Callie Thorne has landed the lead role in the hourlong USA pilot Necessary Roughness, sources confirm to me semi-exclusively.
The potential series—which is inspired by a true story—centers on a female shrink (Thorne) who becomes the therapist for a professional football team. After succeeding beyond expectations, she is sought after by other athletes, musicians, politicians, and those living in the spotlight who all want her unique brand of tough-love therapy.
Miami Medical‘s Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro penned the script. Thorne’s hiring lifts the cast contingency on the project.
Rescue Me recently wrapped production on its seventh and final season; it’s slated to air next summer.
Thoughts?

I thought that Rescue Me had actually finished shooting the final season even though not airing yet?
Yeah, they filmed all 20 episodes in a row. They wrapped in spring, I think.
This is exciting. She’s consistently the best thing about Rescue Me, so I’m sure she’ll kick butt. I’m not a big fan of USA shows (I think they’re all the same and case-of-the-weeks are boring), but I may try to watch just for her.
Awww, I was hoping for a spinoff of the movie. Although, it is a USA show so I’ll probably be watching.
I guess they liked her in her guest spot on “Royal Pains.” Callie Thorne’s “Sheila” is one of my favorite characters ever. Also, Callie is super freaking hot. I will watch her new show.
Agree 100%
I love Sheila on Rescue Me.
I can’t wait to see her on another show full time.
Amen to Callie’s hotness!
Loved her ever since Homicide. Sounds like a great premise for her. If it’s well written, she’ll do really well in the role.
Clearly the USA network love her. She was on an episode of Burn Notice as well as White Collar (along with a few other guest stars who have appeared on both show).
she was also on an episode of Royal Pains last season.
Is Scott Bakula going to be in this?
This sounds awful.
Finally, an original show that will have one of the best actresses for the lead. I am very intrigued to see how she will play the role and look forward to this very much.
Seeing as how USA hasn’t gone wrong with a series in years and I’m a psychology major, this sounds super cool to me!
