'The Apprentice' logs its lowest-rated telecast ever

This won’t go over well with The Donald: Despite airing against repeats on CBS, ABC, and Fox, the return of The Apprentice on Thursday logged its lowest-rated telecast ever among adults 18-49 (1.5 rating/5 share) and only averaged 4.7 million viewers, according to fast national results from Nielsen. The show dropped 53 percent from its Celebrity edition last spring in the key demographic and 63 percent from its last non-celebrity premiere on Jan. 1, 2007. It was also down 29 percent from its previous all-time franchise low in the fall 2005.

Last night’s premiere was also down 44 percent from the Thursday debut of The Jay Leno Show on Sept. 17, 2009.

NBC attempted to take the glass half-full approach when looking at the reality show’s performance. It did rank No. 2 in the time slot among men 18-34, 18-49  and 25-54 and grew 14 percent from its first half-hour to its fourth among adults 18-49. It also was the No. 2 ranked show among adults 18-34 and women 18-34 in the second hour.

Overall, CBS won the night in viewers (7.94 million), followed by ABC (5.75 million), NBC (4.28 million), and Fox (2.44 million). On the CW, meanwhile, the second week of Nikita built on its lead-in from The Vampire Diaries in viewers (3.35 million versus 3.04 million).

how is vampire diaries not doing BETTER than it did last season the show is such a gem
I hate the new slew of vampire movies/shows (twilight/true blood, etc) and was never gonna watch this show but i was over at a friends house for the series premiere last year and saw it and omg its more along the genius of buffy than it is the idiocy of twilight or the pervertedness of true blood

Are you freaking kidding me? You mean to tell me people prefer that Celebrity Apprentice crap from the last 2 seasons? I was glad to see the original format come back and thought the 2 hours was really entertaining.

    • Marci

I agree. I think it was the Celebrity Apprentice format that killed the image of this show. i was happy to see regular people last night, like it used to be. I don’t think it needs to be 2 hours, was that only for the opener?

      • the season before they started with the celebrity stuff was the lowest rated before this one. they only brought back the original brand of the apprentice DUE TO the success of the celebrity seasons.

    • TJ

In all honestly, the regular edition had lost all credibility anyways because the winners were little more than spokespeople who went back and got real jobs once their turn was up. I watch the celebrity edition because it makes no pretense that any of this should be taken seriously.

Good! Get rid of this crap (and all other “reality” shows) for good.

    • hell yeah! let’s bring more scripted shows like hank, the forgotten, mercy, and sons of tucson! because crappy scripted shows are inherently better than reality tv! i love TV snobs…

      • Limp Bizkit 4 LIFE

but suns of tucson was really good and the apprentice season 500 or whatever is a cash grab for dumb people like you to watch…

I didnt even realize there was going to be a new season of “the apprentice” until I caught it flicking the channel. NBC didnt advertise this well like it did the celebrity apprentice. The episode was good. 4.7 million viewers, thats like “american idol” ratings for NBC.

The girls lost not because definitive assignments were not given but for how the room was furnished and the “designer” and her co-hort did a terrible job of choosing the furniture. Should have asked for some guidance from the furniture sales people.

    You’re fired.

I won’t watch again until that big mouth is off. Can’t stand her

    • CD

That would definitely not be an injustice.

Most of the women were just plain dirty. I watched the last hour of it, I wont be watching anymore of it. I was quite happy to catch it on, but by the end of the show I must say I wont ever watch the apprentice again.

I love the Apprentice!! I never miss an episode. I don’t like the celebrity Apprectice but I will watch it.

  • Me

Since they moved it to 9pm (central), we just don’t remember it’s on anymore. Changing things around only makes us give up on trying to find even our “favorite” shows.

  • sid

after giving the last one to Joan Rivers they lost any crediability they had. Everyone I knew who watched said they were done and it looks like a lot more did the same

  • Mike

This season was actually much better then I thought it would be. I didn’t watch the show live (usually just on Hulu or NBC.com) however I was glad to see the show return to it’s roots of quality, educated, busniess minded people pursuing their dreams and trying to achieve success. The celebrity thing was just plain stupid. And choosing candidates who had been hit hard by the economy was a good idea. The show needs to stay real and relevant with normal people. Tired of all the reality shows becoming just another avenue for D-list celebrities to earn a paycheck and increase their google searches.
