'Law & Order: SVU' scoop: 'Bar' girl Melissa Sagemiller is new ADA

melissa-sagemillerImage Credit: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images; Janet Mayer/PR PhotosPaula Patton’s recurring gig as Law & Order: SVU‘s new assistant district attorney has turned into a mission: impossible.

The Precious costar—who was tapped to play “charming and savvy” ADA Mikka Von—recently landed the female lead in M:I–4. As a result, her SVU stint has been cut down to just one episode.

That’s good news for Melissa Sagemiller. The actress—who cut her teeth in the legal profession on TNT’s short-lived drama Raising the Bar—has been brought in to fill the ADA void.

Specifics on her character have not been made available, but she’s slated to first appear in November.

Has anyone been keeping track of the ADAs? Seems like every few months there is a new one.

  • Ava

She annoyed me on Raising the Bar I hope this doesn’t become another Michaela McManus, why not try a male ADA?

    • Kris

I flove Michaela McManus, it was really the writers that ruined her character, it’s almost as if if they wanted people to hate her. I agree though, I HATED Michelle on Raising the Bar. Season 2 really made me question whether Melissa is really capable of being likable since she was terrible even in scenes where she was suppose to be sympathetic.

      • Robin

ITA with you about Michelle on Raising the Bar. I disliked her character so much, even when she was doing nice things. And it made me question whether Melissa can ever be likable, too.

    • Kristen

Male, NOT pretty and blonde. Seriously, since Alex had to go into witness protection they have been using and abusing ADAs. They need to get Jack down there to figure out why his people are being so sorely used!!!

      • Sam

Alex came back from witness, she’s doing some temporary international law b/c if that episode about that black woman who came from Africa who had been raped

    • Don

I guess they feel that a male can’t bring the same passion and sympathy that I female can. The idea is a woman getting justice for other women (and children) who have been abused. I think it’s a power thing. A male would have the same impact (at least in their minds).

Every one of the female ADA’s have always been dressed in inappropriately tight Lana Turner-like sweaters or tops that you wouldn’t find in any police dept. or courthouse in the us. It’s just salacious pandering of women on TV for men….nothing new. Let’s see a male ADA wearing skin tight pants/shirts with lots of cleavage showing and see how the ratings go.

Why not a Black female ADA? L&O (all 3 of them) seem to think that only white woman can play the role. The oroginal had a Black male, so why not a Black female?

      • Lisa

        Paula Patton is black.

      • My Lawyer is Black

Regina Hall (Brenda Meeks from Scary Movie 1-4) will be the Deputy District Attorney on Law and Order LA.

      • Brett

The last ADA on L&O was not white.

    • Jennie

Ava: I never thought about them bringing a male ADA and that sounds like a really good idea. Changing it up would work!

  • Stevie

This is slightly amusing… SVU can’t hold on to an actress to play their ADA…. I guess they can’t go with a male ADA because Mariska is the only other female?

    • bere sanchezzy

Actually I never really thought about it that way. Nevertheless, when that random male ADA (Blake, was it?) who came into SVU for a few episodes was a nice change. I wouldn’t mind a guy!

  • ecofunca

I was going to say, “Yet another missed opportunity to bring Smarch back,” but, at this point, I’d rather not see her in that sinking ship.

  • Pavel Kurecka

I wish Ms. Sagemiller well. But I still miss Diane Lane as Casey Novak.

    • Sarah

I think you mean Diane Neal :)

      • Dan

He was testing you with an anagram.

I really liked Sharon Stone in the role late last season. I thought she did a great job and added tension. Plus, it was a bonus for her career.

    • Jeffrey

I actually liked her and Sonya Paxton. I love seeing/hearing the tension between Sonya and Elliot. Sure it was a gimmick but I love seeing the ADAs be a bit more aggressive.

      • bere sanchezzy

Sonya got on my nerves, but that’s probably because anyone Elliot doesn’t like I don’t like LOL. It was great tension between them though haha!

    • Ava

I agree fully, I thought Sharon Stone brought a nice change of pace and depth to the ADA.

  • Tania

No, please no. I’ll be looking at her teeth all the time. Ugh!

  • skyla

Yes bring back Sharon Stone or Alex Cabot.

  • Will

Another thin young white woman. What are the odds?

  • debbie

    Bring back ada cabot

  • KeiraNY

Bring back Alex Cabot, please! She’s the best ADA SVU’s ever had. The others just don’t compare. I grew to like (not love) Casey, Sharon Stone was eh and Michaela McManus was THE worst actress EVER on that show! Good riddance!

  • mindofacynicsdream

    No, Dammit NO!
I was looking forward to seeing Ms. Patton. *sighs* I guess.

  • shan

I am not gonna like the new ADA, sorry, dont think she will cut it. the only good ones they had were Diane Neal and Stephanie March and it was great they brought Stephanie back. I know they disbarred Kasi Novak but they should let her get her license back and bring her back, its about chemistry with Christopher and Mariska and Ice T and both those ladies had it.
