSE to doing it any justice! (*spoilers!!) How do you bring Andy to life with out making him look like the freaking tin man? Or make Oy, a character that I can SEE in my own minds eye, look realistic enough to believe in? Will they show Susanna’s rescue of Jake from the Sucubus and the creation of Mordred?? will we get to see the other “when” as they pass through the city that was ravaged by the “Captain Tripps”? The books are incredibly detailed and stretch so far beyond the 7 books… how will those who have never read the books get the same joy excitement that I always got seeing a whole different story spill into this one? Father Callahan jumping out of the “When” of Salem’s Lot. But it seems that the powers that be are going to try to make it happen and I hope that they read the books passionately and the pick our dear Mr. King’s brain as much and as often as possible… he said in a recent interview that when he wrote Susanna he always thought of Angela Basset and I thought: “what a trip that’s who I always saw in my head.” I do have a casting suggestion for a character from book 7… Perhaps Stephen King would consider the role of Stephen King??

You hit the nail on the head on this post. So many characters from other novels and short stories are a part of this epic tale, as well as The Stand and The Talisman books. Aside from some of the illustrations, I had my own “mind’s eye” view of Oy, Blaine, Odetta, Roland, Jake, etc. Years go by and new actors come and go but those original visions stay in my “mind’s eye” each time I read and re-read the novels. I do hope King appears somewhere in the shows, movies, etc, as he has done in the past.

  • Jessica

I am really stoked about this!! I think Viggo Mortenson for Roland and Johnny Depp for Eddie

  • Beautiful Mind

Kimberly Elise MUST play Susannah Dean/Detta/Odetta Holmes!
