'Memphis Beat' picked up for second season on TNT

Tags: , , , News

TNT has picked up a second season of Memphis Beat, its new drama starring Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) and Alfre Woodard (Three Rivers).  The cable network ordered an additional 10 episodes that will air in 2011.

The drama premiered June 22 and averaged 4.7 million viewers. It wrapped its first season as one of ad-supported cable’s Top 5 new series of the summer and the No. 1 Tuesday series among adults 25-54. Lee plays Dwight Hendricks, a quirky police detective in Memphis. Woodard plays his boss Lt. Tanya Rice.

Memphis Beat is a real treasure - a slightly off-center crime drama with great actors, memorable characters and a soundtrack steeped in Memphis sounds,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies, in a statement.  “We look forward to another fantastic season next year.”

Memphis Beat is TNT’s fifth summer series to be renewed this year.  TNT previously announced renewals for The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles, Leverage and HawthoRNe.

Great news! It’s a bit laid back and moves at a slower pace, but that’s partly why I like MB.

  • Barbara

Great! I really enjoy this show. It and The Glades are two cable shows I really look forward to.

  • Michelle

Love Jason Lee. Living in Memphis love to see some landmarks but was hoping this show was more serious. Kind of surprised it’s getting renewed. I should give it a second chance I guess!

  • Terry D

I live around memphis and have for years. It’s good to something funny and enjoyable on tv about it.

I am having ‘Memphis Beat’ withdrawal.
Please think about showing more ..Beat..
    and less..supernatural..

As much as this family likes Angel, a little more ‘Beat’ would break up the boredom .

Even Numbers could stand a little more
    ‘Beat’.

I hope that you’re not as disappointed as I was when I found out that he doesn’t do the singing.

  • Eileen

YEAH!!! I love the show. I am so excited it is coming back but why do we have to wait so long?

  • Sam

Glad that TNT has decided to renew Memphis Beat. This show has turned out to be one of last season’s most pleasant surprises. I’ve recommended the show to quite a few of my friends, and now they’ve become fans as well. Hopefully the word will get out on this show and the ratings will pick up during season two.

Can’t believe the talent “hidden” in Jason Lee…from what I saw of Earl. Very pleasant surprise. Love Memphis Beat. Can’t wait for its return. Kudos to TNT for good taste.

Just the music alone is worth watching MB. There is good synergy between characters, too.
