Fall 2010 ratings: 'Hellcats' and 'America's Next Top Model' debut to mixed results

CW unveiled a new season of America’s Next Top Model and its fresh drama Hellcats on Wednesday, but to mixed results: The reality show was down 13% among adults 18-49 versus last year’s premiere and was the show’s lowest-rated season opener ever. It averaged nearly 2.9 million viewers during the 8 p.m. time slot, which was dominated by CBS’ Big Brother among viewers and adults 18-49.

As for Hellcats, which averaged nearly 3 million viewers, the cheerleading show won its time slot among female teens and was up 100% from the Beautiful Life premiere on 9/16/2009 among adults 18-49. But it was down 8% from last fall’s Melrose Place rollout and down 43% from The Vampire Diaries debut in the same demo. Still, this show is marketed for young viewers so CW should be cautiously optimistic about the drama’s start.

Overall, Fox won the night among adults 18-49, thanks to another strong performance by Masterchef while NBC, buoyed by the final episodes of America’s Got Talent, won the night in viewers (8.36 million).

I HATE Big Brother and all the reality shows like it. Give me the NFL and good scripted TV like the summer shows on non-premium cable.

      What’s Hellcats and ANTM?

      • Jessica

        LOL.

  • RyRyNYC

I had only found out new cycle of ANTM was starting last night bc of a FaceBook status…lol… good thing I “liked” ANTM.

    • nat

Yeah, I had no idea ANTM was on. I guess I’ll just catch a repreat.

Hellcats is like Glee with Cheerleading. I can see why young girls would like it. Not for this guy! haha, not even all the hot girls in skimpy clothing will make me keep watching.

  • Bibi

The worst thing to happen to ANTM is ALT. Horrid man.

  • Exalay

totally caught ANTM by accident, too

I was routing for Hellcats, but it really was an awful show! It was over the top and quite frankly really stupid. I feel badly for the CW, but they should just sell it to the Disney Channel. That is more the audience for that show.

This is what happens when you hire Disney actors… I couldn’t shake the image of Ashley Tisdale in the horrible HSM or the other girl from Phil of the Future. I think ABC Family would suit this show fine. Not The CW.

Hellcats was the most accurate portrayal of cheerleading we’ve ever seen by “Hollywood”! They showed the strength, commitment (3 hour practices are real), and effort it takes to be good. Even the skills (tumble – fulls & front thrus; stunts – cupies & scorp double downs; pyrmids – 2 1/2 high waterfalls; and tosses – tuck baskets)were accurate for the college level. My daughter (level 4 all-star cheerleader) and I were very impressed.

Hellcats was so annoying! They played an overheard song every five seconds and the dialogue and plot was so predictable and lame. Don’t waste your time with it.

  • Kell

Hellcats was a good show.Keep watching its worth it

  • Simon

No one watches the first ANTM show. You can find out who the finalists are from the CW website. Tell me the ratings from now on – let the competition begin – go Rhianna!
